Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 110
Kazuki understood this concept perfectly well. In order to find an opening during his final battle with Fera, he used both Asuna and Nunully as decoys. The moment they died, Fera was left stunned for a split second which allowed Kazuki to take advantage and kill her. Afterward, Nunully and Asuna were left with bodies and only their souls remained.
Later on, Kazuki got Zephris to make new bodies for not only them but for Danny as well. In this way, they were brought back. Nevius had a similar problem but instead of needing bodies, he needed their souls. This is what left Kazuki confused. After death, Kazuki had brought both Asuna and Nunull’s souls into his soul world to make sure they were safe. If he didn’t do this, he had no clue what would happen to them.
He didn’t know if they would just dissipate or fade away or even float away somewhere. He really had no clue. One thing he knew though is that souls themselves contained energy and if that energy was used up, they would cease to exist.
This fact reminded him of his brother’s sacrifice.
“You need my help to do what exactly? I’m not connecting my abilities with your family’s souls. You said it yourself, your wife and child died thousands of years ago, wouldn’t their souls no longer be around? Once they are gone and after all of this time, isn’t it hopeless?”
“No, it’s not hopeless! Their souls are out there somewhere, I can feel it. I…I just don’t know where. This is where you come into play.”
Kazuki suddenly thought about the trade Nevius had made with Detra. He had traded the special life-giving tree to Detra for some of her power over the element of time. Thinking about his own power to mimic space, Kazuki began to put it together but it still made no sense to him.
“My role, you’re not going to tell me you wish to control space while you use the time you got from Detra to reverse it, are you? You know as well as I do that there is no such thing as physically going back in time. I’m sure Detra would have told you this already earlier if you didn’t already know. If this is the plan, then I can only disappoint you.”
To his surprise Nevius wasn’t disappointed in the least, instead, the old man was actually smiling.
“Kazuki you misunderstand my intentions. I know all about time. I learned long ago that going back in time is physically impossible. But, I never said I would go back physically. Do you remember what I said moments ago about Origin energy and artifacts? The whole reason I need you is not for your magic power nor your strength but instead for an item that you carry with you.”
Kazuki was at a loss.
(An item I carry with me?)
The only item that could be said to be worth anything was not really an item at all but rather Fera’s corpse. Many wanted it for the Divine energy inside of it and many would try to tear through Kazuki and this Realm to get it. He knew this couldn’t be what Nevius was talking about though because it had nothing to do with time. The only other thing he could think of popped into his head and he curiously spoke.
“Are you talking about the Gosechu box?”
Nevius nodded.
“Indeed I am.”
Kazuki again was confused.
“That box, after it opened I thought it was placed back into my storage ring but I haven’t seen it since Zephris and I shared memories. I’ve already lost it.”
Nevius chuckled lightly.
“Why don’t you stop hiding already.”
Kazuki looked at Nevius but Nevius continued.
“As I’ve told you already I can sense things much more than most. The Gosechu box didn’t vanish it simply hid within your ring. Use your mind and ask it to come out. If you do, it will surely listen.”
Kazuki stared at Nevius as if he were crazy but Nevius’s expression never broke as he stared at Kazuki with hopefulness.
Kazuki could see that Nevius really believed that the Gosechu box was with him. There was no tell or hint of falsehood in his eyes but Kazuki really had lost sight of the little treasure box.
(Could he be telling the truth? Why lie, there should be nothing for him to gain in deceiving me now. It wouldn’t hurt to try it.)
Kazuki sent his senses into his ring and with a single thought he called out.
(Gosechu.)
The small gem embedded in his ring lit up with a flash of purple light before the mysterious cube appeared in his hand.
Kazuki couldn’t believe it was really there just like the old man said.
“This whole time. This whole time it’s been with me, hidden away. How could I have never felt it? It’s been sitting in my ring hiding away.”
Kazuki couldn’t help but glance at Nevius, waiting for an answer. To Kazuki, all of these weird things, only the old man seemed to have the answers, and sure enough, Nevius went into more detail.
“That box is very special. When I said I settled here because it was pretty quiet that is true but there was a little more to the story. Searching for a way to bring my family back, I knew how impossible the task seemed to be. After you die, a myriad of things can happen to your soul. Whether it simply lingers, attached to your corpse, or wonders about randomly and directionless, it could go a number of ways. When I found out about souls and of there importance I immediately rushed to where I buried my family but their souls were no longer there. How then could I find them? After so many years have passed I could still feel something but I couldn’t track it properly but what if one could.”
Kauzki was startign to udnerstand.
“This is where the element of time comes in.”
Nevius nodded.
“If I could take a look back into the past, I could see the exact moment my family died and trace the second their souls moved. With the power of time, I could watch and follow everywhere their souls went all the way up to the present. Once I did that, I could go to wherever their souls were and retrieve them and place them in their new bodies.”
“If it’s just that, I don’t understand why you couldn’t get Detra to do this for you. I’m not saying she would have done it for free, but you could have made a new deal with her, no?”
Nevius sighed.
“It’s not that clear cut. Detra is powerful but she is not that powerful. She can see the past quite easily but that only pertains to this Realm as this is where she has always been. In this Lower Realm, she can see every moment of every second from the past until now but my family died in another Realm. Her powers to see the past are limited to this place. Not only that but even if she could see my family’s past, she would not be able to track their souls as that is an incredibly difficult task. She would need senses near a druids level and those she does not have. To add to that, she would need to travel to the Realm where my family died and we both know she is not willing to leave this place unless it’s for her “Husband”.”
There was no argument from Kazuki. He knew just how obsessed Detra was when it came to her husband. Well, at least she used to be. Now though, there was a noticeable change in her recently. The root cause of that change was of course Alutra.
Nevius pointed at the Gosechu box and he became very serious.
“That box though, it has such an ability and more. After trying for a long time to figure out a way to track my loved ones down, I heard rumor of a powerful tool that could show one the past, present, and future. At first, I only took it as a rumor, after all, what kind of tool could possibly do something as incredible as view the past, present, and future. It was around this time that I discovered an ancient ruin and I learned about Artifacts and Origin energy. I began to believe. I still had no way of actually finding this special box but I knew of its properties. It used a powerful amount of time, space, and light magic whenever it was activated, so I set up special tools in countless Realms to feel out and sense this powerful magic. After that, I waited, and waited and waited some more until one of my sensors went off.”
Kazuki looked at the small box in his hand and wondered at which point in time it was activated before him.
“The moment my sensor went off, I immediately went to its location but the box was nowhere to be found. I thought everything had been in vain but that’s when I sensed it. A small remnant of the Gosechu box’s energy was still present and with that small trail I tracked it and narrowed its location down to a few hundred Realms. Afterward, I waited once more. It was activated again and again several more times until finally, I found this small Realm. Someone somewhere in this Realm had hold of it. After that, I settled down in this Realm and once again I awaited the Gosechu box’s activation.”
