Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 112
This was all surprising to Kazuki. One bizarre thing followed by another. Looking at the small box in his hand, he wondered why he had supposedly been chosen.
“This box, you can understand it, it can communicate back with you?”
Nevius nodded.
“Yes but only a bit. The ideas and thoughts it is trying to convey are too complex for me, I can only make out a word here and there.”
“What is it saying, why did it choose me?”
Nevius shut his eyes for a moment and the box did nothing of notice but a moment later Nevius opened his eyes and wore a troubled look.
“It’s difficult but it keeps repeating two words. It keeps saying “Help Kazuki” Beyond that, it’s jumbled and immensely difficult to comprehend even with my soul reading ability.”
(It wants to help me. This only leaves me with more questions than answers but at the very least it doesn’t seem to be an enemy. Not only that, but it also saved me.)
Kazuki looked at Nevius and the man was still nervously awaiting his answer to his request.
“I don’t see a reason to refuse you but I don’t even know if this little box will listen to me.”
The box vibrated gently in Kazuki’s hand and Nevius chuckled lightly and was extremely happy.
*Hehe*
Kazuki thought it was because of the good news but it seemed to be because of the small box he held.
“What’s so funny?”
“Well, from what I can interpret, it seems the box is annoyed you and I keep referring to it as box this and box that. It has a name but I can’t begin to understand it. It seems to begin with an A and then an R but I can’t understand the rest.”
Kazuki held the box up.
“Hmm, Sorry little one. You seem to be able to understand me but I can’t seem to even hear you. Since your name begins with a and then r and you used a few sparks of electricity a moment ago, how about I call you Arc for now. Later on, maybe I’ll be able to find a way to understand you, how’s that for now.”
Kazuki felt no response but Nevius nodded along.
“It seems that will do for now but don’t get used to it, Arc says.”
Kazuki nodded back.
“Ok Arc.”
“Kazuki, now that you’ve agreed I’d very much like to get started right away. I said I would guide you to help fix the first fracture in your soul. With just my words you should easily be able to find and fix the first one, the others will definitely need my intervention but for now, shall we get started.”
Kazuki gently sat the Arc down on the table in front of him.
“Sure but first, I’d like to see the bodies and examine them. You don’t have a problem with that do you?”
*Haa*
Nevius sighed before shaking his head.
“It only makes sense that you still do not trust me fully. I understand.”
With a wave of his hand, two large crystals measuring around 7 feet tall appeared floating next to Nevius. These crystals were see-through and inside were two bodies both female. One encapsulated a young woman and the other a small child, a girl. Both were perfectly preserved and although they held no life, they could be brought to life at any given moment with a bit of power.
Kazuki’s aura entered the magic crystals and he examined both bodies. Nevius wondered what he was doing but said nothing. Kazuki still had some suspicions so he quickly checked just how long the bodies had been inside these crystals. The bodies themselves held on age nor degradation of any kind but the crystals themselves clearly did. Nevius had said he made these bodies thousands of years ago, so the crystals that housed them should naturally be thousands of years old.
Sure enough, Kazuki found the age of the crystals to be accurate to the old druid’s story. at the same time as he checked on these bodies, he was communicating with Detra through his mind. Asking her a series of questions he wanted to know if she felt the times in history when the Gosechu box had been used.
Detra had been alive for hundreds of millions if not billions of years and her skill over time and space was masterful.
(According to the old man’s story, the Gosechu box had been used a handful of times in this Realm and specifically on Gordonia. Gordonia is Detra’s home and so she would have naturally felt these instances if they did in fact occur.)
A few moments later, Detra confirmed the times she had sensed the mysterious box’s power and it all aligned with Nevius’s story.
(Ok, thank you for the information.)
(No problem, but why did you need to know such useless things?)
(I’ll tell you later, for now, have fun on your date.)
(You you…)
Kazuki could not see Detra at the moment but he would bet his entire worth that she was beet red at the moment. The communication ended there and Kazuki wore a teasing smile before his expression returned to normal.
