Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 11

The moment Kazuki showed Orberus how to recreate the devouring void, Orberus opened a rift and a dirty ragged man fell out of it. The man had cuff marks on both his wrist and ankles and was obviously a prisoner of sorts. His entire body was caked in dirt and he had scars and burns all over. The smell itself was gag-inducing and one could see at a glance this man had suffered greatly.

When this prisoner saw Orberus, he immediately fell down on both his hands and knees and begged.

“My lord forgive me. I should not have stolen from you. I was a fool then and and

*Shhh*

“You spoke too much then and after 100 years you still do not know when to cease your babbling. Today you will be of service to me. If you are of use, your sins will be forgotten and you will be free.”

The dirty prisoner began to cry.

“Yes my lord, anything, anything!”

“Very good, just stay there and don’t touch anything you nasty filth. This should be over shortly.”

The old prisoner nodded and with it came a bit of dust falling from his head. Before Kazuki could understand what was going on in this veil of shadows, Orberus pointed two fingers at the prisoner.

Kazuki felt a gush of energy shoot forward and land squarely on the man’s chest. The moment this happened Kazuki who was close enough could feel the spinning void coming into existence within the old prisoner. Kazuki couldn’t help but stare at Orberus in shock. He quickly spoke through his mind in a state of panic.

(Are you mad? You know what this power can do and you’re giving it to some prisoner!)

Orberus didn’t even pay attention to Kazuki and focused on the prisoner. The moment the devouring void was created, more power shot out of Orberus’s two fingers and entered the man again. He was directly feeding the spinning void.

The prisoner shook and he felt an intense heat rise within his body. Bones began to crack and muscles tore before being remade aknew. The man cried out in pain.

“WHY!!?”

Orberus ignored the man’s shout and only continued to feed the spinning void within the man. More and more power flooded the man and with it, the man became taller, stronger, tougher. Kazuki watched this all unfold and witnessed to his shock, the prisoner’s strength rise infinitely close to his own in seconds.

(To grow this quickly, how much energy did Orberus give him?)

Kazuki was close enough to feel the man’s Mage core with his aura. The man was shockingly only at the 3rd stage. This meant that only the man’s physical form was growing. The prisoner did not know about taking in the magic and making it his own before transferring it to his own soul tree, otherwise, his soul and Mage core would have grown and evolved rapidly as well. Still, to gain this much strength in seconds was both amazing and terrifying.

Kazuki began to understand how some of his foes must have felt when dealing with him. To face an opponent who grew stronger and stronger like this it must have been disheartening, to say the least.

As this power poured into the prisoner, a problem soon followed. The man’s body could not evolve any further. His muscles developed to a point that his body could not hold and they began to spill out of him painfully. His bones broke but could no longer keep up with the regeneration and his blood seeped from every pore like a small flood.

The man tried to cry out in agony but even that was denied to him as his throat filled with hot crimson and he started coughing as he choked. Orberus nodded along as he watched with fascination.

(That’s enough. Orberus…Grandfather! ENOUGH!)

Kazuki witnessed something he really wished he hadn’t and shouted through his mind. Orberus raised a brow at him before sighing and waving his hand. The moment he waved his hand, a small spike of power came with it and hit the prisoner.

In that exact moment, the man was reduced to ash and then nothingness.

Both Nunully and Asuna were shocked seeing this and even Kazuki was disgusted by Orberus’s actions.

(You said you were going to free him but you killed him instead.)

Orberus shrugged.

(He is free…Free from life. Why are you acting like this when you’ve seen far worse…done far worse.)

Kazuki denied it.

(I never killed anyone who didn’t deserve it. What you just did

(What I just did? He got exactly what he deserved and nothing more. The man was a prisoner for a reason. Not only that but when it comes to killing the innocent are you not in denial or maybe you really just haven’t realized it yourself Kazuki.)

Kazuki didn’t understand what Orberus was talking about when Orberus waved his hand once more. A small flash of light appeared before him and showed him many scenes of his fight with Fera previously back on Gordonia. It showed them battling it out before the images changed location and showed other places around not only the Feya continent but the other continents as well.

Tidal waves rose thousands of feet high, continents split and volcanos erupted. Storms spread out chaotically and forests were uprooted all over. It showed millions upon millions of people dying left and right. People, animals and more.

(Those Titans could only protect so much. Everyone once and a while one or two of your attacks or Fera’s would breach the barriers and cause destruction all around. Gordonia wasn’t the only place. You and Fera only fought across a small section of that Lower Realm but look at what you left in your wake boy.)

The images flashed again and showed the planets Fera had destroyed trying to shake Kazuki off of her. Some of the planets were dead and held no life but a few did. When those planest were destroyed due to their battle, billions of creatures lost their lives in an instant.

