Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 80
“Why…Why didn’t you put a stop to it?”
The question was simple, but it left a hollow feeling in the pit of one’s stomach.
A silence lingered in the air, which only pissed Zephris off.
“ANSWER ME!”
The orb housing Torzz glowed with a blinding light as several inscriptions lit up. Strikes directed at his soul started causing him agonizing pain and he screamed out in agony.
*AHHHHHHHHHH!*
For there to be something in this world that can actually drive a Titan to cry out, showed the severity and danger that Torzz was under. His life was literally in the palm of Zephris’s hand. If he wanted to, a single thought would be the only requirement to kill a Titan.
“STOP! I’LL TALK! JUST STOP!”
Detra’s anger was overwhelmed by her panic and concern for her son’s life.
The light around the orb faded and Torzz was left shaking like a scared little lamb left on the chopping block.
“So you’ll finally answer. Speak, why did you let all of this continue to play out? You who had the power, you who could see everything taking place in this world, you who supposedly were guarding this planet. Why did you do nothing as your son and Sephra ravaged everything in their path?”
Detra closed her eyes as she recalled her past failures. Slowly, she opened them and looked directly into Zephris’s own before she tried to explain.
“I…I wanted to but I was afraid.”
Zephris and Kazuki both found that hard to believe. Even if she wasn’t strong enough to fight on equal footing with Sephra, she could still retain her life.
Zephris’s eyes narrowed and his brows furrowed, as he was utterly unconvinced.
“You, Afraid. Afraid of what?”
Taking a calming deep breath, Detra began to lay it all out.
“Kazuki knows of this but you may be unaware Zephris but Sephra’s background is not simple. Her family holds a good deal of power in a corner of one of the three Higher Realms. I don’t know where in particular but I have heard a few things from my husband long ago. My husband is a God, and he too comes from a certain family with strength. My husband’s name is Etrix and his family name is Seviathan. His family and their power aren’t the largest but they hold enough sway in a certain part of one of the three Higher Realms. Sephra’s family is more powerful but from how my husband described it, were his family to face theirs, there would be substantial losses on both sides. Still, he says his family is largely neutral.”
Zephris was already becoming annoyed.
“Are you telling me all of this shit is due to politics!?”
Detra swallowed hard.
“You don’t understand. My husband disappeared and we were left without a shield. If I continued to clash with Sephra and she said anything to her family, they could then cause trouble for my husband and his family. Once that happens, he would hate me, and then he would never return. I couldn’t…I had to step away. Otherwise, I would never see my husband again. I did warn Sephra, though. I told her not to cross the line. If she were to ever harm my sons or destroy this world, then I would no longer hold anything back. Even if I couldn’t beat her, I would make sure she would live to regret her actions.”
Zephris was at a loss for words.
(All this time she could have done something but because of her fake fucking husband, so many were made to suffer. My mind and soul were tortured for so many cruel years and all of it was just for this little reason.)
Zephris started to grow angry once more before he couldn’t help but laugh at how ridiculous all of this was.
*Heh hehe Hehehahaheheha!*
He held his face in his hand before slowly wiping his maddening smile away, replacing it with a cold expression.
“So you did nothing because you thought your husband’s family would be troubled and your husband would hate you? Did you really just say that? Did those words really fall out of your mouth as if that was a real explanation?”
“It’s the truth. The same basically applied to Fera as well but we all saw her devolve. She turned on Torzz and also put Zetrazz’s life in danger, along with the world. I…I had to put an end to things at that point.”
Zephris shook his head.
“What do you want? A fucking prize. You waited how many years to make a move, and far too many suffered in between. You are no hero but instead a curse. Do you understand how stupid you sound? Now I wonder if your husband actually vanished or if he could see how dull you were and decided to simply leave all on his own.”
Detra’s eyes widened in shock, and her hands began to shake with rage, but Zephris quickly held up the small crystal orb, and she held herself back.
“Does any of it make sense? Are you really so naive? Your husband was a Demigod here, but in the Higher Realm he was a god, and he had a decent background. Do you really think he’s lost? Do you really not see? He left you, and he left you to raise his two vile sons because he knew you would do it without question. I bet he knew he could just leave, and in your foolishness, you would watch over this world like a good little dog, or rather, a good little bitch, waiting for her master’s return. Were you two even really married, or was that fake, along with the love you two held for one another?”
Something inside Detra snapped, and the world shook. She lunged forward as if she were filled with insanity.
“YOU BASTARD!”
Zephris smiled like a demonic being, and he prepared to crush the orb and Torzz along with it.
Kazuki, though, had seen enough, and with a thought, his aura exploded outward.
His aura folded more than a thousand times and came crashing down on both of them. He held back where he needed to, but he instantly immobilized both of them. At the same time, his aura invaded Zephris’s soul world along with the crystal orb and severed the connection between Zephris and the orb.
With a thought, the orb flew out of Zephris’s grip and arrived safely in front of Kazuki as it hovered silently above his palm. Kazuki briefly studied the inscriptions, marveling at their wonders, before committing them all to memory before he turned his attention back to Detra and Zephris who were lying face down on the ground.
Kazuki curled his finger, and the two flipped upward and were suspended in mid-air. The two were left in absolute shock as they found themselves completely cut off from their own magic power as well as their auras. Kazuki had simply entered their soul worlds and covered both their cores along with their soul trees in a layer of his own aura. In this way, the two became helpless and under his thumb, ready to be crushed at any given moment.
Had they been near his level in terms of the strength of their souls or even stronger than him, then of course he wouldn’t have been able to do this, but Kazuki was well above them. His soul was already more powerful than theirs, and with the added ability to be able to fold his aura into multiple layers, it only strengthened his power many times over. He could have also used aura strengthening to increase the power of his aura by several more folds, but it was obvious at this point who reigned supreme. Anything more would just be excessive and unnecessary.
The two were still shocked by this overwhelming force, but Detra was happy that Kazuki had taken control. It meant her son would be safe. On the other hand, Zephris was enraged, thinking Kazuki had betrayed him, but things were not so simple.
Kazuki reduced the power of his aura just enough to allow them to speak, and Detra was the first.
“Kazuki, I…I thank you for your goodwill. I will never forget this.”
“Kazuki! So you really are a bastard. After hearing her reasoning, are you really going to deny me my revenge?”
Kazuki shook his head.
“There is a clear misunderstanding here. I have no intention of stopping you from taking your revenge, Zephris.”
Torzz inside the orb became frightened by these words. Detra, too, didn’t understand.
“Kazuki, please, I am your ally. He’s my son. Anything! I’ll do anything; just please don’t let my son die. He’s sorry; he’s suffered enough, and and.”
Detra broke down and began to cry. She thought at one point she could give up her sons. She thought she could put them away in her heart and abandon them, but her motherly instincts roared within her. How could she just watch as her son was killed? How could she just stand by and do nothing?
Kazuki shook his head.
“That feeling you are experiencing, that is just a small taste of what both I and Zephris have gone through. In the end, your son still lives, while both I and Zephris have suffered great losses. Detra, tell me, what does it feel like?”
