Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 6
The light and images flashing from the golden compass faded and disappeared. Orberus then took the compass and simply tossed it at Kazuki’s feet as if it were no more than a piece of trash. Kazuki as well now felt a certain way about it and he left it on the floor.
“As everyone witnessed, I only helped the boy out a rare few times and the help was nothing that could change the tides. Kazuki did it all himself. So for him to achieve what he did, is it not far better than what you all have done? Not just him but Fera as well. Although she had a trove of help, and guidance from Sephra, for her to become a Demigod in a Lower Realm in less than 33 years, It’s not too bad. I’m sure everyone wants to know by now why I have brought these two here and bragged about them.”
Orberus looked over the crowd, excited to see their anticipation but many of them seemed more confused and there were even hints of concern. This annoyed Orberus greatly and he pointed a large-built man out from the crowd. The man had short black hair and a fierce gaze. Strapped to his back was a large double-headed axe made from a material that appeared to be gold.
“You, Taerus. Why the look of concern when I haven’t even mentioned why the two are here? Is there a problem young one?”
Taerus didn’t wish to say a word but he knew his lord’s temperament. If he wasn’t honest and Orberus detected a hint of a lie, it would be his ass on the line.
“Lord Orberus, my mind goes to strange places when I’m suddenly finding out how ferocious my distant cousins are. I just had a thought and it bothered me.”
Orberus stared at Taerus awaiting his so-called thought. Taerus swallowed hard and just said it.
“I don’t wish to read into things but it seems your intention may be to bring these two under your wing. After seeing young Kazuki’s memories and hearing what you’ve said, as well as the fact that you prevented them from killing each other. If this is the case, if this is what you are trying to do I have no problem with them joining the family but…”
Orberus glared at Taerus.
“But What?”
“My lord, the hatred between Kazuki and Fera is immeasurable. I myself have lived for thousands of years and yet have never hated someone with such fervor. I do not believe that on any level these two could ever get along. Because of this, the two would be at one another’s throats and would be plotting the death of the other. This type of negative passion, would it not do our family uncountable harm and divide us the longer their hatred manifest. This type of raw anger, it can not be quelled until one of them is dead.”
These words echoed in the throne room. There was obvious agreement from many of the other Gods but again none of them dared speak out. Orberus though laughed it all off.
*HAH*
“So that was your concern boy. Just that. That won’t be a problem in the slightest. As long as I am here, the two will bend the knee and do exactly as I say. If not, I will crush them beneath my feet just as I have crushed all those who have opposed my will. The two will not kill one another nor bring disharmony to the family as long as I am around. Are there any more concerns you wimps have or can I continue?”
No on said a thing and Orberus continued.
“Good. As young Taerus guessed, it is my intention to bring these two under me and finally join the family. Fera became a Demigod in just over three decades and Kazuki entered the Convergence stage in just under three decades. The two are gifted in their own ways. Whether they lied cheated or stole to reach their level does not matter in eyes of the Realms. What matters is power and a willingness to do whatever it takes to achieve such power. Because of this, I have acknowledged the two of them and they are to become a part of our family from this moment on. I will make one of them my heirs and they will carry on in my place when I decide to step down. Any objections?”
Everyone in the crowd was shocked. They had wondered what this was all about but for Orberus to straight-up say one of these two grandchildren would be the next ruler and inherited all that he holds. Several Gods went from curiosity and being on Kazuki’s side to now flipping and being completely against both him and Fera altogether.
Many Demigods were here as well, several of them were Kazuki’s distant cousins. Hearing that Kazuki or Fera would be the next heir, a vile look spread amongst them. In the end, though, no one opened their mouth. Well, there was one.
“Grandfather, may I speak?”
Kazuki was the only one to say anything which brought ridicule amongst the crowd and annoyance from even more of them. A young upstart thinks they have any place to speak in this situation. Even if it was about him, it still rubbed these Gods the wrong way.
Orberus was curious and nodded.
“You wish to say something, go ahead.”
Kazuki took a deep breath and calmed his nerves.
“Firstly I want to ask you just a few questions if grandfather doesn’t mind that is.”
