Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 168

“It looks like you put in some work. Good job Viz, you can take a rest now. Leave the rest to us.”

Kazuki, Sasha, and Tessa surrounded Viz.

Viz had no time to be surprised by Sasha and Tessa’s arrival. Even though he was no more than a Divine Soul weapon, his concern was not for himself.

“Jentson, the kids! They are being hunted down by a few Gods. Don’t worry about me just go get them NOW!”

Kazuki gave Sasha a look and Sasha began to pout.

“What! Why me?”

Kazuki’s line of sight drifted to her whip.

“Besides your speed, that whip of yours can stretch across the horizon even faster. With you leading, you should be able to gain on them and catch the enemy far faster than the rest of us. Please!”

Sasha rolled her eyes.

“I don’t even get to bask in the appreciative light. Viz just remember that I was here to rescue you and you now owe me dearly.”

Without another word, she took off into the distance. She became a beam of black light and was gone without another word. Along with her, two other trails of light disappeared with her.

Another beam of light arrived next to Kazuki and the others a fraction of a second later. To Viz’s surprise, the person who arrived last was none other than Lestirius.

Viz was immediately on guard but his expression shifted when Lestirius didn’t attack him but instead stood guard near him.

“Lestirius what game are you playing at?”

Lestirius smirked.

“jentson here convinced me. If I were to beat you while in your weakened state after facing all of those Gods earlier, it would do nothing for my reputation. Instead, I would look petty. What if I killed the leader who brought an army of Gods with him? I am part of the group that slayed over a hundred Gods. My reputation will live on with the legends of legends. So I’m saving your ass. Now shut up and like the mortal…er Jentson said, leave the rest to us.”

Lestirius’s words stumbled for a moment at the mention of Kazuki. Only now did Viz recognize why. Kazuki was no longer a mortal but a Demigod. Viz was confused at the rush of changes and switches in the scenario. The enemy was now an ally, and the ally was no longer a Mortal. Too many unexplained things were happening all at once.

“Viz I’ll explain later. For now, recover your body.”

“Jentson if I could I would but I simply have no more energy. I need Divine power and there is none around.”

Kazuki opened his ring at this moment and out came thousands of Divine crystals.

“I picked these up after the first wave of ships took out those Gods. Use as much as you want, I have mountains worth.”

This whole exchange happened in a fraction of a second and Across from them, Adigus was not sitting still.

His own ring glowed in response. A waterfall worth of Divine crystal spilled from his ring and became powder as he absorbed as much energy as possible.

Arc buzzed with electricity as he gave a warning.

(Kazuki be careful! He has an Artifact. The golden gauntlet he’s wearing is dangerous.)

Arc relayed as much detail as he could to Kazuki in an instant and Kazuki, in turn, warned the others.

They didn’t know how he knew this but they did not doubt his words, not in this situation. Besides, they could sense a small amount of Origin energy coming from Adigus.

As Viz’s body began to reform, he gave his own warning.

“That gauntlet gives him extreme speed and is incredibly tough. It can break a God’s Divine Soul weapon in a single blow if you’re not careful!”

Tessa and Lestirius became cautious and took defensive positions. Lestirius created a gravity field all around them to slow anything that came near them. At the same time, he created several tornadoes made of fire and lightning to help protect them all.

Adigus watched this with absolute rage. He felt he had now recovered enough power and the silver wings atop his gauntlet began to glow once more.

“Traitors and cowards all of you. Jentson, you especially have caused setback after setback. You have cost me a fortune beyond reason and wasted so much of my time. All of my plans would have gone smoothly if not for your disgusting existence. Today…You shall draw your last breath without exception.”

(KAZUKI HE’S COMING!)

Arc roared within Kazuki’s mind and using the little Origin energy Arc had, space bent ever so slightly. At the same time, Lestirius felt a slight disturbance in his gravitational field but it moved so fast he could not keep up nor react to it properly. Tessa was no different. She felt a tingle on her skin as her hair raised slightly. The very next moment a long tear in Chaotic space appeared in the midst of their so-called defense.

Kazuki felt a deep pain in his chest. Adigus was now behind them by several million miles.

“You, what did you do to my attack?”

Adigus’s eyes widened. He definitely aimed for Kazuki’s head and planned to destroy him in a single move.

Standing in front of Kazuki was Viz. His body was completely destroyed once more and his Divine Soul weapon had even more cracks. He had actually managed to move in that instant or rather he moved just before and blocked in front of Kazuki.

Once again he began to eat up a shit ton of Divine crystals to reform his body. Viz as well was surprised. He could only block 20 to 30% of that attack. The rest of that force should have been more than enough to kill Kazuki but here he stood with a mere hole in his chest.

As the hole instantly healed, Viz could only think of one thing and looked at Arc on Kazuki’s finger.

(Artifacts really are incredible. I felt Origin energy for a split second, it must have been his ring that deflected the rest of the damage.)

Viz smiled.

“Adigus, is that all you are capable of? Jentson a mere Demigod took your attack and lived. How the Heavens look down on you with mockery.”

Adigus’s eyes widened and he took aim once more. Everyone wondered why in the Seven Realms of Hell, Viz was provoking him but they had no time to ask questions. Lestirius wielded a mighty mace. The spikes on his mace began to spin rapidly and lightning scattered across its surface. At the same time, Tessa’s scythe gathered a thin layer of ice along her blade. Frozen energy encircled her as she didn’t hesitate to slash outward.

Viz shouted.

“YES ATTACK HIM PREINTIVELY. DO NOT LET HIM GO ON THE OFFENSIVE!”

Lestirius as well swung his mace forward and arcs of lightning shot forward. Viz reformed his body and swung his heavy sword with all his might. His lightning, Lestirius’s lightning, and Tessa’s frost energy went from three individual entities and combined to become a single beam of plasma-like energy.

Adigus simply raised his gauntlet and whispered.

“Not enough.”

The silver gauntlet wings fluttered and his body moved forward faster than light. For a single moment, it seemed as if he was phasing through time and space as he moved in a single straight line. His gauntlet met this beam of plasma head-on and thoroughly destroyed it. He was slowed slightly but continued forth. Now he was met with his enemy’s barriers. With ease, he pierced through all three of those as well. The final barricade was their Soul weapons. His gauntlet collided with all three and several more cracks spread throughout their blades.

Each of their Soul weapons was knocked aside in this split second before he arrived in front of Viz. Once more his gauntlet met very little resistance as he destroyed Viz’s body with a single blow. Continuing forward was the one he wished to kill the most, Kazuki.

His gauntlet arrived directly before Kazuki’s head. Three inches away, two, one. At the moment his gauntlet should have shattered Kazuki’s skull, an immense power pulsed for a single instant. Arc tapped into its reserves. This instant was just that, an instant. It happened so extremely fast that Adigus was not aware of it as he moved forward.

Origin power spread out in front of Kazuki’s forehead. This spot of Origin energy was no bigger than the seed of a small fruit. The moment Adigus’s golden gauntlet collided with this seed size worth of Origin power, space bent in a precise manner and his gauntlet was deflected ever so slightly.

Adigus only became aware that he had failed to kill Kazuki when he was already millions of miles away on the other side. He looked at his gauntlet strangely before looking at Kazuki in the distance.

“What sorcery is this?”

Viz again began to rebuild his body.

“Just as I thought. Adigus’s artifact has a clear weakness.”
