Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 114

Kazuki disappeared into the void of space. His speed nearing that of light itself as he flew, lost in thought. He felt he had been robbed of his choice. Now that the first fracture in his soul had been repaired, he no longer felt hatred for Sephra. He couldn’t believe such a thing was possible. His most hated enemy, the number one person he would do anything to kill, and now, he no longer felt that way.

Kazuki had left Nevius alone to wallow but even this did not feel like enough for him.

(WHY!? It’s always something, something always gets taken from me. Time and time again and now I can’t even feel an ounce of hatred for Sephra. Should I revert backward? Should I tamper with my soul and damage it just for this hatred. If I do that my powers will regress and I’ll never ascend higher. I would never be able to take my revenge and it would all be pointless anyway. Growing stronger just to take out Sephra, it has all become pointless as well. Fuck my life.)

Kazuki continued through the Realm and as he went he had to control his speed otherwise his movement threatened to tear the Realm apart.

(What reason is there for me to even have all of this power if not for it to be used against my enemies.)

For a moment, Kazuki wanted to leave the Realm. Open a rift, a tear in space, and enter another Realm somewhere far away. He didn’t though, he couldn’t bring himself to.

(I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself if something were to happen while I was gone. Even if Lin and Alutra are there, I can’t just leave.)

Kazuki wanted to get away but there were those he cared about. To leave them behind would be too painful. At the same time, he felt as if he was going insane. What did he live for all of this time if not to seek revenge?

(Even if I don’t hate her, I can still kill her…)

Even that though felt off. He clearly had good reason to kill her, but the thought of killing someone who was in another Realm entirely that was a prisoner and posed no threat again did not sit right. A bitterness filled Kazuki. So many people, so many voices had told him plenty of times to just let things go, bury it all in the past and move on.

Those that had died were gone and nothing could bring them back. The person he wished to destroy the most in all of the universe could no longer cause him or anyone he knew harm. By all rights, he should be able to move past this and just live for himself but again, this did not sit right.

(Wouldn’t all of their sacrifices be for naught. Granny Master fought with her all and saved me back on Earth. Brother sacrificed himself against the Vazul trying to take my soul and body. Old Tilly, Etora, and Glacious. If not for Etora and Glacious I would not have been able to enter the 7th stage and kill Fera once and for all. Glacious could have lived if he didn’t try to protect me. If Etora and Glacious left me alone, they would have had no reason to fight the Beast Kings and would not have been so weak when Fera attacked them.

(If I just let this go, how can any of them ever forgive me. Would that not be betraying their memory?)

Kazuki began to slow down as he thought of everyone who died before him. He came across a solar system devoid of any life. Floating above an empty world, Kazuki’s expression twisted and he punched at this dead world.

The force of his blow caused the world to explode and it was reduced into small particles. He of course held back, otherwise, there would be nothing left around him.

(Is my strength pointless, is my revenge pointless!?)

As Kazuki was lost in a mess of his own mind, he suddenly heard a small voice.

(Ka…zu..ki.)

Kazuki twisted around looking for the voice. No one knew he was here, no one. This was a fact but he clearly heard someone. Kazuki, already frustrated and at his wit’s end was fed up with all the bullshit. His aura stretched out in all directions covering nearly a billion miles all around but to his shock he felt and sensed no one.

This was similar to the Nevius situation. Someone was hiding somewhere. Thinking about Nevius again, Kazuki’s anger rose.

(COME OUT! OR I’ll DRAG YOUR ASS OUT!)

Kazuki’s ring suddenly flashed with purple light and the Gosechu box appeared in front of him. Kazuki was taken aback.

(Tha voice, it was the Gosechu box?)

The small box shook slightly before once again a voice entered Kazuki’s mind.

(ARC!)

Kazuki was confused for a moment before he recalled that was the name he had just given the box only a few minutes ago.

(Right, Arc, this was the name I picked. Are you telling me not to call you a box but this name instead.)

The box moved up and down awkwardly as if it were nodding.

(That’s right, you can understand me but I heard a voice just now. I thought you couldn’t communicate with me, was Nevius wrong.)

The box shook back and forth before a tiyn unidentifiable voice came through.

(N..not wrong, things ccch, changed. So…soul..stronger…can…he…hear me…now.)

Kazuki was bewildered. He had already taken a leap in terms of power but now a new benefit appeared. He could now hear Arc’s thoughts directly in his mind.

Kazuki found this to be rather interesting.

“I guess you think I’ve lost it. Destroying an entire planet in my frustration. Nevius said you chose me but I guess you probably think that choice was wrong now huh?”

Little arc shook side to side again.

(Nn..ot…wrong. Right…ch..oice. I…glad. conne..cted..to you.)

Kazuki sighed inwardly before holding out his palm to which arc landed seemingly happily in his hand.

(Even with me acting like a fool, and having such a childish outburst, you say I’m not the wrong choice. Were the ones you were with really that bad?)

Arc went silent. It was apparent that whatever happened before Arc was with Kazuki was filled with bad times.

Kazuki felt some pity for this…being. It seemed like it had a hard time and didn’t want to speak about it. Kazuki was used to such times and didn’t envy the bad. It wasn’t all bad though and Kazuki soon started to think about all of the good he’s experienced. All the good memories, all of the friendship and love.

Before Kazuki got too far into his nostalgia the box called out to him again.

(Hel..p…Arc.)

Kazuki remembered that Nevius said Arc had chosen him. Kazuki did not know for what purpose but if Arc needed help, Kazuki didn’t mind giving it. After all, if not for Arc activating and using its powers, Kazuki would have been completely dissolved and killed inside of the Miasma. Kazuki pushed away the negative thoughts and did his best to put on a good expression.

(Sure, you helped me already and saved my life. Tell me what you need and I’ll do my best to fulfill what it is you wish.)

Arc once more moved side to side.

(No..Arc..Hel..p..Kaz..uki.)

Kazuki couldn’t help but raise a brow.

(Hmm, you wish to help me. Last time you helped me, you helped to save my life but I’m not in any danger now so, I don’t require any help but thank you little one.)

Arc moved side to side once more.

(You..Mis..under..st..and. You…need…my..hel..p.)

Kazuki was lost but before he could respond, Arc’s body began to change shape. originally it was in the form of a cube but after it spoke it began folding around itself and opening and rearranging as it began to pulse with power. The very next moment the power of light, time, and space shot forward. this arrangement of the three elements divided perfectly into two beams of power and one pierced directly into Kazuki’s head while the other beam shot a few feet into space before it began to display something.

Kazuki could feel Arc accessing his memories and was about to stop but he once again heard Arc’s thoughts in his head.

(I…help.)

Kazuki’s memories flashed back to Earth, directly to the time his Granny master fought with a large monster that Sephra had sent after him. As the figth progressed, his Granny master was running ragged and was about to die. At the last moment, the beast pierced her chest with a claw. it was then that she reached forward and grabbed its claw, not allowing it to pull away and escape.

[“THIS IS YOUR END FOUL BEAST! KI MANIPULATION SEVEN FISTS OF DEATH!”]

Seven fists filled with explosive ki ripped into the monster’s body destroying its heart and then head almost instantly. A few breaths later, both the monster and Kazuki’s granny master died.

Seeing this memory again, Kazuki was heartbroken.

(Arc, why would you show me this again. I

Kazuki’s thoughts froze there as the scene continued. As Kazuki was mourning over her body, Arc’s power shone upon her body and you could see something begin to rise from her chest. It was her soul. Kazuki’s granny master’s soul had come out of her body and took a look at her surroundings. Barely a second later her soul recognized the situation and sighed.

(So I died.)