“I already said speak whether I answer or not depends on my mood now hurry up.”
“I was just wondering, you said you brought me and Fera up here so we could join the family. The reason why you prevented us from killing one another, the reason you didn’t bring us up before. Do both of these things have to do with our worthiness in your eyes?”
“Of course. Why would I want someone useless under me? Before you, two were just children playing as children would. There are other reasons but later when I saw the overall potential I began to change my way of thinking. These two may still be children but their playground shrunk tremendously and they crushed it within a few decades. What would happen if these two were taught by me and let loose on a different playground. What destruction could they bring under my name? The thought alone was tempting enough to bring you both to me.”
Kazuki nodded before taking a small step closer to Fera and pointing at her.
“You have witnessed our battle and have seen our hatred and you still wish to bring both of us to your side?”
Orberus shook his head.
“By my side, no. Beneath me, serving as my pawn, absolutely.”
Fera’s soul shook in anger. She had wanted revenge upon Kazuki all this time and now she knew that had she actually come with the killing blow, there was a high chance Orberus would have stopped her. She hated Kazuki but being watched like this, being restricted in such a way and denied freedom, she hated that as well. Learning that she would now be forced to work under her grandfather side by side with Kazuki, Fera wished to rip her grandfather’s tongue out for speaking such words.
Kazuki inched a little closer to Fera.
“So, there are other reasons you didn’t step in before even though you knew I was in danger. My brother’s death, my Granny master, Danny, Tilly, and so on. You just watched me and those around me suffer. You, my grandfather, the person who is supposed to look out for me, love me unconditionally, support me, you did none of those things. You sat up here on your throne and let the world and its inhabitants scar me in unimaginable ways and now you expect me to simply become what, your servant. AM I A JOKE TO YOU!?”
Kazuki’s shout was almost deafening. Everyone in the throne room stared at him in shock. Even Orberus was taken aback but very swiftly that shock of his turned into anger.
“Boy, you dare shout at me!”
Kazuki quickly fell to his knees and apologized.
“Oh sorry about that I just kidding hehehe.”
Everyone was stunned. This was a joke, he was kidding. How could he test such hostile waters and then pretend it was all a joke. Is this boy mad?
These were the thoughts of many around the room. At the same time, they had seen not all but many of Kazuki’s memories through the compass and knew how bold he could be. All of their eyes turned to Orberus to see what his mood would be. If he were angry enough, they knew even they would not be let off. They just hoped he wouldn’t be too pissed.
To their surprise, Orberus was actually smiling until his lips finally parted and he started laughing almost uncontrollably.
*BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA*
“Boy, you really are something. I genuinely thought you were serious and already wondered how many years I would have to leave you in prison with Lin to adjust that attitude. Good too good. So now that your joke is out of the way, I assume this means you will follow me without trouble right?”
Orberus was now in a great mood. Kazuki as well was smiling from ear to ear and nodding.
“Of course but I do have one more question if you don’t mind grandpa.”
Orberus smiled back.
“Ha grandpa, that sounds good coming from you, unlike my other grandchildren. Go ahead ask this last question and then we can discuss things seriously.”
“Grandfather, I was just curious about those magical chains that came from the pillars. They wrapped me up when I released killing intent and then released me when I calmed down. Is that how they work and is there anything else in here that does something similar?”
“The chains? You’ve experienced them once and you can already see through them. Yeah, they work just how you described them. They’re there so no one can kill inside here. Once your intent to kill comes out, those chains are already around you in no time. As for the other part, no theirs nothing else in this place that works like that. Why do you ask though?”
Kazuki continued to smile before slowly standing back up. He reached forward and grabbed Fera’s soul before anyone noticed.
“The reason of course is because of this.”
Kazuki’s ki circulated through his heart and mind and kept him calm and tranquil like a frozen lake. He released zero killing intent. What he did release however was the full might of his aura. With Fera’s soul already weakened and him touching her. His aura blasted through her soul in an instant and before Fera could even react, her soul was torn to shreds in an instant. She was gone.
Silence fell over the throne room as everyone was stunned by what they had just witnessed.