(It seems he wasn’t lying. Fine, I’ll put some trust in him. If he gives me any indication that he’s trying to trick me, I’ll kill him on the spot.)
“What do I need to do?”
Kazuki at first was very cautious of this old man but after having a talk and confirming a few things, he learned the man was basically harmless and didn’t seem to be lying. At least in his mind, Nevius ash was not much of a threat. He may have a few mysterious abilities but Kazuki had many cards up his sleeve as well. One of them being his aura. When he applied his heavy pressure to Nevius the first time, he had only used a fraction of his power. Under this tiny amount, Nevius could do nothing against him. This alone brought Kazuki confidence.
This worked and he hadn’t even folded his aura into any layers or used aura strengthening. Even though the half druid was clearly skilled in other means, at fighting he most certainly was not.
Add to the fact that the man clearly needed Kazuki’s help, and Kazuki felt the man was telling the truth, plus, Kazuki had no other clues or means when it came to the problem with his soul. Nevius was the only one who had even given a proper explanation and the way he said it seemed to make sense.
Nevius gently touched the crystals before storing them away.
“Now then, let’s begin. First, please close your eyes and enter your soul world.”
(Right don to it huh?)
Kazuki closed his eyes and entered his soul world. There he saw a tall and mighty tree along and sensed his Mage core. Down near the bottom of his soul tree was the dark spinning vortex that could consume planets and stars with ease. An ever devouring infinite ocean of darkness.
The old man’s voice resounded in Kazuki’s mind.
(Now that you are here, I want you to press upon your soul tree and go back to the past, go back to the first instance of damage.)
Kazuki touched upon his soul tree and the clouds in his soul world began to swirl and move with a ferocious speed as they swept by in a haze.
Kazuki didn’t know what he was looking for but Nevius’s guiding voice came through.
(I want you to go back in your mind to the most devastating time you can think of.)
A flood of memories swept forth as Kazuki immediately recalled his first horrendous memory. His body was strapped down to a magic table and he was in chains. Lying next to him a few feet away was his older brother, also shackled.
Sephra and Fera stood over the two before Kazuki had his Mage core ripped out of his body. It was an excruciating feeling, one he would never forget.
(Now what?)
(This isn’t quite it. There is a link. This isn’t the worst part in your heart but rather what follows.)
The memory continued to play and after Kai screamed in agony from having his own core ripped away, it then showed Sephra creating magic blades before piercing Kai, killing him.
(Right there! Surround this memory, and isolate it with your soul.)
Kazuki’s soul wrapped around this devastating memory and experience. During the entire process, he was feeling and experiencing the memory as if it were happening all over again.
Very quickly this memory was pulled directly from Kazuki’s soul tree and floated silently there.
(Mage cores all contain a fragment of one’s soul. Not only did you lose this fragment the day your Mage core was stolen thereby damaging your soul but the damage was further increased by the emotional experience you felt. Witnessing your strong brother crumble and scream in agony furthered the damage already done and then to see him die right in front of your very eyes caused even more damage. In order to repair this damage, you must replace what was lost in some way. For you, you must use the happiest memory, the best experience in your entire life. First surround that one in your soul tree and extract it as well.)
The clouds in his soul world moved like lightning as they jumped and began displaying his best memory.
Several memories appeared one after another. One was the moment he felt as if he and his Granny master were families. Another was the day he first entered his own soul world and found his big brother. Another was recently when he reunited with Lin and another was the first time he kissed Asuna and Nunully.
All of these memories were flooding in like crazy one after another and Kazuki’s agony and suffering from the painful times were being washed away with these joyful memories.
(Good, combine these with pain, combine them with your sadness, your hatred, and devastation.)
Kazuki’s soul already contained all of these memories but extracting them out like this, seemed to have a purifying effect. Joining them together, Kazuki felt a warmth deep inside his chest.
Nevius guided him the entire way until the final moment. These memories and experiences rejoined the rest of his soul tree and his soul tree began to pulse with energy.
