Volume 1 Chapter 3 Part 6
「You say that, but I don’t think that there is going to be much merit in me joining the factory Alliance. 」
Theo made a worried face.
「On the contrary, I think that there is going to be much merit in that! 」
Siluca said with a tightened voice, and she involuntarily found herself leaning forward towards Theo.
「I will leave it to you then. 」
Theo said with a smile. It was a carefree expression that did not make Siluca feel like he was wary of her at all.
「I’m going to feel troubled if you decide to leave everything to me like that. 」
Siluca sat back in her chair and cleared up her throat.
「Which is why from this point onward, my every decision is going to be consulted with you first, Lord Theo. 」
「I am happy that you want it to be like that, but I don’t know if I am going to be a good adviser for you. 」
「It is not as difficult as you think it is. All you need to do is to share your honest opinions with me. That is going to be enough. 」
「Okay. If that is all that it takes, then I will gladly do it. 」
Theo nodded agreeably.
「Well then, now that we have reached an agreement on that, allow me to excuse myself. 」
Siluca said so and stood up from the chair. It took great courage of her to come visit Theo tonight, but overall she was glad that she did it. Siluca then tried to leave the room…
… But the moment she reached out to open the door, she suddenly heard the sound of someone knocking on them from the other side, which left Siluca feeling startled.
「Lord Theo, Lady Siluca. 」
It was Irvine’s voice.
Of course he would know where Siluca was. But for some reason, Siluca felt embarrassed, as if she was caught doing something that she should not have been doing.
「What is it? 」
Siluca stepped aside and Theo opened the door. Irvine bowed to them and then made his report.
「There seemed to have been an accident at the blacksmith’s workshop in the castle town, as a result of which the master of the workshop suffered from severe burns. At this rate, there is a danger of him losing his life because of the damage that he suffered, so one of his apprentices has made an appeal for him to be treated immediately. 」
「Something like that happened to the blacksmith’s workshop master? 」
Theo’s complexion changed and he looked back at Siluca, who nodded at him without saying anything.
「In that case, I am going as well. The reason why the blacksmith was working so late into the night in the first place is because I asked him to repair my armor, which has been damaged in the last battle, so I feel partially responsible for what happened. 」
* * *
And so, Siluca and Theo hurried to the blacksmith’s workshop in the castle town as fast as they could.
The master and his three apprentices worked at their blacksmith shop, and lately they have been busy manufacturing and repairing weapons way into the nightly hours. Today was exactly one of such days.
The workshop’s master was working on fixing Theo’s armor for him, when suddenly the charcoal fire exploded when the master was unfortunately standing too close to it. Three people were injured as a result of the fiery explosion: two of the master’s cousins who only got off with burned hands and arms, and the master himself who suffered a severe burn injury to him back.
「Blasted Chaos! Blasted fucking Chaos! 」
The master’s repeated cursing could be heard a good distance away from the workshop, which was a good thing, because it indicated that despite his injury his consciousness still seemed to be intact. And if his curses were any indication, then the charcoal fire must have caused non-spontaneous combustion due to the heightened concentration of Chaos which then exploded.
「Do try to calm down, please. 」
Siluca called out to the master in an attempt to calm him down, even if only for a little bit.
The master of the workshop has been laid down shirtless, with his face facing the floor and his back exposed to the air.
(This is terrible…)
Siluca took a deep breath when she saw the full extent of his injuries.
The workshop master’s back was covered with burned skin and meat, and some of the shards of the charcoal have embedded themselves deep into his body as well.
After he had water splashed into him, his apprentices removed his charred shirt, which also peeled a considerable amount of skin that got stuck onto it the moment he was burned.
「Master, I know that the pain that you are feeling right now must be terrible, so I will ask you to sleep for a while, okay? 」
Siluca spoke to him gently.
「I’ll leave everything to you then, Miss Mage. 」
The master laughed with beads of sweat running down all over his forehead.
「We will begin immediately then. 」
Siluca smiled and nodded at the workshop’s master. Then she took out a strange-looking plant root from the bag she had prepared before they came here and set it on fire.
「I’m afraid I am going to have to ask you all to go outside for a moment as well. 」
Siluca calls out to Theo and the master’s apprentices. Theo nodded and led the apprentices outside. In the meantime, a peculiar-smelling smoke rose from the roots of the plant that was burning in Siluca’s hand.
「The smoke that rises from the roots of the Mandragora paralyzes the body and puts the brain in a coma… 」
Siluca raised her wand and focused her mind on the roots in her hand. Then, she drew an image of smoke melting and sinking into the workshop master’s body, becoming one with him through his bloodstream.
「Sleep!」
Then she swung her magic wand and brought the convergence of Chaos to an end. For a while the master of the blacksmith workshop seemed to be unaware of what had happened to him. However, his eyes soon became cloudy and he lost consciousness, drifting off into a peaceful sleep.
Siluca puts her hand on the master’s mouth and made sure that his breathing was still calm. Even though she cast a spell that put him to sleep, she had to do it by injecting a Mandragora-based poison into his body, and sometimes doing just that may cause the patient to lose their life if their body reacts to the poison in a particularly violent way.
But now that the patient was properly asleep, Siluca used some distilled liquor to disinfect the wounds on his back and then proceeded to pick the pieces of the coal that were stuck to his skin one by one. It had to be done manually like that, because if she did not treat all of his wounds properly and only extracted the pieces of the coal with magic, then he could still feel some of the negative aftereffects later on.
At the Magic University’s Green Life Magic Faculty, the students who wanted to master Life Magic were given anatomy lessons and an opportunity to learn about the human body and the way it operated as much as they wanted. That knowledge included not only the information of how the outside of the body works, but also how does the inside of the body works as well. That is because that type of particular knowledge was necessary for everyone who wanted to master the art of healing with Life Magic. After all, if you have no idea how does the body work, then you will not be able to notice any abnormalities when they occur and deal with them quickly and efficiently.
When she was finally done extracting all of the pieces of the charcoal from the workshop master’s back, she then took a closer look at the fragments of his skin that stayed undamaged.
After fully imagining the entirety of his skin returning back to normal, Siluca returned her gaze to his scorched back. Taking enough time to properly prepare, Siluca activated the Regeneration Magic. The first thing to be repaired was he subcutaneous tissue, which was then followed by the external layer of the skin, which gradually got back its healthy, cherry-like color.
Siluca took a deep breath. For the time being, it looks like the burns that the workshop’s owner have suffered have been healed. And now that this part of the treatment has been completed, Siluca went and used a Detoxification spell next in order to remove the sleep poison from his body as well as any natural poisons that he could have gotten infected with when he was burned.
