Volume 6 Chapter 3 Part 2

In an ironic turn of events, the people responsible for defeating her were the Werewolf twins. Yana thought that they were nothing more than a pair of bratty, immature children, but even she had to admit that she was done in by them beautifully.

After her defeat at the hands of the Werewolf twins, she managed to narrowly avoid death and tried to kill Theo Cornero in order to take revenge, but her attempt was thwarted by the Witch from Elam. Just remembering that was enough to make her feel a mixture of anger and regret.

Back in the Forest of Eternal Darkness she tried to kill the Witch from Elam, only for her to be protected by Theo Cornero, and now that she tried to kill Theo Cornero, he was protected by the Witch from Elam instead. This just goes to show that these two really do share a strong bond based on trust and love.

The two of them also appeared in the castle’s basement to interrogate her. And since it’s not like Yana knew all that much to begin with, and she didn’t have any particular reason to keep quiet about it, so she told them everything she knew and what they wanted to know. Yana thought it really wasn’t much, but apparently the Witch from Elam thought otherwise, because she was surprised and shocked by what they managed to learn from her.

「The members of the Inquiry Committee will be arriving here from Elam soon. 」

Siluca told her that one day.

She could pretty much predict what was going to happen to her after that. It’d be one thing if it was just going to be that her single, unhappy life is going to disappear without anyone noticing or caring, but that caused her to recall what Boltz the Assassin told her once: that her death was going to be worth more since so many people apparently want her dead. Back then she thought that such an idea was a crazy one, but right now these words of his were actually quite comforting, so she decided to cling onto them.

That’s when she felt someone’s presence drawing closer to her.

(That’s not a Werewolf…)

The twin Werewolf girls were always noisy as all hell, so it was really easy to tell they were coming, since her sense of hearing wasn’t taken from her. However, the presence was now very close to her, probably right outside of the cell in which Yana was being held. Then the cell was opened, and someone silently entered inside and removed the gag in Yana’s mouth, but just that, nothing else.
「You smell of Chaos. It’s not as bad as with the Werewolf girls or the Chamberlain… but just how many Arts did you engrave into your body? 」

Yana tried to call out to whoever it was who was with her inside of the cell right now.

「A good number of them… in my own way. 」

She actually got a reply. It was a woman’s voice, albeit it was a little quiet. She also didn’t recognize it.

「Who are you? Maybe you could let me escape? 」

「I thought about doing that at first, but it seems like you have to die after all. 」

The woman told her in a matter-of-factly voice.

「You, could it be… 」

Yana tried to continue, but a finger has been placed on her lips to prevent her from speaking any further.

「Then why don’t you just kill me here? 」

「That’s not going to be good either. The place where you will die has been decided to be the main plaza of Elam. 」

「Then why did you even come here?! 」

Yana screamed in anger.
「Do you have any wishes? Or anything you would like me to do for you? If I can, I will make it come true. Think of it as a gift from someone who was once in the same situation as you are now. 」

「I do have a wish. 」

Yana said without hesitation.

「Theo Cornero and Siluca Meletes… I want you to kill these two. 」

「I cannot do that. 」

The reply came almost instantly

「If that’s the case, then I don’t have any business for you. Just get out of here and leave me alone!」

Yana exclaimed, raising her finger and pointing it at the woman, or at least in the direction where she assumed that the woman was standing.

「Not yet, huh? 」

The woman whispered, and then she gagged Yana again.

「What do you mean… 」

She tried to ask back, but her ability to speak was once again taken from her before she could finish. Then the woman closes the gate to the prison without a word, and her presence disappears from Yana’s perception just as suddenly as it appeared.

(Does that mean that she’ll kill him eventually?)

If that’s going to be the case, then that would at least give Yana some peace of mind.

After all, there are also many people who wanted to see these two dead, not just Yana.

(Malevolent Star, oh Malevolent Star, please… )

… make my wish come true.

In her heart, the Black Witch Yana prayed fro misfortune to befall Theo Cornero and Siluca Meletes.

「Dear… 」

In one of their hideouts, a log cabin deep in the forest, Deirdre calls out to her husband,Baron Eugen Niklae, with an uncharacteristically cheerful look on her face.

「What’s wrong, my love? 」

Eugen was grilling sausages given to him by the people of the territory so that he could eat them together with the herbs that Deirdre had found.

「I just received a call from Siluca. Last time she reported that she and her companions managed to reach Sistina safely, and now she contacted me again. She said that Lord Theo managed to successfully liberate Sistina from the oppressive rule of the Rossini family. 」

「What did you say?! 」

Eugen was so surprised that he abruptly stood up from his chair, and he did that with such force behind it that his thighs have hit the underside of the table and sent it flying along with the two freshly prepared sausages that tumbled onto the floor.

Eugen hastily picked them up.

After wiping them with the sleeve of his clothes, he popped them into his mouth as if nothing had ever happened.

「Finally, he managed to do it! 」

After eating the sausages, Eugen clenched his fists strongly several times.

「Not only that, but according to Siluca, they also managed to quell the Chaos Vortex that was the core of the Demonic Realm at the sea near Sistina and captured the Black Witch who is said to be the perpetrator behind 「The Tragedy of the Grand Cathedral」! 」

「Well I’ll be damned! For someone so young, he surely did some amazing work! 」

Eugen opened his eyes wide and let out an excited voice.

「By the way, wouldn’t it be best for us to take advantage of this situation? 」

Deirdre suggested hesitantly.

「What do you mean? 」

Eugen didn’t quite understand what his wife was talking about, and so he asked her for an explanation.

「I’m saying that since Lord Theo managed to liberate Sistina from the Rossini family’s rule, we might be able to boost the morale of our people here on the continent by saying that he did that while acting in accordance with the will of the late Lord Vilar. 」

「That’s an amazing plan!」
After thinking about it for a while, Eugen realized what his wife meant to say and shouted out loud.

「As expected of my wife! You’re just as smart as Lord Theo’s contracted Mage Siluca Meletes… no, you’re way smarter than her! 」

Eugen said excitedly and hugged Deirdre tightly.

「No, please s-stop it… 」

Deirdre closed her eyes from embarrassment, so Eugen left her in a hurry.

「N-No, that’s not what I wanted to say! If you want, I will stop comparing you to Siluca Meletes, but do know that I only said it to highlight how amazing you are… because, you know, you’re also an excellent Mage capable of coming up with amazing plans, so if you have something in mind, then go ahead and talk about it confidently with your head held high… 」

Eugen was extremely dismayed, almost as much as Deadri was. Seeing him like that, she couldn’t help it but to chuckle. He had a stern face with a thick beard on it, but whenever he was like that, she had to admit that he was looking kinda cute.

「I’m glad to hear you say that, but this is just what my personality is like. 」

Because of this, Deirdre was deemed useless by Vllar and was sent to Eugen.
