Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 41
It was regrettable that Kazuki had to kill so many sandworms on the return trip. He wanted to bring as many as possible to Marty but these worms were relentless in their pursuit. Every hundred feet or so, another few worms would drill out of the wall and attack in front of him. In order to not get completely blocked off, Kazuki had no choice but to kill whatever lay in his path.
If he did not finish off the sandworms in front of him and then devour them once they were dead, he would be caught between a rock and a hard place as the pursuing worms would catch him from behind. Taking out one or two in front of him was a much easier option compared to the hundreds gaining on his ass.
It didn’t take long before Kazuki made his way to the now-empty junk room. This is where things became a bit difficult. Out of the tunnel and into this wide open space, it allowed his attackers to go heavier on the offensive. Giant tails can overgrown bodies weighing as much as planets came crashing down atop him. If these worms only weighed as much as a planet, Kazuki could easily handle him, but with his body being restricted, it made everything, including these large bodies, incredibly challenging. Their toughness and weight alone meant any direct hit would break everything in Kazuki’s body.
Dodging from side to side, Kazuki jumped onto a smaller sandworm and the worm bucked upward, launching him hundreds of feet into the air. Several Sandworms rose up high to meet the falling prey but Kazuki was not defenseless. He had learned a few things here and there. Reaching into his chest pocket, he pulled out a handful of talismans and threw them with precision. These talismans scattered and went in several different directions before sticking to a few of the sandworm’s bodies.
The very next moment, Kazuki activated them.
*Bang, Boom, Crack, Bam, Bang!*
Several deafening sounds echoed out all around. The talismans did nothing more than create loud explosive sounds. To Kazuki, it was just a bunch of noise. To these worms that could sense sound and movement through the ugly raised hairs located around their bodies. These noises were like a flash bang for one’s ears. The worms were stunned for half a second before they all began thrashing around violently. They smashed their environment causing the ground all around to crater and sink.
While they were thrown off their proverbial rocker, Kazuki took this chance to slash at one of the worms. He penetrated the worm’s thick flesh and used its body as a break as he slowed his descent. This worm erupted with a roaring cry but in the midst of the confusion, none of the other worms noticed. Kazuki then took off and reached the damaged stairs. At the same time, a shit ton of debris was kicked up by the beast’s chaotic reaction.
Kazuki spun his sword rapidly creating a vortex of destruction. Any debris that found its way to him was cut down and reduced to pebbles or deflected away entirely.
Racing up the stairs, he had a half-second head start but that didn’t last. The worms shook off the stunning effect and began their chase once more. Kazuki though made a mistake. He had run a good distance up the stairs when Arc called out to him.
(The worms from the other tunnel are headed in your direction. They’ll be upon you in no more than 5 minutes!)
(Damn, I got too caught up in it all. I drew them over with the sound talismans. Fuck!)
Kazuki realized the moment Arc told him the worms were on their way. Such a simple mistake and yet it would be costly. Kazuki was already having a bit of trouble with the worms already on his tail. If the number suddenly doubled or even tripled…Kazuki decided to change tactics. He couldn’t lead this many to Marty. All of the worms would not fit in the A.I. room in the first place, and even if they did, Kazuki did not know if this many worms could be put to sleep at the same time.
(I have to reduce their numbers and I have to do it fast.)
The gears in his mind began to turn rapidly. He stopped running up the steps and instead began running down. He took a new talisman and put a tiny bit of aura on it before severing his aura from it. He then took the talisman and threw it toward a sandworm. Kazuki had learned his lesson from last time and he wouldn’t just release his aura around these worms. Instead, by putting a fragment of aura on a talisman and severing it from him, he could get the effect he wished without risking his life.
Right as he tossed the talisman out, the closest worm opened its jaws and Kazuki didn’t hesitate to jump inside the mouth of the beast. As soon as he was inside, he stabbed his mucus sword into the creature’s mouth so he could anchor himself in place.
(Arc, open my ring and take out all of the mucus you can.)
Arc didn’t know why Kazuki wanted this but it wasn’t going to waste time arguing in a life or death situation. Arc activated Kazuki’s ring and extracted several tons of liquified mucus. While this was happening, the worm Kazuki was inside, did not take Kazuki’s presence lightly and began to go wild. It slammed its body hard into the walls and ceiling and into other worms as well but Kazuki held onto his sword for dear life.
The other worms also were confused. A few tried to sense what was going on but only became even more confused. a few of the bigger ones though only knew that Kazuki hid inside a smaller worm. These Giant sandworms did not care about the other worm. Their prey was inside and they were determined to get it. All at once, these Giant sandworms cornered the smaller worm before they began slamming their own bodies into it and swinging their tails like sledgehammers into the smaller worm.
They were trying to destroy the other worm and crack its body open like an oyster to get the pearl inside. This smaller worm stood no chance as its body was pummeled to death. it only took a few seconds before the worm was completely ripped open by their mighty blows. If these sand worms had eyes, the moment they ripped open the other worm they would all be left terrified as they would be met with Kazuki’s demonic grin.
Kazuki leaped as high as he could from the beast’s corpse and the body vanished as he devoured it. The moment he leaped up, hundreds of thousands of tiny objects followed him upward. If one were to look closely, the objects were all shaped like small needles. Each needle was about a hundredth as thick as a single human hair. Each one made from the hardened mucus of the worms themselves.
In Kazuki’s hands, he held a new weapon. Made from the same mucus, it was a simple paddle. Flat, long, and wide. Kazuki cocked back and filling his arms with ki and aura strengthening, he swung with everything he had.
*BAM!*
Tens of thousands of these tiny needles were struck with a force that could destroy several Lower Realms in a single blow. These hardened needles flew threw the air and ripped the wind apart with such force that the friction caused the surroundings to grow incredibly hot. These needles went from in front of Kazuki to directly in front of the sandworms at such a speed that it was almost like they teleported before they pierced into everything in sight.
All at once, a dozen worms fell to the ground with heavy thuds, they died instantly. Kazuki liked this result but he didn’t love it. He had hit almost a hundred worms but had only killed a little more than 10. Still, this was a huge blow. The other worms that didn’t die instantly were lucky or rather unlucky as they had tiyn hairs that had penetrated their bodies all over. These tiny hairs were launched forward like a shotgun blast and entered and embedded themselves all over the worms.
The pain Kazuki did not even need to guess if it was excruciating because the roars erupted and rang out constantly. The roars of these worms were enough that the ceiling began to collapse all around. Kazuki no longer kept his voice in and laughed outwardly.
*Hah*
“YOU FUCKERS HAVE PLAYED ME LONG ENOUGH! HAVE A TASTE OF TRUE FEAR!”
Kazuki devoured the worms that had died and his strength grew ever so slightly. Winding back with this paddle he struck out again, delivering tens of thousands of more needles of destruction to his enemies. Kazuki had flipped the script and was no longer the one who needed to fear. From this moment on, this was his playground.
