Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 73

Eventually, things quieted down. Detra returned from space, she had finished repairing all of the tears this swift battle had caused. As soon as she returned, she was still feeling a certain type of way and went straight to Kazuki.

“Kazuki…”

“Yeah, what is it?”

Detra was still dumbfounded about the fight in itself. She knew the consequences of beings at the 7th stage throwing fists. She knew what would happen to the realm. It was simply something that could not handle such great powers being unleashed here and there, yet not only did Kazuki and everyone else fight just moments ago but two powerful beings exchanged blows with Divine Soul weapons.

The power she felt coming from these two weapons was beyond her scope of knowledge. With just a wave of these weapons, she could feel the entire realm tremoring on the verge of destruction. Even with her and Asuna helping to prevent the realm’s destruction with their power over space, when it came to this Divine energy, she knew there was nothing she could do. She knew and understood this, but Kazuki, on the other hand, told his aunt to go all out, and somehow the realm was not crushed under both her and the smoke creatures might. What she did not know was how this was possible.

“Kazuki…How are we still alive? What did you do?”

Everyone quieted down and all eyes focused on the two.

“Right, I’m sure everyone is curious. You all want to know how we’re still living even after that much divine energy was being expelled. Gather round children and have a listen to Papa.”

Shin and a few others laughed while everyone curiously got closer to him.

Kazuki opened his storage ring and the smoke creature’s Divine Soul weapon fell out and landed with a bang on the table. If Kazuki didn’t control its weight, the weapon would have easily broken through not only the table but potentially this tiny world as well.

The tiny furball jumped off of ALutra’s shoulder toward the weapon but before it could get close, Alutra snatched it out of the air.

“Nows not the time to play. Listen to your big cousin and be good ok.”

The tiny monkey hamster squeaked in protest but Alutra gave it a scolding look and it went quiet in her hand. Clearly, it was pouting.

The moment the large ring-type weapon fell out, everyone felt a dense power coming from it. The energy was so incredibly pure and dense that it actually made it slightly difficult for them to breathe. This fact caused a bit of shock. If it was already difficult for them to breathe and they were all at the 7th stage, they could imagine what would follow if a 6th stage being or below came near it. Death was the only thing awaiting such weak creatures.

They all couldn’t help but take half a step back in retreat. Each one could feel their skin start to prickle as if they were being burned a little. This weapon was dangerous, beyond dangerous. Now they were even more curious as to what Kazuki had done.

Kazuki raised a slight finger and flicked the weapon. The moment he did, his finger broke on contact, twisting disgustingly. This was off-putting, to say the least, but with Kazuki’s regenerative properties, his finger recovered almost instantly.

“As you can see, just a small impact between me and this weapon will only leave me with harm. The moment that smoke bastard brought this weapon out both I and Danny began to analyze it right away. Due to our circumstances, the two of us are used to feeling such overwhelming power. He and I have been in the presence of powerful beings too many times to count. Because of this, we have learned to observe where others would cower.”

Danny gave a nod before he spoke up.

“I could feel a soul fragment within the weapon the very second it was exposed to us. As soon as it came out and he threw I noticed the connection between the smoke creature and the weapon itself. even though the soul came from the same source, they are basically two separate entities or rather they are part of one another but not. That might not make much sense, so I’ll add this. Imagine you have a clone of yourself. Even though it is you, its thoughts may not match yours at all times right. The same applies to the soul weapon. While the smoke creature is thinking one thing, the soul fragment within the weapon has its own thoughts. Simply put there is a connection between the two but this connection can be interrupted.”

Kazuki raised his finger once more, and this time a gust of wind began to swirl and gather around his fingertip and the sound of the wind began to howl with a fierceness. Kazuki once again flicked his finger and hit the soul weapon. Everyone expected the nasty finger break once more but this time the impact caused the weapon to slide about a half-inch forward and Kauzki’s finger only became bruised.

This surprised everyone.

“What I used just now was one of the sword forms my brother created. As you all know what lies in the sword forms is a way to sever energy. Unfortunately, these sword forms are not strong enough to sever divine energy but as you just witnessed, they can help deflect this energy, at a cost.”

