Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 78
The next day, things were happening at breakneck speed.
Kazuki, Detra, old Sid, and Danny went over the plans for the future. Sid already had the plans for the cosmic crystal tool nearly complete and would soon start construction. Danny as well had his own ideas and submitted a few designs that would help them all once built. Piggybacking off of the cosmic crystals, Danny’s Golem’s would use them as energy sources.
Just like the cosmic crystals, this was not information any of them wanted to get out so when the time for production came, and the plans and blueprints were solidified, Kazuki would remove the memories of how these Golem’s were made along with any and all knowledge pertaining to their creation and operation.
The only ones who would actually know were Kazuki himself, along with Danny of course, and Sid. Sid though would not have full knowledge but only a few pieces here and there. This way the most important details would be left to only those Kazuki knew he could fully trust.
From here, things should have been good going forth but there was an outside problem that popped up right away.
Kazuki had to make a trip to the Patar desert.
A once great land of dry sand and very little life was now a lush garden of vegetation and forests with a small city in the center. The land now looked like a paradise and resembled a natural habitat to life. Crystal clear rivers flowed almost endlessly throughout and there were rich mountains and fresh clean air. Zephris had turned this place into his own personal utopia.
Landing inside his city, Zephris didn’t even bother to greet Kazuki. Kauzki though didn’t mind, he knew how Zephris was. The man was obsessed with only two things. His alchemy. Trying to create the perfect being, whatever was in his mind that was perfection, that is what he sought. The second thing he obsessed over, well that was the reason Kazuki had come today.
Reaching one of Zephris’s labs, Kazuki saw the man hunched over, observing tiyn cells in something resembling a petri dish. Before Kazuki could say anything, Zephris didn’t even bother to look up as he spoke.
“Amazing, how small my mind used to be. Back on Earth life is based on carbon. Same here but there is something extra. Tell me Kazuki, do you know what that little extra thing is?”
Kazuki didn’t know where he was going with this but decided to indulge him.
“It seems you already know the answer, so why not just say.”
Zephris poured something into the dish and the cells within suddenly expanded until the dish itself could hold no more and cracked. Zephris then committed this scene to memory before turning around in his chair.
“Magic. The elements themselves. From your memories, there is almost no magic on that world called Earth. Here Magic is in nearly all things. It is a source of energy that can fill us with life and yet back in that unknown Realm, magical energy is so faint, that no one practices magic. How can that be I asked myself?”
Kazuki said nothing. He as well found this to be odd, to say the least. Science clearly existed in that Realm and so to did it exist here both places had magic but one much less so. When it came to life, science, and magic, Kazuki himself had trouble plugging them all together to see how they fit.
“I don’t know Zephris, clearly you do though so inform me.”
Zephris shook his head.
“I…I am lost as well. When the Gosechgu box tapped into our memories and we shared them with one another, you must have been beyond bored looking into the horrors of my mind. I on the other hand had never been more excited in my life. So many things, so many mysterious, and the number one mystery is how life, this science, and magic fit together. I have been trying to make the perfect creature for as long as I picked up alchemy. Following in my previous master’s footsteps, I hoped to make something truly incredible. Something that can not be broken, can not be destroyed, lives for an eternity and needs no nourishment, no air, no light, no darkness, no magic. True perfection. The more I think about it though, the more I dive into your basic knowledge of science and both our knowledge on the subject of magic, I am opened to more paths than I can count. Everything I learn, the deeper and deeper I go, something just doesn’t seem to add up. Tracing everything to the source to find how it all works, I find a problem that I can not explain. The source of all life, the source of magic, where did it come from. What created this source and then if it was in fact created what great being created it and then what created that being. A never-ending retracement.”
“What does that have to do
“Kazuki do you really not see. There is a beginning to all of this, to all of us. The power, the Realms, everything above, and everything below. The source. I can not create the perfect being, the perfect body without knowing the source of all THINGS!”
Zephris then tossed over his workstation, causing everything on top of it to come crashing to the floor, breaking and scattering his things all over.
…
A strange silence followed.
Kazuki did not come here for this but he could see this so-called source problem was a major problem for Zephris.
“Zephris, do you know why I came here today.”
…
Zephris didn’t answer and instead snapped his fingers. The moment he did this, a drawer along the wall opened on its own and a tiny object flew out and floated over and into Zephris’s hand. It was a tiny ordinary-looking crystal orb no bigger than a man’s fist but this crystal was not what drew Kazuki here but rather what was held within said orb.
*Tok tok tok*
A tiny banging from within the orb.
“You came because of this nuisance correct?”
Inside the orb a tiny being floated inside and banged repeatedly on the inside of the crystal. It was Torzz, Detra’s oldest son.
*Haa*
“When did you capture him and what is it you plan to do to him?”
Zephris shrugged. A look of contempt on his face.
“I took him last night. You would have noticed but you were too busy, heh. As to what I am going to do with him, his fate has yet to be decided. Should I hold him imprisoned for the rest of his immortal life? Should I commit the same torture I endured for all those years on this foul Titan? Ripping his soul up into tiny pieces until his mind is just a scrap only to piece it back together and rip it all up again. You saw my memories. Because of Sephra, because of Torzz, I was made to suffer. I lost my whole family, I lost myself and became a monster, forced to eat every living thing in my path with no control over what I had become. Forced to listen to the cries of millions of innocent creatures as I absorbed some of their soul fragments. Kazuki you know all of this, you have seen it all already. In this world, there is no one who knows more about me, who experienced what I have to such a degree, no one except you. Tell me Kazuki, what do you think I should do? What do you think I should do to the person who took so much away and replaced it with endless pain and agony?”
Kazuki’s expression changed and he spoke honestly and yet there was a murderous cold air to him.
“To the ones responsible, I would do everything in my power to destroy them. Even if it took me a million years, even if I had to slaughter a billion and soak in an ocean of blood, there would be nothing that would stop me.”
Torzz heard this and he trembled inside the orb. He knew Kazuki could be ruthless but saying all this was basically giving Zephris the go-ahead.
Torzz shouted with all of his might but only a tiny voice escaped the orb.
“How can you say this Kazuki. You and my mother are allies. To kill me would end that alliance, to end me would only jeopardize everything you’ve built. You can’t do this to me! PLEASE!”
Zephris snapped and roared at Torzz.
“SILENCEEEEEE!”
The entire city shook from this shout and Torzz was dealt a direct blow to his soul. The pressure Zephris released forced Torzz to cower into a corner like a tiny baby dear.
Kazuki chuckled.
“Torzz, you just don’t know when to shut the fuck up. As you said I am your mother’s ally. Do you understand…I am her ally, not yours. When she and I formed this bond, it was on the understanding that I would not harm you or Zetrazz. I am not to kill you. This little rule though does not apply to Zephris. He never agreed to not capture you or kill you or anything else. At the same time, Zephris knows that by doing this, Detra will wish for her son’s safety and will fight to get it. If she fights and Zepgris fights, this might force my hand and I might have to interfere. In this way, you could say Zephris is using me.”
Kazuki began releasing his own aura as he glared at Zephris.
“Zephris, as you know, I do not like being used.”
