Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 126
Neither Viz nor Kazuki could sense anything out of the ordinary from the dull gigantic blade nor from the blank book yet Arc had claimed them both to be Artifacts. Kazuki again took a look at the book while Viz held the sword. He gave it a good swing and a gust of wind kicked up but besides that…nothing.
Kazuki as well looked through the book but again each page was left blank.
(Arc are you sure you’re not mistaken? These items, there doesn’t seem to be anything to them.)
(Kazuki are you really doubting this ancient one? I am the one true and power cannot hide from me. A weak artifact like these two cannot hide from me. Use some of your ki if you don’t believe me or a Divine crystal. Send its energy into these items and see for yourself.)
Kazuki kind of shrugged before doing just that. He sent a tendril of ki into both the book and the dull sword and waited for a response.
…
Nothing. Arc quickly spoke up.
(Use the divine crystal, use its energy!)
Kazuki took out a divine crystal and poured its energy into the items but again there was no response.
Viz was looking down at the blade in his hand for a reaction but there was none. He looked back at Kazuki with a raised brow.
“What uh…What are you doing exactly? Because whatever it is, it doesn’t seem to be working all too well.”
“Um…Hang on a minute. I’m trying to figure something out.”
Viz chuckled.
“Take your time. I don’t have anywhere to be, hehe.”
Kazuki glared at Arc.
(Arc what is this? Are these really artifacts or not? You’re making me look like a fool.)
(Shut up. They are artifacts! These two bastards, now they’re making me look bad. WAKE UP!)
Arc sent a bit of his energy forward and slapped the two items in anger. As soon as he did this the two items began to vibrate violently. The sword flew out of Viz’s hand and launched itself forward directly at Kazuki or rather right at Arc.
(You impudent welp. SIT!)
Once again Arc released a bit of power and the sword was slammed down into the ground where a small crack formed across its length. The sword froze after that and moved no more.
The sound of metal echoed out continuously as if someone was constantly tapping it.
(Now you want to cry. Shut up or I’ll do far worse!)
The sword then became quiet and the metallic clanging sounded out no more.
After the sword was the book. However, this book seemed more intelligent than the sword and simply floated in front of them.
“Jentson these really are artifacts. Can you control them?”
“No. These things are doing this on their own.”
(Arc what’s happening are you making them do this?)
Arc didn’t answer for a moment. Finally, the sword and book floated freely toward Kazuki. As soon as they came close enough the book and sword slowly lowered and came to rest at his feet.
(I’ve learned a few things Kazuki. These two have been together since they can remember, and yes, they are the reason for the half-bloods deteriorating state. The book and sword don’t belong to the half-blood. Apparently, he took them from their real owner but they can’t remember who or why. Because of this, they have been draining him of his power in hopes of killing him and leaving him to find their true master.)
(So the half-blood is a thief? So they fucked him up to this state so they could escape. Do they not have other abilities, couldn’t they just leave?)
(You know as well as I do how difficult it is to do anything without Origin energy. You and even Viz have felt it, they have none left. Especially when you take into consideration they were trying to kill a God. Without Origin energy, it would be truly difficult for them but the half-blood received a grievous wound to his soul at some point. The damage left him vulnerable and allowed these two to slowly take him down from the inside out. They have been trying to kill him for hundreds of thousands of years and are rather annoyed, no rather enraged that you are trying to heal him.)
(So they probably wish me dead then. Understandable. If I was this close to killing my enemy and then some asshole just appeared and helped them in the last few moments. Enraged is an understatement.)
Kazuki was now wondering if he made a mistake. To have another God on his side would be a great advantage for sure but there was already a lot of baggage with this one.
(So what do you want to do Kazuki? We know nothing about this man except that he’s a thief. I’m not saying that automatically discludes him or anything but dealing with all of this is rather annoying. It just adds one more heaping scoop of shit to an already shitty situation.)
Kazuki remained quiet for a moment. He needed more power, he needed more strength and his own strength currently wasn’t enough.
(If what they say is true, if this half-blood really did steal them then I will make it right.)
Arc was annoyed.
(No no no. Are you seriously trying to add more things to the to-do list? Helping them does nothing for us. It only slows our progress. How much longer will you have me wait?)
(Arc this will not affect us at all if you think about it. In order to help them we simply need you to regain a little more Origin energy, then you can send them anywhere they wish to go. Helping them is a small sacrifice and it’s something you don’t have to do until you feel like doing it. In return, they remove whatever they have done to the half-blood and I can slowly return him to power. With it, we will have another ally on our side which in return quickens the pace of us finding your missing piece. This is a win-win.)
This time it was Arc who became quiet.
(That…Makes sense.)
Kazuki smirked hearing Arc admit it.
(Yep. So are we in agreement?)
(This…This should work. As you said, this will be a win-win. Fine, I agree.)
Kazuki was surprised at how easily Arc was convinced. Usually, there would be a good deal more of a push back but Arc accepted it this time. The reason was simple. It made sense all around. By guaranteeing the artifacts a small favor in the future, it could boost Kazui’s forces now which in turn would speed up the process of finding Arc’s missing piece.
Arc didn’t hesitate to relay the message to the two artifacts. The two beings were unsure at first. To convince them Arc gave a small demonstration. Without telling Kazuki, Arc suddenly opened a small rift in front of them. As the power of space and time tore open there and then, Viz was stunned and instinctively stepped back and put up a barrier.
After a few seconds though, he saw no change in Kazuki’s expression.
“Jentson, are you doing this?”
Kazuki could only nod. If he were to say no, it would tell Viz that he had no control over the Arc. If that were the case it would make things that much more complicated so he played it off as if he were doing it.
“I am showing the artifacts something. It will just be a moment.”
“With chaotic space. Do you understand how dangerous that is? if you were to be pulled into that, there would be no hope of saving you. Instant death. Hurry and close it before my whole castle is sucked in and destroyed!”
Kazuki glared at Arc.
(Arc what the hell are you doing!? Hurry up and close this shit before something disastrous happens.)
(Quiet Kazuki. I’m showing the artifacts my power. It’s this or they don’t believe me.)
(If it was going to be like this, I’d rather you have just threatened them than convince them.)
(Hah. You know nothing. Currently, I am doing both.)
Kazuki found this laughable. Persuading and threatening was at the end of the day extortion.
Kazuki could feel a terrifying pull on his entire body and both the book and sword were pulled toward the rift. His senses began to dull and his magic power seemed to fade out of existence. Kazuki could not feel his power as chaotic space distorted in front of him.
(What is this strangeness? It’s like I am losing myself entirely.)
Before the dread of the endless chaos took him, Arc finally closed this rift. The artifacts fell to the ground and both trembled before Arc’s laughing voice filled Kazuki’s head.
(Hahahaha. I’ve forgotten the feeling of letting loose in a negotiation. It feels good.)
(You call that a negotiation. That was fucking terrifying.)
(What are you complaining for? You were safe the entire time and I have also secured you a new God. Be thankful you ungrateful brat.)