The howling wind stopped and the power around Kazuki’s finger dissipated and his bruised finger darkened to an ugly purple as blood started to seep through the many pores on his finger. Once more he healed almost instantly.

“By redirecting the intense power coming from the soul weapons back into them, we weakened them drastically. Danny and I saw an opportunity in the connection between the soul weapon and the smoke creature. If we could interfere with it, the smoke creature controlling the soul weapon would have a delay in its response to the weapon. Using one’s will or mind to control something, especially a weapon must be precise and be timed perfectly. If not, mistakes can happen one after another. By interfering with this connection, the smoke creature no doubt became confused and probably through his weapon was being slowed or something else. In actuality, the fragment in the weapon was being thrown off by receiving its own attack back.”

Alutra thought this was brilliant but she didn’t get something. She promptly raised her hand as if Kazuki and Danny were teachers. Mei couldn’t help but laugh but Alutra didn’t understand why this was funny as she was seriously raising her hand.

“Alutra you don’t have to raise your hand, you’re my aunt. If you have a question for me just ask.”

Alutra nodded and put her hand down before asking.

“So all of that lightning that came around contained both yours and Danny’s sword forms. I get that but I have two questions, why did you two leave to make that lightning, and even if you reflected the smoke creature’s divine power back into it, that doesn’t explain what happened to my divine energy. Where did it go, why did you tell me to go all out and and

“Alutra, that is more than two questions. I’ll start with the first. We left for a simple reason. If the smoke creature all of the sudden saw the two of us start to create millions of bolts of lightning right in front of it, do you think it would just silently sit still? I and Danny went opposite ways far far away so that we could create enough lighting so that we could surround the smoke bastard in one go. This required a substantial amount. The moment we returned, we brought all of the lightning with us and completely surrounded the two of you on the spot. After that, Detra and Asuna closed off the surrounding space so the smoke bastard couldn’t teleport away. It still almost did at the end, when it tried to enter a tear in space but I already saw through it and placed a rift directly in the tear the very second it tried to leave. Its panic only led to its death sooner. As for your divine energy, I and Danny used our lightning to send it back, not to you but also to this ring-type soul weapon.”

Alutra’s eyes went wide.

“You reflected its own power back into it along with mine. So it took on double the damage. That must have caused the connection between the smoke creature and its soul weapon to become further delayed. No wonder why it felt like it became much slower toward the end and the fight felt increasingly easier.”

Danny and Kazuki nodded simultaneously.

Alutra could still barely believe it.

“For that lightning to be able to deflect it with such ease, just how powerful is it Kazuki.”

Kazuki shook his head.

“You’re mistaken, Alutra. Yes, to creatures at the 7th stage and below, this lightning is beyond deadly, but to divine energy and Divine Soul weapons, it barely has any effect. That was why, the moment the smoke creatures Divine Soul weapon entered the lightning more than a hundred thousand bolts were destroyed instantly. Not only were they destroyed, but that was just the initial slowing phase. After the first hundred thousand, it took nearly a million bolts to just change its trajectory and another million to send that divine energy flying back and into the soul weapon. Had the fight been a drawn-out one, I and Danny would not have been enough to replace all of that lightning. It would have been depleted faster than we could replenish it. In that case, our plan would have failed, and the fight would once more come down to you two holding back your full powers while exchanging blows that would not destroy the Realm. That could lead to a fight that could last indefinitely.”

Danny shrugged.

“Well, at least until you and I gathered more lightning. We just brought what we could make in that short amount of time. If we used both our power along with talismans or other magic tools, we could have made ten times or maybe even a hundred times more but we simply did not have time to waste. In the end, the biggest factor in our victory comes down to the fact that that smoke creature was not a Demigod and by the looks of it, that smoke creature also did not have a great connection with its weapon. Had it been more experienced, had it been a demigod, this victory would not have gone to us. A demigod would have noticed its own power being reflected back right away, but because that smoke creature wasn’t a demigod, the pure dense divine energy is not something it could recognize properly. With Alutra also going all out, it had no time to understand its situation properly and sense its surroundings properly leading it to a panicked state. We got lucky on this one.”
