Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 171
The second Adigus had vanished into the open tear in Chaotic space. As for the last Adigus, he did not even dare try and stay to fight. He deflected a single strike of Lestirius’s but could not avoid Tessa’s swirling scythe. Adigus’s waist was cut apart and his legs fell away limp.
His eyes went wide but he said nothing. His gauntlet lit up and the silver wings fluttered as he took off into the distance. Before Tessa or Lestirius could react, the last Adigus was billions of miles away. Even if they used a Vajra ship, there was no way they could possibly catch him.
Tessa spun her scythe and shouldered it.
“Jentson, should we pursue him?”
Tessa was asking sincerely and not only her but Lestirius and Viz waited for his command. None of them looked down on Kazuki and now saw him as an equal.
“After killing two of them, only one Adigus remains. Those were not mere artificial creations and each body contained a third of his soul which means two-thirds of his soul was completely destroyed. The wound he’s taken is severe and even if he somehow remains a God, that will not be for long. He will most likely regress back to the Demigod stage. His place in the Three Realms is finished. All he can do now is flee and pray he never crosses our path again.”
Kazuki meant this. He knew very well what it was like to have a damaged soul. Kazuki only had three small fragments of damage within his soul previously and because of these three soul wounds, it threatened to revert nearly all of his power until he was a weak and feeble being. Not just him but the slaves on his side as well. Some had been Gods and so forth and because of soul damage they were nearly crippled and capped forever. Only with someone who was an expert at healing souls would such damage be repaired and that as well was a rarity beyond rarity to find. Not to mention actually receiving help once such an expert was found. Adigus even without death would be in agony and weakened to such a state he would most likely never rise up ever again.
It was not 100% guaranteed Adigus would never cause trouble and somehow come back but the odds were stacked far against him. Not only was he weakened to such a state but his reputation would fully be in the dirt. He was a God who led more than a hundred Gods to their death and the hand that helped to take so many of these lives was none other than a 7th-stage mortal at the time. There was no comeback.
At this moment Lestirius was shaking. His hands were trembling. Tessa was curious as to what was going on and asked.
“What’s wrong with you?”
She barely finished her sentence when Lestirius roared out into the world.
*RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!*
He smiled widely.
“WE DID IT, WE ACTUALLY FUCKING DID IT! ADIGUS IS NO MORE AND IT WAS THE FOUR OF US THAT TOOK HIM DOWN!”
Tessa now understood and she laughed with a bit of giddiness.
“True and he even had an artifact. Sure it wasn’t fully powered and he did not have complete control but it was still an artifact nonetheless. If his ruined soul doesn’t cause his final destruction, his shame will cause him to never show his face again and no one will ever trust or follow him again. We accomplished something that can be called impossible in many circles. We defeated a God with an artifact. Not some fake but a real genuine artifact.”
They truly had done the impossible. To beat a being that held an artifact was like trying to overturn the heavens themselves. All of them knew just how insane this feat was. If not for the deep cache of Divine crystals Kazuki had just so happened to pick up after all of those Gods had been killed earlier, they would not have been able to repair and create new bodies on the spot. If not for Arc’s ability to calculate on an infinite and instant level they would not have been able to know of Adigu’s flight paths. If not for Kazuki’s ki energy, which improved their eyes and reaction time by a few small increments, they would not have been able to react in time. If not for their incredible luck, they would have been reduced to nothingness the first time Adigus used his artifact.
There were too many variables that had come together to make this happen and they all knew just how close they came to extinction. Even now their Divine SOul weapons were not fully repaired yet and contained many deep cracks. Just a little more damage here or there and they would be no more.
Tessa smiled as she floated close to Viz.
“Viz you know you owe me right?”
Viz sighed before nodding away.
“Yes yes, you came and…helped. I will be sure to repay you someday so please don’t rub it in. How much do you want from me?”
Tessa shook her head.
“No, not that. Jentson, tell Viz what he owes.”
Viz felt something was off and gave Kazuki an odd look.
“What is she speaking of?”
Kazuki felt now was not the time to talk about such things and just before he was about to change the subject, there was a glint of light in the distance.
Light bent in a seemingly unnatural way before Marty and Gider appeared flying straight at them atop her glider. Kazuki was curious about the glider she had been bragging about and wondered what it was like but again, before he spoke, he could see a dreadful look on Marty’s face. Not just her but Gider, Viz’s right-hand man was pale and missing his arm.
Viz did not hesitate to fly forward as fast as possible to meet his loyal follower. Tessa as well took off after Viz. Lestirius had no connection with Marty or Gider so he just stayed put. He would much rather repair his soul weapon than bother with whatever this was.
Kazuki could not catch up to them and didn’t even bother to try. Besides from this distance, Marty could cover it with telepathy and she was already speaking to him. Her words though were not ones he wished to hear at this moment.
(KAZUKI! One of the enemies…One of the enemy Gods slipped through just as Mei and the others used the stargate. We must hurry and activate it once more before it’s too late!)
Kazuki’s eyes went wide in shock.
Had he miscalculated? Kori and the other two slave Gods were there with them. Not only that he had sent backup with Sasha and two more Gods. The enemy was only three Gods. Kazuki felt his heart sink into his stomach like a collapsing star.
(I have to activate the stargate as fast as possible and find them! Arc can you locate them, can you sense their whereabouts.)
(I’m already on it.)
As Kazuki felt as if he were standing on the edge of a knife, he could see Marty and Viz’s facial expressions suddenly change in the distance. They stared as if they had seen a ghost. It was then that Arc roared at Kazuki.
(MOVE!!!!)
Kazuki felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand. All of his power, every ounce of it poured out as he moved to the side but it was already too late. Arc as well tried to deflect this attack but it was too late. Arc had been focused on trying to find the kids and wasn’t paying attention.
Kazuki felt the muscles in his back tighten before a sharp pain. His chest then exploded and blood gushed outward as a gauntlet pierced out of his body.
Adigus had, to everyone’s disbelief returned. Even though he was suffering in agonizing pain, even though he was defeated and weakened to a point he could not use his full power and he risked death returning, he still had come back.
Chaotic space opened right inside Kazuki’s chest. Adigus’s attack was one meant to take Kazuki out no matter what.
Lestirius moved like lightning. His blade came sweeping downward and in one fell swoop, he decapitated The last Adigus in a single strike. He then turned around and reached for Kazuki but the power of this Chaotic space tear was already upon Kazuki. As Kazuki was being sucked into this tear, he tried to use every ounce of power but he was simply too close. A God wasn’t even guaranteed to escape from a tear this close let alone Kazuki who had just entered the Demigod stage.
Arc tried to lock space in place but it had used up too much energy earlier deflecting all of Adigus’s attacks and there was nothing it could do to stop Kazuki from being pulled in.
Lestirius desperately tried to extend his Divine Soul weapon and shouted.
“GRAB HOLD!”
Even this attempt however was in vain.
The edge of Lestirius’s blade slipped past Kazuki’s fingers and Kazuki was dragged into the depths of Chaotic space.
