“David, I have heard your words. Goodbye.”

Garn raised his staff over King David’s head and unleashed his power upon him.

The crystal attached to Garn’s staff lit and the power of lightning shot out and came down upon David. The speed at which lightning moves is something that unless you are a powerful being can not catch with the naked eye and yet, this strike of lightning, just before it hit David, in this tiny space, this small window of time, the lightning suddenly curved past David and was sucked into his scepter lying a few feet away.

Garn’s expression warped into confusion but the next moment he felt a terrible pain in his stomach. Looking down, his eyes met David’s but although nothing about David’s eyes changed, Garn could have sworn he saw a demonic shadow glint across King David’s eyes for a moment. King David held a small dagger covered in blood in his hand and staggered to his feet.

Garn was the opposite. Gripping his stomach tightly, he fell backward. He felt a burning in his guts and lifted his hand to see it covered in sticky crimson. Looking at David, he saw his ring slightly glowing and put it all together.

(I took too long.)

King David’s injuries though were also not light and as he tried to laugh at Garn, a large mouthful of blood was vomited up.

He extended a hand and his scepter flew to him. He whispered a few words into it but there was no reply. His face darkened. With no one responding to his call through his scepter he tried to call for help nearby.

“Anyone, your King requires aid!”

*Silence*

The King again shouted.

“Did no one hear me? This King needs help immediately!”

Garn slowly rolled over and pointed his staff at David but David quickly saw this and moved before Garn could.

His scepter waved and the energy that Garn had just moved into his staff was sucked out of his staff and absorbed in its entirety. Garn felt the Magic in his body being suppressed greatly. Still, he tried to pull out anything he could and fire a shot at David but David waved his scepter and a beam of light crashed into a hastily built barrier from Garn. At the same time, David waved his scepter once more and the energy from Garn’s barrier was drained away at a rapid rate.

It was only moments later that Garn’s barrier started to warp until it could hold no longer and it dissipated. David’s beam of light continued forward and hit Garn’s hand, knocking his staff far away. King David smirked.

“Ah ah ah, I don’t think so, brother. You thought that it would just be my throne room and my throne that could absorb magic, hehehe. My scepter as well protects me and because of this ring on my hand, even if I’m not holding my scepter personally, this ring is connected to it and can allow me to control my scepter even without touching it. You’ve always taught me to have a backup plan, who knew that your lesson to me would be your own downfall.”

King David coughed up more blood.

“Dammit, is there no one here? Someone hurry up or face my wrath.”

Still, no one came.

Garn couldn’t help but laugh in such a situation.

“This is perfect. It looks like the two of us shall die together, how appropriate.”

With Garn’s magic being suppressed, he could not heal the wound to his stomach and blood was still pouring out of him.

David was already infuriated from before but Garn’s words were just salt in his wounds. David staggered over and held his staff above his head. With as much strength as he could muster, he swung it down and bashed Garn repeatedly all over. With most of Garn’s power being suppressed, he was almost exactly the same as a regular old man. Add the fact that Garn was well over 80 years old, each of David’s blows were truly ruthless.

“This is what you get, this is what you deserve. Did you think that I would finish you with magic, that would be too much of a waste. No, this is how you shall die. An old man bludgeoned to death by a King, you should be grateful for such an honor.”

This beating lasted for nearly a minute until King David was completely exhausted. Being a King and sitting around all day plus the fact that he was already past the age of 60, David had never been fit and it only took a minute for his stamina to fail him. David leaned against his throne and took heavy breaths. He stared at the unmoving Garn, a feeling of satisfaction washing over him.

“Your Highness!”

A shout from not too far away echoed out.

“Over here.”

The King responded back.

A few seconds later and several people appeared in the surroundings. A soldier saw the King’s miserable state and pulled at the man beside him.

“Healer, quickly to his Majesty’s side, he requires help immediately.”

The healer didn’t need to be told twice and rushed to King David’s side and began healing him on the spot. King David felt his pain lifting away and felt even more confidence.

“You see, Garn, I am King and you are nothing, hehehe.”

Garn’s body twitched hearing King David’s words and he slowly turned over. Those that saw his state were shocked, to say the least. King David had beaten him all over and his body was covered in large wounds. His face had swollen and he bled all over. Looking at the way he was breathing, the healer was sure he had a few broken ribs, maybe even some lacerations. Garn’s left arm hung limply at the side, it was clear that it was broken and yet through all of this, Garn seemed calm to everything.

King David snorted.

“Hmph, still not dead. Just wait a moment for me to recover, I’ll kill you shortly.”

Garn looked at the men and women around him. Some had faces of pity while others held nothing but contempt in their eyes. One thing for sure though, none chose to step forward to help. These people knew of the corrupt nature of the King and they knew that Garn was trying to change things but still they refused to lift a finger.

(People who stand on the sides and do nothing when evil is committed deserve no sympathy from me. Whether they are cowards or evil themselves, why should I continue to care about these people?)

A thought appeared In Garn’s mind. A thought that he never even knew he could ever have. He had served and protected these lands for over 6 decades but even still, now in the time when he needed it most, no one would help him. King David had said that he had always been alone but in truth, it was Garn who was alone. Seeing the fools around him, Garn knew deep down in his heart that none of these people deserved him.

(Why did I protect this place for so long? Why did I spend my life here? This isn’t my homeland, these aren’t my people but I do care. I made a promise to Master long ago but how can I keep it with these fucks in charge. Master, David is not worthy to be related to you. I will change this place, Master. I will change all of Treia and make it into what it should have been all along. Master, forgive me for what I am about to do.)

Garn reached into a small pocket in his clothes and held something tightly in his hand. Nearly all of his magic was still being suppressed but what he needed to do now required very little. King David saw Garn grab something but he couldn’t quite tell what it was.

A few soldiers as well ran over and were about to grab Garn when King David called them off.

“Wait, let me do it.”

A soldier quickly interjected.

“But your Majesty it could be dangerous.”

King David swung his scepter at the man and crushed his nose. The man gripped his face and fell down to his knees while blood poured out from him.

“Keep quiet. Do you think he’s still a threat to me? Just look at his pathetic state. Garn, did you think you could pull a fast one. I told you, with this scepter, there’s not a thing you can do. Your magic is suppressed and your staff is gone. Why can’t you just lay there and die already?”

King David stood right in front of Garn and laughed at the kneeling old man in front of him. His laugh though still caused him a bit of pain since he wasn’t fully healed but there were no more mouthfuls of blood.

Garn looked up at David with no emotion on his face whatsoever.

“You are right David, you did knock away my staff and you have suppressed nearly all of my magic but you didn’t suppress all of it.”

Garn suddenly thrust the object in his hand forward and opened his palm. What appeared before David’s vision was a small round orb. A thought flashed in King David’s head.

(Huh…Isn’t tha…)

*BOOM!*
