Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 129

Only now after taking their heads out of their collective asses did they look over and notice the half-blooded stranger’s power. The source that brought them here, that disturbed their city, it was obvious it had come from this stranger.

Some recognized their error. They had shown up from out of nowhere and placed blame on Viz simply because it was convenient since the power clearly came from this location. Those that were stubborn however still blamed Viz. Viz’s power covered the strangers when everything went off. If not for Viz many people would have died when the stranger’s power spread through the city. Since Viz had covered it though, it was natural for these other God’s to place blame on him. They had literally overlooked the root cause. Embarrassing when you consider that these people in the sky were all God’s. For them to not see through the misunderstanding right away, fool is the term many would use in this scenario.

Due to this, many of the God’s said nothing as they understood there was a misunderstanding. Add on that Viz was not backing down from a fight, it only made their convictions less than. A few of them lowered their Divine weapons and some even put them away. There was no need t risk their life over something so stupid.

Lestirius though was not having it. Yes, he realized as well that Viz was not the source but he had already been humiliated once in his own arena by Viz. If he simply backed down now, that would be twice he was made out to be the fool.

“Do not lower your weapons! Even if the man next to Viz is the cause, it is still true that the problem started here. The fact that that man has yet to give a defense as to why he unleashed his power upon the city causes me to doubt him immediately. Not to mention that this man is in leagues with Viz and is his guest so the responsibility is divided between the two of them. This is clearly a disrespect to all of us and a danger to our authority and city. We cannot let this go!”

Sasha tried to calm Lestirius but he just glared at her and shouted.

“Are you his ally or mine? Draw your weapon right now or else!”

Sasha felt Lestirius was going too far but if she pushed him too much it may just turn around and bite her in the ass. She was caught in between. Tessa on the other hand relished in the situation and she stood right next to Viz.

“Right those who are allies should stick with their own. Sasha, you stay over there and I’ll gladly stand right here.”

Tessa’s words dug at Sasha at every turn, and her smile even more. Before Sasha could say anything in return, Tessa continued.

“Lestirius, your anger is unfounded and we have still not heard an explanation. Maybe you are right though and we should all gang up on Viz and his…guest but then again is that not rash. If Viz really was trying to fight against us all and was attempting something, would he not have continued? Why stop here and wait for us to show up? All we really know is that a powerful source of energy came from here and spread into the city. After a moment the power was reversed and contained here. Yet instead of running away or fighting when we show up, Viz has only postered and shown his fangs but that was only in response to Lestirius’s provocation. Everyone needs to let cooler heads prevail and we need to talk it out and get to the bottom of it. Otherwise, we will all suffer together and our city will be no more…our profits along with it.”

Many God’s were greedy. Hearing that their income could be reduced to zero was not something they took kindly. A loss of profits and a fight to the death, it was way too damn early in the day to go through all of this.

Lestirius tried to rile the crowd up but several Gods shot him down and demanded to hear Viz speak. Tessa got everyone to calm down and Lestirius had to hold his tongue as many Gods were not in the mood to be goaded into a pointless and life-threatening fight without real cause.

Viz could not reveal that Kazuki had helped heal part of the half-blooded’s soul. If he did, it could put Kazuki’s life in danger as this power was very rare and many would wish to exploit it or see him dead so that he may not use it to help their foes. The situation was tricky but Viz was not slow.

He curled his finger and the half-blooded stranger was taken into the air and to Viz’s side.

“This here is an old friend from long ago. A long time ago, this man saved my life, this was well before any of us were Gods. Eventually, I came to this city and settled down but I never forgot the debt I owed this man. Later on, he found his way here and asked me for a favor. For saving my life those many years ago, he had run into trouble and because of this he was constantly on the run and made little improvement to his cultivation. In return for what he had done for me, I helped him enter the pinnacle of power and reach Godhood. Since he had just become a God, he was unsure of how to control his powers, which is my fault since I did not warn him of what can happen when one ascends to our level. So I quickly prevented his power from harming anyone and forcibly pulled it back, when you all showed up. That’s the story. Now, is there anything else or do you think someone unleashing their own power and causing no harm is reason enough for the Gods of Gauldriss city to show up and fight to the death?”

Several Gods didn’t quite buy this excuse but they could not prove Viz wrong. Some though felt it made sense and were fine with this explanation. After all, in the end, the only damage was to Viz’s own castle and who were they to say what one could and could not do in their own castle? No one was harmed but more importantly, none of them lost any profits and there was no real damage.

The initial reaction they had was due to the fact that the surplus of energy expanding into their city had come from Viz’s estate and with what they knew about Viz, they really thought there might have been an attack. Showing up with weapons at the ready, it only made sense. Knowing Viz for all these years, it was clear he did what he wanted and was unhappy with something but at the same time, he never crossed the line.

Some saw this situation and felt it fit Viz while a few skeptics doubted it all.

The one who really pushed forward was again Lestirius.

“No! This must all be lies. Viz is not known to help others. He is a lone wolf through and through. he would not help lead a fly to shit let alone help someone become a God. This is not the Viz I know.”

This time Kazuki stepped forward and flew up into the sky. When he did this, several Gods felt this was offputting. For a being that was not a God to fly in the sky, it could be seen as a form of disrespect.

“What you say is true, or rather it was until recently. Viz has been changing as of late and many of you are witness to that. For example, when he saved me from you just the other day in the arena. Is that something a so-called lone wolf would do? And counter to what you say, this man here is now a God. I don’t know about you but only an individual can help themselves become a God or another God can help them enter that stage. I on the other hand clearly cannot and there is no one else around so it had to be Viz that helped him become a God right? So that is twice in a short few days that Viz has done the complete opposite of what you know of him. In the past he was but in the present, he is not.”

Kazuki had made a good point and everyone seemed to buy it except Lestirius. He was blinded by previous humiliation and did not wish to take another loss here. He tried to deflect and pointed at Kazuki.

“You lowly little speck of shit. You dare fly above Gauldriss and spew nonsense to a higher being such as myself. I thought you may have had potential back in my arena but it is clear you are a rebellious fuck on the side of a

Before he could finish Sasha quickly spoke into his mind.

(Lestirius that’s enough.)

Lestirius turned to look at her as if she were crazy.

(Are you interrupting me!?)

Lestirius’s aura began to spread around him and he cut an intimidating presence.

Sasha didn’t back down from this and released her own aura.

(Look around you Lestirius, you have lost them. I don’t know why you are holding such grudges but if you continue you will lose all support. Not just from them but from me as well. Do not embarrass us further.)

Lestirius turned and looked at the other Gods and many had looks of disgust. He could feel a fire burn in his chest as he realized he was looking terrible in front of them.

He cooled his anger instantly and regained his calm. gritting his teeth he swallowed the bitterness.

“It seems no one is willing to fight…Heh, fine, I may have been a bit…rash. The evidence though is clear. Viz is in the right and I…The wrong. I will not push things further and shall take my leave before I say or do something I may regret later. Goodbye Viz…Goodbye…Jentson.”

Without another word, Lestirius vanished in a blaze of fire and was gone.
