Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 144

“Now that those two have regained their power, we have two more Gods on our side. Viz has there been any word on Tessa’s slave market? If we had a few more Allies it would bolster our forces further.”

Viz crossed his arms with an annoyed expression.

“That damn woman Tessa. She refused to answer Gider and said she would only speak to me directly. All that just so she could tell me that the new stock of slaves she had just brought in was flat-out purchased by Singy. That’s twice the bastards cleaned out her entire inventory. She told me there would be nothing else coming in for a while so we’re out of luck on that front.”

This situation was a headache knowing they would have no more fighters on their side but there was still hope.

“Signy is clearly buying as many slaves as possible under Adigus’s order. I don’t know when he plans on using his army which is why we’ll go with Samuel’s ambush Idea. In this way, we can pull our enemies out of the darkness and into the light. They will have to use all of their cards if they want to crush us. Samuel, how’s your side going?”

After Kazuki said this, Samuel then added.

“After everyone left, I sent out many of the slaves like you told me to and had them blend into the crowd and spread the rumor about the expert’s last shipment. Those that could not afford the Infinity Blades this time around will show up and try and rob my expert. Not just those that couldn’t afford it but even those who bought as many as they could. The draw of the Infinity Blades is too much to ignore. Since my expert is delivering them himself, it will bring in many if not all of the Factions from not only this city but the other nearby cities as well. The travel time alone will be a nightmare for many and it will take weeks to arrive but when things go down, there will be a bloodbath and plenty of confusion to do what we must.”

“Will Adigus really show up though? I mean if he knows all of these folks will come along as well, don’t ya think it could become too chaotic?”

Marty’s question was a reasonable one but Kazuki knew Adigus would show. Whether it was instinct or simple logic of a person’s nature, he believed he would show up.

“There are many variables but let’s think about what Adigus’s goals really are. He wishes to take all of the Cortail businesses along with the Infinity Blades. Let’s start with the latter as it’s the easiest to see through. The blades are his greed and wish to obtain even more wealth and power. Adigus, as well as everyone else that will show up, will do so not to just steal the last shipment but to steal the hidden expert who crafted the weapons. Once someone has this hidden expert craftsman, damn to the weapons already made for the one who controls the craftsman will control the supply.”

Everyone agreed with this assessment. Greed was a powerful thing and it would drive even the sanest man to madness.

“The other part is taking control of all of the Cortail businesses. Adigus is killing Samuel’s brothers one by one and we don’t know if he’s already killed all of them.”

When Kazuki said this the room grew quiet and eyes fell on Samuel but he held it all together. Something that most if not all children could not do but Samuel was not like most children. He had experienced and seen far too much and he would not waver and fall apart, not now.

“Sir Jentson…Please continue.”

Kazuki sighed. He understood just how much strength it required not to break during such trying times.

“Samuel has updated me on the laws of not only this city but the other three great cities of this world. Killing and stealing one’s property within city limits is illegal and would normally be punished. Not only that, one would not then be able to take over an enemy’s business just because they have died. The fact that Adigus is doing this without repercussion could mean a few things. One, he has influence inside these cities. Without Samuel’s father around, those influenced will not care what Adigus does so long as he cuts them in.”

Samuel gripped his fist but remained quiet. On the surface, he was calm but underneath, a raging storm was brewing.

“The second possibility is Adigus has killed Samuel’s brothers outside of city limits and using this loophole, he would receive no punishment. This would leave the businesses to those who willed it. Since all of this crazy shit has happened in a short amount of time these wills have most likely not been updated and Adigus knows this. Therefore these businesses would be passed to the other male heirs of Terinus. Aka, Samuel and his brothers. Adigus would then kill all of these brothers and their inheritance would get passed down the line all the way to you. Adigus wished to have you kidnapped using Simmon’s help and most likely later all he would need to do is threaten a small boy to hand everything over and it would be done and over with little to no effort.”

“Right but we put a stop to that didn’t ya old young dog, hehe.”

Marty smiled proudly and Mei’s eyes shined in admiration.

“Yes. You and I stopped that plot and this is the reason I believe the first possibility is the most likely scenario. Since that plan failed and you did not fall into Adigus’s hands, he then switched to trying something inside of Gauldriss but again it was a failure on Signy’s part. Failing once could be counted as bad luck, twice though is no coincidence and it quickly reveals a pattern. Adigus wants you dead no matter what and with you gone, all that you own should be up for grabs. If that is indeed the case it means he will need inside help to take over what is yours. By this conclusion, I believe there is at least one other God in this city that is our enemy. You add on all those that wish to kill Viz because of his attitude and we have a troublesome group we will soon be facing.”

Viz raised a row.

“And what attitude would that be?”

Kazuki tilted his head slightly to the side with a look that clearly said “Really”.

Viz laughed.

“Haha, fine you got me. I tend to piss people off but it’s not my fault they are so damn sensitive. More enemies simply means more fun.”

Everyone went quiet. They did not like having more fuel thrown onto the fire if it need not be but it was already too late to do anything about enemies that had always been.

Viz took the hint and just went back to the conversation.

“Right, Jentson, so far as we know, Adigus is our main enemy, and as you said there is no way he is alone. Altogether, including myself, there are 4 Gods on our side. It looks like it is our advantage but there’s absolutely no way this is true. I alone can handle Adigus but if he really does have more Gods on his side as we suspect, he will most likely have more than what we can muster. He knows he is facing me so he will purposely bring in more allies just to deal with me alone. We have 4 but the possibility of him having more is high. How do you want to deal with this?”

Kazuki smirked.

“I think it’s time we made a visit to a few shops.”

Viz was confused.

“What are we going to find at the shops that can help us deal with Gods? Shouldn’t we look for another way to acquire more slaves? If you want I can go sneak around at night and cripple a few Gods for you. I beat them an inch and a half away from death and damage their soul and then you swoop in like a savior and heal their soul on the condition that they join us. How does that sound?”

Viz was actually proud of that plan but Kazuki didn’t know whether he should laugh or cry at this time. It was Marty who came out and said why that wouldn’t work.

“That’s a terrible idea. If ya go around bashing people up like that, ya really think they’ll just believe Jentson here? They’ll think they’ve been set up for sure and find it all way too suspicious. Besides that though, ya know how Gods are. If ya cripple them like that their personality won’t shift automatically. That takes years of being broken and down at the bottom before you flip and even be willing to accept the help of a mortal. Otherwise, they would simply be enraged at the thought of a 7th stage doing something they could not. With that anger and humiliation, they may even attack Jentson out of nowhere. What you’re suggesting is too dangerous for our side.”

Viz gave Marty a death glare but Kazuki stopped in before things got hectic.

“Viz your idea isn’t a bad one but simply put it would take far too long to implement. A God would try a million different things before they would ever consider a mortal. Besides if I really did come out to help them, they know it would not simply be a favor. Knowing our current situation with rumors spreading in the city, they are already aware a fight is coming and would not seek my help as it could potentially paint a target on their own backs. Thanks but I believe I have a slightly better option if you’re willing to hear me out.”
