Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 88
Kazuki was now curious. He never really had thoughts of his actual father. He saw Lin as a real father after all of these years. As a matter of fact, when he found out that Orberus was his grandfather and therefore Lin was his real uncle, this made him extremely happy. This meant he had a real blood connection with Lin and they were bond literally ran blood deep.
With that aside, hearing that Sephra may have had something to do with him being abandoned as a child, Kazuki began to wonder what actually happened.
“While father had his eye on this Realm, I had a few tools placed around here and there as well. She became cocky and accidentally let it slip. Afterward, I took the little evidence I had and showed father who then confronted Sephra. Sephra hid nothing and even smiled while she told us what she had done and why.”
“What she did? You’re saying she’s the reason why I don’t have parents. She killed them?”
Lin nodded.
“Yes. Sephra killed both your mother and my brother, your real father.”
Lin began to tremble after he said this.
“WHAT!”
A sudden shout surprised both Kazuki and Lin. The light around them began to bend and change shape revealing Alutra who was hidden. She had used magic to camouflage herself and she had erased her presence so that Kazuki couldn’t sense her at all.
She grabbed Lin by the shoulders in anger.
“Is it true! Sephra really is the one responsible for brothers death!?”
Lin nodded.
“I wanted to tell you Alutra, I wanted to tell everyone in the family but father made me keep quiet. If I said anything, he threatened to harm Kazuki. I realize now that was a lie but at the time, I believed it to be true. In return for my silence, he said he would look after Kazuki and keep him safe on Earth. Again, I naively believed in him. In the end, he did the exact opposite and guided you back to Gordonia. Father went to Sephra’s family and showed them everything and they arranged for him to keep Sephra as his prisoner and hostage indefinitely. Since Sephra was married to me, from an outside perspective this would not look like a hostage situation and instead would appear to be a wife living with her husband’s family. In actuality, it was a hidden threat to make Sephra’s family not cross ours.”
Alutra couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She had to sit down and little Kosaru who was with her could sense that she was upset and tried to comfort her.
“How could this be. Father never said how big brother died. I always thought it was an accident but to think it was Sephra. She kept it hidden from me, from all of us. Only you three knew the truth this whole time and after killing big brother and his wife, after killing your adopted son and almost killing Kazuki, her punishment is she has to live in our palace. What cruelty is this?”
Lin shook his head.
“Uncle Daisius knew as well. He was the one that did not want her punishment to be more than what it is. He claims it was to protect our reputation but I suspect there is something more. After all, it would not be our reputation that was harmed over this but rather Sephra and her clan.”
Something felt off, Kazuki could feel it.
“Gods value their reputation this highly that they would let another God murder one of their family members and keep it hush-hush. From what I’ve observed of Orberus, this is not how he acts. Knowing him he must have gotten something out of it right?”
“Son, you are forgetting how father does things. For a member of the family, Orberus would not let something such as that stand but at the time, Kazuki, your father was no longer a member of our family. In Orberus’s eyes, Genzuko was no more than a stranger. That’s how it was, that’s how father said it should be.”
(Genzuko?)
“My father’s name was Genzuko?”
Lin nodded.
“In order for this to make sense, take a look for yourself and see what took place. When father confronted Sephra and she admitted to everything, Father personally searched her soul and forced most of her memories surrounding these incidents out into the light of day.”
“Most of the memories. Are you saying Orberus could not get all of her memories even though he is stronger than her?”
Lin was about to explain but Alutra interrupted him first.
“Kazuki, while it’s true that Orberus is much stronger than Sephra, that is only in terms of physical strength and Divine energy. There are other factors. Sephra’s family uses a special Soul weapon. A technique that increases the strength of their souls to a certain degree. This technique has been passed down through their family for who knows how long. With this technique that makes their soul weapon stronger in certain aspects. There’s no doubt she could hide the memories she wishes and only allow outsiders to see a few things here and there.”
“Alutra is correct. Not only does Sephra and her family have soul weapons with this special technique that helps protect their soul, but the fact also remains that Sephra is a full-fledged God. To decipher anything from a God’s soul, even if the one taking a look is another God, it is incredibly difficult to see anything at all. The fact that Orberus could look in her soul and extract anything is already a major feat. Still, what I saw that day, I will never forget. The evil she committed, you must see it with your own eyes.”
Kazuki…now wanted to know the truth. He had denied himself this long and thought it was of no concern but knowing that Sephra was behind it, something within him burned. He had to see it now. Kazuki and Alutra both took a step forward and placed a hand on either shoulder of Lin. Just before they sent their aura into his soul world, Lin warned Kazuki.
“What you see, it will hurt. I know you said before that this is nothing to you, I know you have no memory of your father or mother and with it, you feel no connection but I tell you this now, there is always a connection. Even if you deny it, even if you bury it deep down inside, it is still there.”
Kazuki trusted his father’s words and prepared himself. The very next moment, his aura and Alutra’s both passed into Lin’s soul world, and then together the three touched upon his soul tree.
Immediately, a flood of memories came flowing through. With it, Lin spoke.
The three were suddenly in a wide-open courtyard. Standing in the courtyard was a bunch of children of varying ages. A small girl called out.
“Brother, my turn my turn.”
In the sky, a tall figure was flying on a magic sword. The moment the small child called out to him, the figure landed in front of her and smiled.
“Alutra, how many times are you going to pester me for a ride?”
The small girl was Alutra and the tall handsome figure was Kazuki’s father, Genzuko. The man looked nearly identical to Kazuki besides the eyes or rather Kazuki looked almost exactly like him. A golden compass hung neatly around his neck.
Present-day Alutra watched as her older brother picked her younger self up and carried her into the sky, flying high and fast just as she wished. This was a fond memory she had of him.
Lin pointed at all of the smiling kids as well as several others watching from afar.
(Kazuki, everywhere you look everyone loved your father. He was charismatic and kind to you no matter who you were. Not only was he handsome and strong but he was a genius in many aspects. Your father was special. He was the golden child and believe it or not, there were no ill-feelings because of that. Everyone understood that people like him only come around every few million years or so. He was everyone’s golden child in a sense and because of that, everyone loved him. Even father who never admits to loving anyone, even he loved your father.)
A moment later Genzuko landed back down with Alutra and then a soft call echoed in the distance.
“Genzuko!”
A tall beautiful woman landed near Genzuko. A black compass hung around her neck. This woman clung to Genzuko lovingly. To Kazuki’s shock, the woman was actually Sephra.
Kazuki was about to speak but Lin spoke first.
(Your father and Sephra, were originally engaged to be married. I know, it’s odd. How could she and your father be engaged and then later on I end up with her? Just wait, all will be explained.)
The memory jumped ahead to Orberus’s throne room. A large argument was taking place between Orberus and Genzuko.
(Lin, why are they fighting. Everything was so peaceful just a second ago. Was it Sephra?)
To this question, Lin shook his head.
(No, the cause of this fight was your real mother.)
