Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 119
“Jentson, are you a druid?”
Many things clicked in Viz’s head which lead him to this. To his surprise though, there was not an ounce of change to Kazuki’s expression nor did his heartbeat rise or fall as he answered without hesitation.
“A druid, no.”
Even though there was not a single change on the surface or below, Viz felt something in his gut. He wondered if he should just take a peek into Kazuki’s soul world but he decided not to. After all, Kazuki had done nothing to lose trust and was his business partner. To peer into his soul world, that would be crossing the line even for Viz.
Viz released a long sigh.
(What am I thinking? Our partnership has just gotten off the ground, to cross his boundary and betray his trust, it would just be dooming our ventures together from the start. I won’t take a look at his soul for now but if the time comes when I catch him in a definitive lie, I will peel back every layer and witness it all.)
Kazuki could sense a great deal of agitation rising and falling within Viz or rather he could tell from his silence. Some Gods could hide their feelings perfectly well while others simply did not care to. After all, why would they care if a lower being knew how they were feeling as it would not affect them in any way, or so the line of thinking went?
“If you say you’re not a druid then fine but the reason this broken God has been observing you time and again, there is no doubt he believes you are.”
“Yes, this man’s thinking is…questionable.”
Kazuki turned to the man. He was still kneeling before Kazuki. Kazuki was already put off by others kneeling or bowing for him but knowing a God was doing it added another taste of disgust. He didn’t know how to tell the man to stand up. If he was demanding, even if the man was weakened he was still a God and could kill Kazuki in an instant. At the same time, they could not just stand around with their thumbs up their asses having private conversations out in the open. Even if Viz had a barrier up to block listening ears, out in the open just did not sit well with Kazuki.
“For now, would you mind offering your name.”
The man looked up from the dilapidated stone road.
“My name…I…Can’t remember. Please, help me.”
Kazuki looked at Viz and Viz just held up a fist.
“This is pointless, I’ll just kill this annoying bastard and we will be on our way.”
When he said this, the broken God had a severe reaction, he leaped forward right at Kazuki. Viz was surprised by the man’s speed and was caught off guard.
“Shit. Don’t you dare harm my profits!”
To everyone’s surprise, though the man did not attack Kazuki but instead wrapped around his leg, and with tears streaming down his face the man cried and begged.
“Please no, I need your help. I mean you no harm or ill intent just please…please help me!”
Kazuki now felt awkward. He didn’t feel any anger or hostility from this poor man but instead, the guy was just pitiful. Even now he was trembling as if the whole world was out to get him. Kosaru came out from behind Kazuki and stared at the man before patting his head.
“Don’t cry, old mister. Big brother will definitely help you.”
Mei grabbed Kosaru and pulled him back behind Kazuki once more.
“Kosaru why would you say that big brother will help? Didn’t Alutra teach you about strangers?”
When Mei mentioned Alutra she realized she made a mistake and quickly covered her mouth. Viz and Samuel and the servants took note of this unfamiliar name and Kazuki could only sigh.
“Sir, I don’t know anything about you. For you to just approach me from out of nowhere and act like this.”
“It’s not from out of nowhere. I can see it. After searching for so long, I have found you. You have the power to help me remember. I can see the power within you. Please, for so long, my mind has been in a dark void. Waking nightmares of death and darkness. I just want it all to stop.”
Kazuki sighed once more inside before asking.
(Viz, I know it’s a lot to ask but can he come along with us back to your castle? I don’t see a need to kill him as he seems harmless.)
Viz raised a questioning brow.
(You want to bring this broken God to my castle. You really wish to help some poor weakling out of the kindness of your heart. Are you a fool?)
(I never said I would help him, merely o take him back to your place so he stops clinging to me in the middle of the road. As for being a fool, well I don’t know about that but my instincts tell me that he isn’t dangerous to us and besides…he reminds me of someone. Someone I greatly admired and respected. Besides don’t you think you kind of owe me after coming out and straight up saying. “Don’t you dare harm my profits”?)
(Was there something wrong with my statement? After all, if you are harmed it does in fact mess up my profits. As for this person reminding you of someone just how sentimental and weak can you be? I guess it doesn’t matter among the 50-plus others you will be bringing into my home, what’s one more stray off the street? If he gets in the way though, if he becomes a problem, then I will solve it then and there instead of letting it grow and fester, understand?)
Viz acted like there was a problem and changed his mind almost instantly. Kazuki found this odd and chalked it up to God’s being eccentric.
(I understand.)
“Good, let’s go then.”
Viz removed his barrier and started heading down the street. Kazuki held out a hand and helped the scaly man up.
“Come with us. I can’t say whether or not I’ll help you but I can at least hear you out, how’s that sound?”
The man was uncertain but took Kazuki’s hand anyway.
“Please I just want a chance.”
“Ok, then follow me, and don’t cause any trouble.”
The man nodded and followed along.
Kazuki felt weird speaking to a God like this but under the strange circumstances, this path seemed to be the one preferred.
(Arc, what do you think about all of this?)
To this question, Arc did not respond and remained silent. Again Kazuki found this odd but let it go.
At the same time, Kosaru was smirking.
“See big sis, I told you big brother was gonna help.”
Mei punched Kosaru on the top of his head.
“Don’t cause any trouble Kosaru. What if that man was a bad guy or was trying to take advantage of us? You don’t know what he might be up to. We can’t bring unnecessary troubles to big brother you got it?”
Ksoaru was a little shocked. Not from Mei’s punch but instead by her words. He hadn’t thought of any of that. Mei grabbed him and put him on her shoulder before she followed along.
“Come on now, I have a bunch of stuff I got to teach you.”
On the way to Viz’z place, his servant Gider met them halfway. Viz informed him to go and bring the slaves Kazuki purchased directly to his castle. Gider was taken aback learning that all of these people would be living with him and his Master but before he could voice a complaint, Viz sent him off.
Very soon they arrived at Viz’s castle and only a few moments later a large wagon arrived behind them. It was a magic tool and moved without an animal to pull it. As soon as Mei saw it she voiced her complaint.
“Big brother there were wagons in this city. Why did we have to walk all this way then?”
Kazuki as well was unsure and looked at Samuel. Samuel put on a smile as he now found an opportunity to speak with Mei.
“The reason is simple, the only ones who use wagons and things like that are servants. They either don’t have the power to use a storage ring or cannot afford one. So wagons and carts and the like are used to transport goods. This wagon here was used to transport our slaves.”
Mei shook her head.
“Not that dummy. I asked why we had to walk if there were wagons. It’s already boring and inconvenient that we aren’t allowed to fly in the city because of the dumb rules. If I knew there was a wagon then surely there are carriages. I want to sit in a cool armored carriage instead of walking around like a slowpoke.”
Samuel was slightly stunned when mei called him a dummy and his confidence fell a bit. Simmons wished to put Mei in her place but Samuel gave him a glare and Simmons swallowed his tongue.
Kazuki laughed inside seeing this circus and walked over and slapped Samuel on the back.
“Forget your girl troubles. If you are going to lead this Faction then you need to make a good first impression in front of the new members.”
Samuel felt a churn of energy rise within him and took a step forward before commanding.
“Everyone…Step down from there and present yourselves to me!”
