Volume 2 Chapter 3 Part 7

「This case is just growing bigger and bigger, isn’t it? 」

Clara nodded her head.

「Even we Werewolves will never hunt in the Forest of Everlasting Darkness, even if that would be the last option we had left. A long time ago, there was one of the tribesmen who broke that rule… and when we later found him, he was in an utterly tragic state. 」

Siluca knew what Clara was talking about, because she read about it in one of the books in Vilar’s castle’s library.

It was a record dating back to the times when the relationship between the Werewolves and the Vampires became so strained that an all-out conflict could have broken out at any moment. However, the head of the Constance family at the time and the witch elder intervened and managed to somehow settle the situation before it reached the breaking point.

「Could it be that the Vampire King is hiding the heavy knights of Waldrind? 」

Theo asked.

「No, I don’t doubt that the Vampire King would ever do such a thing. 」

Siluca hastly shook her head in protest.

「They might be creepy and unsettling beings, but it needs to be said that so far the Vampires have been living their lives quietly within the boundaries of the Forest of Eternal Darkness and even protected this land whenever the need for them to do so arose. 」

Clara said to supplement Siluca’s statement. Siluca understood that too. The Vampires who managed to gain immortality should be immune to any changes occurying in the outside world, but whenever their way of life would be threatened, they would obviously do everything in their power to defend it.

「It is also possible that the heavy knights of Waldrind, knowing that the people of Artuk would not come near that place, risked hiding in there while fully knowing the dangers that such a venture would entail. In that case, we would have to search the Forest of Eternal Darkness as well,but in order to do that, we would have to get the Vampire King’s permission first. It might be hard, but it is possible that once we manage to secure his cooperation, this case might be easily resolved. I was originally planning to visit him for the same reasons I have visited you today, Queen Clara, so I think I will try heading to his castle after all. 」

「Are you planning on going to such a dangerous place? 」

Theo asked her worriedly. Siluca was secretly happy that he cared about her so much to the point of being worried about her well-being.

「It is my duty, just like yours is to represent Lord Vilar and Irvin’s is to work together with the Werewolves for the time being. 」

Siluca smiled and nodded at Theo.
「I hate to ask for help from those guys, but if they are really hiding themselves in the Forest of Eternal Darkness, then I guess it simply cannot be helped this time. 」

Clara let out a big sigh, and then she gently hugged Siluca.

「Just be careful on your way there, okay? And make sure to come back in one piece. When you do, I will make sure to have another delicious treat waiting for you. 」

「Oh, t-thank you very much, your majesty. 」

Without even realizing it, Siluca was about to burst into tears.

During her stay at Queen Clara’s mansion, she treated Siluca in the same way like a mother would treat her daughter, and since Siluca did not remember her own mother ever showing her such affection since birth, she did not know how she should be dealing with these feelings of warmth and comfort. So far she managed to admirably endure the feelings of being spoiled by Clara, but now she felt like all of her restraints were about to break down

「If you are going to the Forest of Eternal Darkness, I was going to go back to Baron Eugen’s castle, so I can take you half of the way on horseback. 」

「O-On horseback? 」

Theo’s words made Siluca terribly anxious. After all, if Theo offered to take her a part of the way on horseback, then that would naturally mean that they would have to sit in the same saddle together

「Well, of course we would have to go on horseback. I mean, without Irvin around, you cannot go by carriage , can you? 」

On the other hand, Theo was perfectly calm like usual.

「T-That’s right… 」

Siluca reprimanded herself for her over-consciousness in her mind. They are in a situation where literally every minute counts, and being taken halfway towards her next destination by horse would certainly be better than having to walk on foot all the way, so Siluca was determined to accept Theo’s gracious offer.

「Then, can I ask you something? 」

Feigning composure, Siluca asked Theo a question while she got on Theo’s horse and they proceeded to leave the Werewolf village behind as they made their way towards the Forest of Eternal Darkness.

Unbeknownst to Siluca and Theo, two figures were watching them from the shadows of the nearby building. These two figures were Emma and Luna, the twin sisters and the youngest children of the Werewolf Queen Clara. Both of them had a pair of wolf-like ears on their heads, and their tails have been protruding from underneath their clothes.

「Did you hear the same thing that I heard? 」

「I sure did. 」
Emma asked, and Luna answered.

They had secretly listened to the conversation between their mother and Siluca, from beginning to the end.

「We have got to show that we are grown-ups as well, are we not? 」

「Oh yes, definitely! Maybe we can even get mother a son-in-law in the process! 」

The two looked at each other and nodded their heads.

「If we manage to show just how useful we can be, then mother will have to accept us, right? 」

「Not only mother, but our brothers and sisters as well! I am sure of it! 」

One of the twins stated an opinion, and the other immediately agreed with it.

「Maybe this Theo will be so amazed with us that he will choose us over Siluca? 」

「Or maybe he would go as far as to break his Crest so that he could become a Werewolf? 」

They both smiled at that particular possibility.

「But if that happens, then which one of us would get him as her groom? 」

「Do we really have to choose? It should be fine if he were to be a groom for both of us. 」

「You think Theo would be more pleased with that? 」

「I am sure that he is going to be very happy! 」

The two nodded once more, transforming into their full wolf forms. Their clothes have been made in the same way that Clara’s were, which means that they did not tear apart when the girls transformed themselves.

The two slipped out of the village, hiding their footsteps as best as possible. Once they made sure that they have moved far away from the village without getting spotted, the tow girls started running at full speed with their playful spirits being at an all-time high.

When it comes to the distance that they could traverse, their swift wolf’s feet should be able to carry them all the way from the Werewolf village all the way to the Forest of Eternal Darkness in about a day, which means that Emma and Luna should be able to reach the castle of the King of Vampires much faster than it would take Siluca and Theo to reach the outer border of the forest.

However, since they still remembered the lessons that their mother told them about how dangerous of a place the Forest of Eternal Darkness is, they made a stop at the edge of the forest and examined the path that was ahead of them carefully.

It was not long after they started searching that they found a trail that bore traces of a large number of people passing through it relatively recently.

When the two sisters looked at each other, they have finally made up their minds and entered the forest. After a short whole of careful advancing, they sensed someone’s presence ahead of them

The two were startled and their hair stood up all over their bodies, but they kept their footsteps quiet and approached further still. Then they saw a man walking deep into the forest.
