Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 8
Orberus held up his hand.
“So be it daughter.”
Both Alutra and Kazuki were dragged toward this burning portal however before they were sucked in, Unexpectedly it was Daisius who called out.
“Master.”
This single word caused Orberus to pause. For even his most trusted to speak at this moment. Orberus was more than annoyed but he stopped momentarily.
“Little brother. You know how I dislike being interrupted but since it’s you, my most loyal servant, speak.”
Daisius pointed at Kazuki, a nasty tone as he spoke.
“Master, you know how I feel about Kazuki. From the moment of his birth by that mortal whore and your firstborn son, it was a connection that has disgraced us all and harmed our family’s reputation since the beginning. However, even if I loathe the boy, he still carries your blood. Sending one of our own to one of the Hell Realms, would that not disgrace us even further? Would ti not personally disgrace you my lord?”
Orberus tilted his head slightly.
“You think my reputation will be tarnished?”
Daisius nodded.
“Everyone in the surrounding Star Paths has heard rumors of your firstborn and the mortal wench that tricked him into making this creature before us long ago. When others find out that you brought him here after so long and then in a heated discussion you threw him away and sentenced him to death, would it not give pause to all of our future relationships and alliances. They would question a being who would destroy their own family over arguments. Not only that when they find out things escalated because of Fera and they learn of what caused this all, but our allies and enemies alike would also laugh at us, laugh at you my lord.”
“My enemies are of no concern for now. Rebellious weak Gods who have to gather on the abandoned worlds. No more than loose weeds that will scatter with the slightest rough wind.”
Orberus went quiet for a moment as he took in Daisius’s words.
“My allies though…If they start mocking me they would see me as weak and it would only be a matter of time before those cowards untie to destroy me. Sending Kazuki to that Hell Realm is a death sentence and it is also a chance for those who are supposed to be on my side to know that I am unmerciful to even my own blood. If I show no mercy and they find out what started all of this, it could lead to them undermining me. After all, they might even judge this as being too bullheaded. Everyone knows the bulls are the first to be sacrificed in times of doubt.”
Daisius nodded along.
“Master, Kazuki is completely unwilling. We have all seen a fair amount of his memories. Through everything, he has been stubborn for the better as well for worse. His mind will not change and instead this will only build resent. Do you want someone who will be building both resentments as well as strength? At the strange growth rate of his would he not become a Demigod within a few years’ time and a true God within a few thousand. Why would he not stab you in the back later? What would prevent it? You say you want him as your heir but please look around this room. All of Kazuki’s peers, would they not hate some new greenhorn coming in and taking what’s rightfully theirs. This leads to more resentment from them which will absolutely lead to infighting which in turn splits the family in such a way that weakens us until we eventually shatter from all the forces coming down on us from both the outside as well as within.”
Kazuki was shocked that this old man who hated his guts like no tomorrow was putting up good arguments as to why he shouldn’t be sent to his death.
Orberus looked over the crowd and looked at all of the young Demigods who were present. All of them were Kauzki’s cousins in some form or another. Most of them were plenty capable and wildly talented but Orberus didn’t want them. Still, every point his younger brother Daisius made was not wrong.
In a loud booming voice, Orberus shouted.
“Everyone out now!”
The moment his voice fell, no one hesitated. In an instant they all vanished at a speed Kazuki could not register. The only ones who remained were of course Orberus and Kazuki, along with Daisius and Alutra.
Orberus glared at her.
“Did I not just tell you to leave? Have you really defied me twice in a single day? It seems as if my grip has been far too lacking and I need to tighten it to choke out the rebellious ways you have continued to show.”
Alutra stood in front of Kazuki and didn’t move an inch.
“Kazuki is brothers one and only child. I won’t leave from here until I know big brothers legacy is safe. Punish me if you want but I’m not moving.”
“Master, do you see. He’s only been here a short time but already the unexpected is happening. Never before would Alutra be this pattinate unless it was for a ma
“DO NOT FINISH THOSE WORDS LITTLE BROTHER OR THEY WILL BE YOUR LAST!”
Daisius immediately swallowed what he was going to say and instead apologized.
“Forgive me, my lord.”
Orberus looked at Alutra dead in the eyes before he grew even more annoyed and angry.
“Daisius, what is it you suggest I do?”
“Sever all ties with him. Disown him outright. Even if Kazuki was willing, even if he accepted and followed you like a dog on a leash his blood is impure and others would surely not accept it.”
“Others, aren’t you just speaking of yourself?”
Daisius promptly shook his head.
“There are more than a few who have voiced their concern to me.”
“And not to me!”
“Master if you wish me to tell you who it is I will but first should we not deal with this.”
Orberus nodded.
“Continue.”
“Master, right now, Kazuki has no reason to be enemies with anyone here and things can be buried here and now. Although you did not interfere and help him, he was not part of the family then. All the way until now, you two are still strangers and neither owes the other a thing in life. If anything Kazuki should really only hold a grudge against Sephra because she was the one who was behind it all. She’s the reason his father and mother are no more, not you. I suggest we send him back to that tiny planet in the Lower Realm. Let him remain there in that small universe. It will show our allies that even in a rage you can still put such things aside and do what needs to be done. Our family doesn’t take another hit to our reputation like the first time and we can still carry on as we have been. This is for the better of our family.”
Orberus nodded but his following words were anything but agreement.
“What you are saying isn’t wrong little brother but I’ve already said I would toss him into the eternal fires. If I don’t do it, then I’ll be considered a liar, and my reputation would take a hit anyway, wouldn’t it?”
Daisius was at a loss for words for a moment before he agreed.
“Yes my lord, you are correct.”
Orberus became quiet for a moment and didn’t make a single move as if he was waiting for something. It was then that Kazuki took a step in front of ALutra and spoke.
“What is it that you really want from me grandfather?”
Daisius’s brows rose and Alutra was stunned.
“Kazuki don’t! Father will seriously kill you if you continue!”
She tried to pull Kazuki back but Orberus restricted her movements and he stood up. Slowly he brought himself directly in front of Kazuki. His eyes glowing.
“Little boy, I saw how cocky you can be in the face of death but all those times, everything you’ve suffered, none of it can compare to what I will do to you.”
Kazuki was unafraid. Not because he didn’t believe his grandfather but rather because he noticed a few things about him.
(This God acts like a tyrant, even going so far as to have his little brother refer to him as master or lord. Not only that but he cares a lot about reputation and face. He’s the strongest here among all of the Gods yet he needs allies. He controls hundreds of worlds but he is in an entire universe. After learning many things back on Earth one thing that shocked me was finding out that a universe contains quintillion upon quintillion of planets and beyond. There are more planets than every grain of sand on every beach combined. The number is so astronomical that it is hard to fathom but Orberus claims to only be in control of only a few hundred. That tells me that there are bigger fish in the so-called sea of this universe. For him to need allies and for there to be other Gods that control more worlds, it means there are more Gods out there with more strength, more power. So then why would he need me? A weak 7th stage to supposedly take over for him. It became obvious when he hid many of my memories from everyone else.)
“Grandfather, are you really going to treat me as if I’m a fool. After seeing how I act and what I can do. Surely you must know I’ve put it together by now. Surely you know that I know the real reason you have brought me up here.”
Daisius and Alutra were both confused.
“Should I just say it outright in front of them or will you finally stop with this act, grandfather?”
The anger and power surging around Orberus swiftly retreated and a large devious smile covered his face.
“Clever, far too clever. Here I thought I was doing a good job hiding it but my blood doesn’t flow through you for nothing little Kazuki.”
