Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 109

After having a long chat, Marty eventually went down to the basement. This became her own personal workshop as her room simply did not have the space required for her to work. Kazuki went and had a talk with Samuel about who Mei and Kosaru were. He did not fill him on all the details and simply told the boy that they were his family and not to pry more than that.

“That’s it. Two children show up from out of nowhere and you just want me to not ask about it or dig any deeper.”

“Yes, that’s exactly what I expect. Some things are best left alone and in the end, is there any reason you need to know?”

Samuel mumbled something under his breath before sighing.

“Fine, I trust you. If that is the answer and explanation you give…It’s good enough for me. Frustrating, but…good enough. Anything else Sir Jentson?”

“That’s all for now. The kids are fast asleep in my room. When they wake up, I’ll explain the situation a little more to them. After all, they will be staying with us from now on.”

Samuel rubbed his chin.

“We are quickly running out of space. This shop was only met for items, with your family, along with the slaves arriving tomorrow, we’ll need more room, otherwise, people will be on top of one another and cramped.”

“Agreed. I’ll ask Viz about it later, he knows how much we have and knows the situation so he should have an idea or two that may help.”

After Kazuki left the room, Samuel leaned back in his chair with a heavy sigh. When he first met Kazuki and Marty they were complete strangers, now they were all connected to one another and were allies. Samuel just felt annoyed that he had to rely so much on others and yet he could do almost nothing to help in return.

(I can’t stay a burden. With Adigus still out there, and father…gone. No doubt the bastard will go after not just me but my brothers as well. They must have already gotten the news of Father’s demise yet why?)

Samuel looked down at the bracelet he had given Kazuki. After returning from the wild, Kazuki had given it back as it was no longer needed.

(Why have none of my brothers contacted me? Just what is going on.)

Samuel tried to activate the bracelt and contact his brothers but none of them were responding. This caused him to have a terrible feeling deep down inside.

(Please be alive.)

Just as Samuel tried to activate his bracelet, somewhere hidden away another bracelet lit up with a faint pulsing glow. A tall man held it in his hand and observed it with a fiendish smile before he crushed it in his palm.

At his feet, a young man lay dying in a pool of his own blood. The large man lifted his foot and pressed it on the young man’s face, pushing his head into the inch-and-a-half deep puddle and drowned the man without hesitation.

“It seems one of your brothers is concerned for you but it’s already too late.”

The moment the blood bubbles were no more, the large man put a small amount of pressure on his step and crushed the skull into squished meat and broken bone. Before this man could enjoy his victory, he began coughing violently and grabbed at his chest. His balance swayed and he had to sit down. After a terrible coughing fit and globs of blood spilling down his chin, the man finally breathed a little.

“Damn you Terinus. Your attack was devastating to the point that I still need to recover but was it not I who got the last laugh in the end? Still, that ambush…who was that plotted against you but not only me. If not for those bastards you would have finally died by my hand but you falling into chaotic space, hmph, I’ll take that as a secondary prize.”

Tapping his own ring, an image was displayed before him and a man on the other side immediately kneeled down and called.

“Master Adigus!”

“Signy…Report.”

Singy got half way through when Adigus grew irate and roared at him.

“You mean to tell me, even after having inside help, you still failed to take the boy? The weakest of all the Cortails and you failed not once but three times. Why should I not end your miserable life here and now?”

Singy shook but he quickly repeated what he said earlier in his report.

“Master forgive me. I should not have hired such incompetent fools. They should have been able to take the boy in the wild but as I said, there were outsiders who interrupted and

“SILENCE! Another excuse, just one more, and I’ll snap my fingers. Even if you are planets away, through chaotic space my power will still reach you and your head will roll.”

Signy bowed even further and lowered his eyes. He did not dare utter a single sound.

“For the boy to outsmart you, how pathetic. Still, he seems to have inherited a bit of Terinus’s wisdom. Underestimating him just because he’s a child, that was your mistake, and me leaving such a simple task to you, that would be considered my mistake. One I will not be making twice. You will no longer be going after the boy. Since terinus is already long gone, and I have killed one of his sons, it is only a matter of time before I eliminate the rest. The only problem is taking them out in public in the middle of a city and I still need a bit more time to recover. For now, watch the child and his guards. Once I have recovered it won’t be difficult to bait the child and his guards outside of the city. After dealing with the last two brothers, I’ll come to Gauldriss and bait him out somehow. For now, just do what I said. Understood?”

Signy was quiet and didn’t answer immediately.

“SIGNY, YOU DARE IGNORE THIS MIGHTY ONE!”

Signy shook his head.

“I wouldn’t dare, I don’t dare. Master! There is more to my report and it’s something you should be aware of before you make any decisions concerning the boy.”

“OH! And what would that be? What concern is so great that it would change my decision?”

Signy hid nothing and told Adigus all about Viz taking part ownership as well as Samuel starting up his own Faction and purchasing many slaves. After hearing all of this Adigus let out a nasty cough and more blood spilled down his shin as he roared.

“WHAT!? VIZ! What does he know, why would he just join the brat, could he be aware of the new weapon? Damn, Damn Damn Damn!”

After a while, Adigus regained his calm and wiped the blood from his face.

“Signy, forget watching the boy, I need you to do something. First, send out some feelers, I want a list of Gods who are on bad terms with Viz and I want it yesterday. As for the boy…

—————————————————————————-

Night fell across the city but not much changed. With Gods and Demigods around the city, the only ones who quieted down at night were those that wielded no power. As for the Cortail Shop, Samuel was sitting at a long table eating alone. As he was spooning his food around with a concerned expression, Chaka and Bersik stood off to the side with worry. Simmons on the other hand just appeared moody.

“Master, is the food to your unliking?”

Bersik took a step forward and grabbed another plate from the table that had some type of roasted bird. Bersik didn’t hesitate to offer it.

“This Bochez duck is the freshest in the city. Would you rather have this instead?”

Samuel sighed.

“No, my appetite it’s just

Before he could finish his words Chaka rushed over and placed one of her hands on his head and felt his temperature.

“Master, are you feeling unwell? Shall I heal you or maybe are you tired.”

Simmons was growing annoyed at the two and felt they were overstepping and quickly he began barking at them and an argument ensued. Just as things seem to get heated the sound of quick steps filled the nearby hall and the doors to the dining room swung open with force.

Kosaru rushed in and was sniffing the air.

“See big sis, I told you the yummy smell was coming from this way. Your direction is bad bad”

Half a second later, Mei was right behind Kosaru.

“I knew it was this way little Kosaru. Your big sis was just testing you that’s all. Now sit down and don’t act up at the table or big brother will be angry.”

Kosaru nodded sweetly before sitting down right on the table. With his little body, he could not sit in a chair and see over the table. Mei sat down nearby and quickly began stacking her plate while fixing another plate for Kosaru.

The three servants and even Samuel watched this with stunned expressions. Simmon was pissed. He had heard already about Kazuki’s guests but seeing them just sit down at his lord’s table and grab food as if it were their own, Simmon’s aura came flooding out and crashing down atop Mei and Kosaru before anyone could say anything.
