Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 107
“Sir Kazuki, your soul…it’s damaged.”
This sentence hit Kazuki like a mountain. Nevius was a complete stranger to him and one would be foolish t just believe his words right away but there was a reason why Kazuki took these words seriously and that was the fact that very few knew he was having problems with his soul, and these people were his friends. People he could put his trust in. There was no way for some random old guy to know there was anything wrong with his soul.
Kazuki himself couldn’t figure out what the problem was but Nevius after only being around him for a few minutes claimed it was damaged. Not only that but Kazuki had already seen many things that he could not explain the moment he entered Nevius’s world. Things he couldn’t explain with neither science nor magic but here, these things were the norm. SO when Nevius mentioned his soul, Kazuki took it seriously.
“Nevius, if you wouldn’t mind, could you explain further. Why do you think my soul is damaged?”
Nevius quickly waved his hands in a panic.
“Sorry sorry sorry. I did not mean to cross a line. Surely you would have figured this out on your own.”
“Forget the noisy apologies and just tell me what you know.”
Nevius swallowed hard before just telling Kazuki what he could sense.
“You asked why I think your soul is damaged but Sir I don’t think it’s damaged, I know for a fact that it is. I may not be very skilled but my senses are sharper than ever. Without even diving into your soul world, I can only tell you what I sense from the surface. From a glance, your soul has been damaged not just once but actually on three separate occasions. I can sense three tiny distinctive fractures in your soul. One was made when you were young quite young. From my senses, the first time your soul was damaged was maybe in your teenage years. The second one was formed when you were already a man and the third followed maybe a year or so afterward. Not only do you have three fractures in your soul but if the damage could further and your soul may even regress in a few years.”
Kazuki’s eyes widened in shock. The way he described the time frame was too accurate to be a coincidence.
(The first time must have been when Sephra first stole my Mage core. Mage cores have a fragment of one’s soul could that be the cause, could that be the beginning of it all. What’s most worrying is the regression. If this old man’s words are correct, my powers could shrink in time. I can’t allow that!)
“Nevius, the way you speak about it, it’s almost like you’ve seen it yourself. How can you just say you know, where is the proof?”
Nevius was a little shocked.
“But Kazuki, I’m part druid.”
Kazuki stared at him blankly for a second.
“So?”
Nevius was a little shocked.
“Sir Kazuki, do you not know about druids?”
“How would I? You are the first one I’ve ever met.”
“Sir
“Stop it with the sir, your older than I am. You keeping addressing me like that is odd.”
“Kazuki?”
Kazuki gave a nod.
“Better. I don’t like formalities nor over-politeness. Just call me by my name and I’ll do the same for you. Now back to it, you’re a druid and that has what to do with my soul?”
Nevius was about to apologize again but he could see his apologies were annoying Kazuki and stopped.
“We druids are beings birthed from mother nature and therefore are closest to nature. Because of this, our senses for the elements which are part of the natural universe are far sharper than most other beings. We are above elfs and above dragons in this regard. We can feel the elements to such a degree that even without using magic, it’s as if the magic is speaking to us, telling us things that others simply do not know or are unaware of entirely. These senses don’t stop at just magical energy but go even further beyond that and can allow us to even sense another’s soul and hear the soul itself. From this alone, I can tell if someone is evil or if someone is good. I can tell and conclude many things about a person without even having the need to get close to them. Because of this innate ability, I have avoided death many times over.
“Hmm, now that’s interesting. Is this another reason why you’ve been avoiding me? Not just my first impression but maybe you are sensing something from my soul. Tell me, do you think I’m evil?”
Nevius shook his head profusely.
“No, you are not evil…but, you have the capability within you. Rather all living things do. From your soul what I sense is a teetering. Your soul leans more toward good but you have a fiery rage within you that even I have a hard time seeing the limit of. With this rage, whatever its source is, it fuels you. This rage could take you one day. On that day, I believe you would stop at nothing to see your goals fulfilled and in doing so, that good becomes dulled and that evil heightened until that good is completely washed away and drowned out. You could be good or you could be evil, nothing decided as of yet. Because of that, yes I was scared, no, I still am scared, to be honest, but I also can sense the good in you. As long as I don’t get in your way and become an enemy, there should be no danger.”
Kazuki found all of this to be rather interesting.
“You can really sense all of that with just a glance.”
Nevius nodded.
“That is only a part of it. Because of this ability, I can see a few things about your soul, and these three fractures are the things that stand out the most. I know it’s not the proof you asked for but if you can’t believe my words, perhaps a demonstration.”
Nevius took a step forward with his hand extended and Kazuki’s aura came flooding out and pressed him to the ground.
*Bang!*
The ground split apart and Nevius sunk nearly a foot into the ground and was immobilized. The moment Kazuki did this, the sky changed from peaceful calm to a thunderous storm. The strange silk-like objects flying to and fro suddenly turned crimson red and lightning started to strike down all around the two.
Kazuki looked around confused but then Nevius called out.
“STOP!”
Kazuki at first thought Nevius was talking to him but then Nevius continued.
“It was my fault, not Kazuki’s. He thought I was trying to harm him so please calm down!”
Everything within this tiny world seemed to listen and the thundering clouds and lightning transformed once more back to a bright calming sky. The flying silk-like objects turned blue and yellow and began to float and sway here and there. The world became peaceful again.
“Kazuki, I shouldn’t have tried anything but I honestly meant no harm. I understand we are new to one another and trust has yet to be established between us. Forgive me for being presumptuous. Can you please let me up now?”
Kazuki looked around at the sky and world before retracting his aura.
“I shouldn’t have just attacked. I as well am at fault.”
Nevius shook his head repeatedly.
“No, It’s me who’s more at fault. I knew you didn’t trust me, I could sense it from your soul but I was rushing things and wanted to get on your good side.”
“My good side, and why would you want to get on my good side. First, you’re afraid of me then you want to be all buddy buddy, what is this exactly.”
Kazuki was growing suspicious. He had flown deep into space thinking about what Danny said and then he had out of nowhere become lost. The more he thought about it the more it didn’t make sense. Even if he was lost in thought, he should have sensed the direction along with his surroundings. Thinking about it now, things weren’t adding up.
Nevius was quiet and was starting to fidget.
“Was our meeting not a coincidence? Your powers are strange and you far stranger. After you vanished the first time we met, I nor anyone else in this Realm could sense even a hair of yours but today I just so happen to run into you. You who can vanish without a trace and hide so well and I just so happen to become lost and find my surroundings off. With these mysterious abilities, you could do it. As a matter of fact, you are probably the only being in this Realm who could trick my senses. Am I right?”
Nevius slowly got up from the ground and bowed in front of Kazuki.
“Your right. I did it all with a purpose. I need your help with something incredibly important and you are the only one I can count on. Besides our fabricated encounter, everything else is true. I can sense the damage of your soul. If you help me, I will be more than happy to find a way to help you. So please, give me a chance.”
