Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 148

The sails fluttered and shined with silver light as Samuel’s Vajra ship tore through the air at a blinding speed. As Kazuki continued to train Mei, Kosaru, Samuel, and the others, the days swept by. Like this, a day passed, and then two, and then a week followed by another until the time had come.

Viz was meditating in the center of the ship, his mighty sword rotating around him as he visualized the upcoming battle when he sensed it. Standing up, his large frame attracted the attention of everyone nearby as he called out.

“Jentson…It’s time.”

Pointing with his chin toward the south, several small shapes could be seen gathered around another shape in the distance. Kazuki followed with his eyes and could see a ship a few billion miles away. It was hovering there with its barrier up and aboard this ship there stood a lone figure. From here Kazuki couldn’t quite make out what this person looked like but after Viz described both the man and the ship in detail, Samuel recognized it as the hidden expert.

“Sir Jentson. That would be him.”

This ship hovered silently in the sky. Well, almost quietly. Although the ship was alone, it was surrounded by people and monsters alike. These people were attacking the ship constantly but none were getting through the barrier.

A little ways off from this ship was a large city far bigger than Gauldriss.

“That must be Vestoro nearby. Why is this expert just sitting there taking those attacks? Wouldn’t it be better if he hid in the city?”

To Marty’s question, Kazuki minored a guess or two.

“His identity might have already been exposed, therefore he can’t hide in the city. As for why he remains in the vicinity, it’s possible he’s run out of fuel or maybe he simply does not have enough energy to flee and keep up the barrier of his ship.”

Viz looked on and thought of another possibility.

“If the man runs these people will of course chase. To defend and escape at the same time is much more difficult than simply defending. Besides he sent the clues to you Samuel, it seems he has some trust in you for some reason.”

Samuel couldn’t understand why.

“But I’m just a kid. Why would he place any trust in me?”

Kazuki put a hand on his shoulder.

“You act like you aren’t dependable. The time it takes for information to relay to and fro. He had time before he sent that clue to you. It’s possible he heard that you had a God on your side and thought his best bet would be to wait for you to come and collect him.”

Samuel was unsure.

“Doesn’t that mean he’s been waiting almost three weeks and taking these attacks for that period?”

Samuel was worried.

“I don’t know but we’ll understand everything when we go meet him.”

Viz grabbed his sword out of the air and tightened his grip around the hilt.

“Well, then we’d better hurry fast because the barrier around his ship is starting to fail. Whatever we do we’d best do it with haste!”

Kazuki looked into the distance and could see the barrier wavering. All it would take is one tremendous blow to cause its collapse.

Kazuki waved his hand and several rings colored in a deep black flew out and landed on everyone’s finger.

“READY YOURSELVES! WE GO IN NOW!”

Everyone drew their Soul weapons while Mei, Kosaru and the others that were not yet Demigods held their Infinity Blades tightly in their grasp. Kazuki’s eyes glowed with radiant light as he took control of Samuel’s ship and launched themselves forward at its greatest speed.

The air screamed as it was torn apart by the piercing ship. Light seemed to bend and flex as if it were made of rubber as they soared through the skies without delay.

A billion miles seemed to shrink to inches as they came flashing through the air and were closing the gap in seconds.

“Shit, those bastards have grown impatient, they know we’re coming!”

Viz stood at the bow of the ship with his large heavy blade raised high above his head. Kazuki could see in the distance that the enemies saw them coming and pressed their attack. They were going harder and using more and more power to try and destroy the expert craftsman barrier. They had been using precise attacks earlier to try and destroy the barrier without destroying the ship and thereby potentially harming the hidden expert.

(They no longer care about the man’s safety. So long as they can get past the barrier, a God can easily preserve the expert’s soul and revive him. The ship is just forfeited at this point.)

From here they were still a few seconds away. In this amount of time, the enemies could break the barrier. This is why Viz stood at the front of the ship. With his sword raised high, the power of wind and lightning gathered at the tip of his blade. Sparks of red electricity danced across the surface of his sword as he slashed downward with a mighty force.

The ship could not take this amount of strength and the entire front of Samuel’s ship tilted downward at an extreme bias and a large crack ran through from the tip of the bow to the back of the stern.

Everyone except Viz was shaken violently and fell over onto their asses. At the same time, well over a million bolts of red lightning raced across the sky and came cracking and booming with thunderous explosions.

*KRACKK-BOOOOOM KA-BOOOM BOOOOOOOOOOOOM!*

This attack was even faster than the ship and came upon the enemies as if it had been transported directly to them. Just as this attack was abounding and was set to take every attacker’s life, someone moved forward and swung their own Divine Soul weapon to counter.

*BANG!*

The swing was instantaneous and seemed simple in nature, yet at the exact moment of contact, the entire sky went blindingly white and the explosions roaring all around were silenced as if they never were.

The light faded just as quickly as it had arrived. As it left, the figure of a large humanoid figure appeared in the distance.

*HAH!*

“When they said Viz had joined up with some whelps, some insignificant mortals, I laughed in their faces but to think it was true. Man, what a strange time we are living in. By my mother’s tits, Viz, you the lone wolf actually joined hands with mortals!”

Viz let out a long breath as he saw the person in the distance.

“Ezenee. You are not from Vestoro or Gauldriss. What business do you have here?”

Viz already knew the answer but was simply buying time. With this short exchange, even though the ship was now damaged, it was enough time for Kazuki and everyone else to arrive. Viz flew off the ship and came face to face with this so-called Ezenee. The humanoid figure stood well over 15 feet tall with white skin that resembled marble and had an ox-like face with two curved horns. Dark black eyes from which no light could escape. This man or beast looked rather ominous.

The world seemed to become quiet as everyone suddenly backed away. It was now obvious why the hidden expert did not choose to flee. This Ezenee person, from this brief exchange, Kazuki could tell his strength was seemingly on par with Viz’s. Kazuki did not know just how strong the hidden expert was. he knew he was a God but at the end of the day, he was mainly a masterful craftsman. This did not lend well to overbearing power and strength. In other words, Kazuki did not believe this hidden craftsman was very strong even if he was a God.

(To flee would only lead to his own death. This expert craftsman had no choice but to stay otherwise Ezenee would have killed him while he was trying to run away. What I don’t get is why this person did not simply destroy the barrier and take the expert already. It’s obvious he could have long ago so why did he just wait around all this time? Could it be he isn’t after the expert at all, then what else could he be aft…)

Kazuki’s thoughts reached the same place the conversation did when Ezenee pointed a large glaive at Viz.

“Viz, my business is of course connected to you. Did you think I would miss out on such an opportunity? Kill you and collect a disgustingly fat reward. You don’t know how long I’ve wished to see your blood upon my blade and now I’m getting paid to do it. Life is full of mysteries, is it not?”

Ezenee smiled fiendishly as he grabbed his glaive with both hands.

Those who were attacking the expert’s ship regretted not being able to break the barrier but now they could do nothing and had to retreat, lest they get caught up in the fallout. In an instant, everyone fled into the distance and watched with trembling anxiousness.

“Jentson. take the expert and run. I will hold Ezenee here while you flee.”

Kazuki felt a chill run down his spine. Viz was powerful and confident but at this moment he did not say he would kill Ezenee but rather hold him up. This told Kazuki everything eh needed to know about the situation. Kazuki gave Samuel a look and Samuel quickly called out to the silently floating ship.