Kazuki knew there would be casualties, he knew that it was unavoidable but to know that he was responsible for so much destruction, there was an odd feeling in his mind. Half of him was concerned and felt guilty while the other half, for some reason, even he didn’t know why he felt a rush of adrenaline and wondered how much more…Kazuki quickly got rid of such awful thoughts but those thoughts even though they may be cruel, they did exist within the back of his mind.

Kazuki looked disgusted but Orberus could see something in his eye.

(Heh, you really are my blood.)

Kazuki glared at him before changing the subject back to the topic at hand.

(I still don’t understand why this man needed to die like this. Why did you recreate the devouring technique inside of him?)

Orberus shrugged once more.

(Even though I’ve witnessed you create it yourself and I made it as well, it doesn’t mean there couldn’t be something hidden within it, something dangerous. Whether you would knowingly do such a thing to your poor old grandfather or whether you were ignorant of it and didn’t know there was something dangerous in it, I had to be sure. So I tested it on someone. To think he would be so weak and die from this small amount of energy though, how pathetic. At least he was somewhat useful though. I saw through the technique once it was activated and my grandson you didn’t betray me. So I’m grateful in that regard.)

(All of that was to test the technique. I…)

Kazuki didn’t have much to say. If he didn’t have absolute trust in someone he probably would have done the same thing, maybe not in such a cruel way but he would have found a way to test it. That he couldn’t deny.

Kazuki shook his head.

(Now that you’ve tested it and know it’s legit, the deal

(Yes yes yes. I’ll send you back and your favorite people one who’s a stranger to you and the other you’ve not seen for almost half of your life, I’ll free them.)

Kazuki eyed Orberus up and down and Orberus knew why.

(Don’t worry boy, when I say free I don’t mean kill. What would be the point of killing them and breaking our beautiful relationship.)

(We have no relationship remember? After today, we are done forever. Also, all of those places and images you showed me just now in that Lower Realm, none of them came from my compass. They must have come from other magic tools you’ve hidden across that place. I want those gone. I don’t want you or anyone else from this family peering down at me or anyone in that Realm.)

(So many conditions. Your a bit of a deva aren’t you, hehe.)

Kazuki went silent.

(And now the silent treatment, hehe. My grandson is so odd but I can’t seem to hate a single thing you do. Maybe I’m the strange one. Right, I’ll remove those things but won’t you have trouble contacting me. What if you miss me. Also once I remove those devices, I’ll have nothing in that Lower Realm that contains my power. Once that happens I’ll not be able to find that place ever again since the Realms move. Are you really sure you don’t want to become my heir?)

(I don’t know how many times I must say it old man, I want nothing to do with you. Besides, the whole heir thing was a lie in the first place remember.)

Orberus smiled mischievously.

(Right you are boy. Fine. Since I’ve confirmed the technique, I’ll send you on your way.)

The veil of darkness covering the two vanished into thin air and Alutra and Daisius could once again see them.

Alutra saw that Kazuki was completely unharmed and became confused.

“Father what…what did you do?”

Orberus slapped Kazuki on the shoulder.

“I and Kazuki have come to terms. Listen up. Daisius, with you as my witness, I Orberus Zigoul, from this day on am severing my familial ties with Kazuki Zigoul as well as Lin Zigoul and my precious daughter Alutra Zigoul, hehe. I will no longer watch him nor anyone in that sacred little Realm of his, nor will I interfere in his life unless he wishes it.”

Kazuki rolled his eyes. Even now the old man was trying to find ways into his life. Kazuki only understood a little about this so-called Grandfather of his. It was obvious he was eccentric and a tyrant in many ways. He put on a play in front of everyone just to get something from Kazuki in order to gain more power and strength. This showed Kazuki the man would do anything for power but what Kazuki didn’t understand was why the man insisted on a relationship with him.

(This bastard is far too strange. Cutting all ties with him here and now is the best thing I can do.)

With Orberus’s words, a golden beam of light surrounded both Alutra and Kazuki.

Daisius and Alutra were utterly confused by all of this. Before anyone could say anything, Kazuki started to vanish.

(WHAT ABOUT LIN! WE MADE A DEAL!)

Orberus shrugged once more.

(He still owes me a week in prison for his words on this old man’s poor ears. I’ll fulfill my side, don’t you worry boy.)

After that Orberus smirked at Alutra.

“I am no longer in need of your power precious daughter. Go and never return!”

A powerful force took hold of a still confused Alutra before she started to vanish through time and space she could feel her body being destroyed and remade as she went from a god to a Demigod in one terrifying moment.

Orberus chuckled.

“Hehe, Goodbye and thanks.”

After these final words, the two golden beams of light completely disappeared as if they were never even there.
