Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 111
While Kosaru and Mei ate like there was no tomorrow, Kazuki had a seat nearby and just enjoyed his meal while laughing inwardly at Samuel’s dumbfounded look. Not just Samuel but Chaka and bersik as well were at a loss. They had seen many Beasts eat but the children in front of them seemed capable of out-eating them all.
Meanwhile, Simmons was only now peeling himself from the floor. He had just healed and felt even more hatred for Kazuki and now for Mei and Kosaru but he wouldn’t dare show it on his face. He grit his teeth as he wished for their demise. He held this grudge deep down and prayed one day his darkest desire would come true. As he was wishing for Kazuki and his family’s death, Samuel had something to say.
“Sir Jentson, I am in need of your help and was wondering if you could do something for me.”
“Oh, and what is that?”
Kazuki was curious for but a second before he read Samuel’s soul and knew.
(Hmm, so the boy is going to take the next step.)
“Sir Jentson, even though you’ve already done so much for me already, I have come to a decision. Normally, in my family, in order to earn father’s approval, I and my brothers would carve out our own path with our own strength.”
Samuel became quiet before he stood up and walked to the other side of the table under everyone’s watchful eyes. standing in front of Kazuki, Samuel bowed in front of him. Chaka, Bersik, and Simmons were all confused and felt their young master kneeling was unbecoming of him. Chaka and Bersik were about to complain but Samuel stopped them with one look.
Kosaru and Mei looked on with curiosity while they continued to stuff their faces.
“Sir Jentson. In my family, we would raise our strength from one level to the next all on our own. This would years and years before one could reach the 7th stage. This was meant to be an honorable thing. It was meant to show that we could accomplish things all on our own and it was a sense of pride that we could do this by ourselves but I can no longer afford such things as honor or pride. Sir Jentson, I need to reach the 7th stage as soon as possible. Enemies all around and I’m stuck at the 3rd stage. I am the biggest weakness and will be nothing but a burden with my current power. I beseech you, please lend me your power and help me enter the Convergence stage. This way we can fight together and we will stand a better chance against all those who wish us harm. Sir Jentson, what do you say?”
Kazuki could tell there was a great deal of turmoil within the boy’s soul and he did not come to this decision lightly. By asking Kazuki for help he was basically turning his back on a long family tradition.
(Samuel wishes to put it all on the line in order to survive. It seems like something happened.)
“Is there something you wish to say? As things stand, as long as you remain in a fortified place, you should be safe, especially with the new soldiers we just bought. What has brought this sudden rush on?”
Simmons felt that Kazuki was disrespecting his young master by asking questions instead of just helping him and he gnashed his teeth even harder in frustration. To his surprise, Samuel gave him a small glance out of the corner of his eye.
“I was targeted because of my weak disposition. My subordinate was targeted because he was weak and because of this, his family was taken away. Without strength, we are at the mercy of those who see us only as obstacles. My father had plenty of power but he was one individual. If our family was made up of several more Gods. if my brothers were stronger than they…I believe they would still be alive.”
When Samuel said this all three of his servants became shocked.
“Young Master you don’t mean…”
“Yes Chaka, I tried to contact my brothers earlier but not a single one responded. With father gone, my oldest brother is the second strongest. I didn’t think he would lose as well to a weekend Adigus but even he is not responding. My family…I don’t know if any of them remain. I can no longer wait as I’m being cornered down to the last man. I have to change the situation, I have to go on the offensive. I can’t do that from some safe shadow. I must step out into the light and fight and live.”
With this news, Chaka and Bersik were heartbroken. Simmons though was a mix of emotions. He did not hate the other Cortails and really only felt rage and animosity for Terinus and Kazuki. He couldn’t help but think of his own family and feel sick to his stomach.
“You see Sir Jentson, in order for me to live. I must take destiny into my own hands and shape it in my vision. So will you help me reach the 7th stage?”
Kazuki smiled.
“Three children fighting alongside me…What could go wrong.”
Samuel’s eyes widen.
“So this means you’ll help me!?”
“Helping you is the same as helping myself at this point. You growing in strength means my ally’s strength is improved. That can only be a good thing. You fighting on the frontlines, that is where things may become complicated.”
“Sir Jentson, I have to fight or this will never stop. I can’t be holed up somewhere like a sheep. I am no coward. Just like the warriors in the arena who fight with their life on the line, If I don’t at least do that much, how can I ever call myself a man.”
Samuel stole a glance at Mei when he said the last part but Mei was in her own world as she and Kosaru continued to stuff their faces like wild pigs. Kazuki however caught this look and sighed inwardly.
On the side of the room though, Chaka couldn’t hold back anymore.
“Young Master you can’t fight on the front. What if you were to be killed? You have to stay back where it’s safe!”
“Chaka is right Young Master. This is not the arena where fights can be stopped with a simple call of surrender. This is true life and death where one’s enemy does not stop until your head is cut away from your shoulders. Please I implore you. For your own sake do not act rashly.”
Samuel glared at them and roared.
“SILENCE! I AM THE ONE MAKING THIS DECISION AND THAT IS FINAL!”
Both Chaka and Bersik tried to speak but the moment they did the slave marks on their foreheads lit up and the two felt crippling pain in their soul. Both didn’t care and continued to try and speak out against it but they could not betray their Young Master’s order. The more they tried to speak, the more pain they felt in the depths of their souls.
Samuel witnessed this and felt pain in his heart. These two were loyal servants who only cared about his well-being and they were being punished for it. Still, he did not release the order and the two continued to suffer as they tried to voice their protest.
“Stop trying to speak, you will only harm yourself. Can’t you see that I am doing this not just for myself but for all of us? I can’t let the same thing that happened to Simmons happen to you two. If one of you were to be used as a hostage and come to harm. How would I ever live with myself knowing that if I were stronger I could have prevented it? Father is gone, my brothers most likely as well, and the rest of the family is falling into shambles. They are probably being slaughtered while I’m out here hiding away in my shop like a coward. I must fight, I have to. Even if you two are against me all the way, I will do what I must to ensure we make it through this…together.”
Chaka and Bersik were touched by this and even Simmons felt these words deep down in his core. If only his own Master would have been so passionate. If only he would have fought so hard. Simmons wondered if things would have been different then.
(If the patriarch had acted like this, I would have never betrayed the family. I would have instead fought tooth and nail to protect it with every fiber of my being but looks at it now. Terinus…if only you were half the man your son is. Your family would have thrived for a thousand generations but now…now it is coming to a dark and sad close and you were the cause of its downfall.)
