Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 42

Swinging the paddle left and right, he delivered death and destruction to his many enemies. Dozens fell by the second. Once they were dead, Kazuki devoured their bodies. Thanks to his soul reading ability absorbing their souls and repairing the damage to his own soul, the moment he devoured their bodies, his own strength continued to grow. This caused his needles to fly ever faster with greater piercing power due to his growing strength.

In half a second, Kazuki had dispensed out around a hundred thousand of these tiny needles. After he devoured the bodies, the needles that were left inside fell to the ground. Using his ki, he simply picked up all of his needles and continued to swing the paddle at his side.

Each swing contained enough strength to destroy several Lower Realms. In this world though, it was just enough to send his sharp weapons flying and piercing into the sandworms. There had been several hundred worms when he started swinging his weapon, but not even a minute in, all of them were dead and devoured.

Arc was surprised by this feat. He knew how tough the worm’s flesh was.

(Kazuki, that was an interesting idea. To think you would use the beast’s own mucus to pierce their flesh and kill them. Your brain certainly has its own way of thinking.)

(Is that a compliment?)

(Not so much a compliment as it’s just stating a fact. Your way of thinking is just too different from the norm. Not that I dislike it. I just don’t understand it is all.)

(Damn, and here I thought you’d actually give me some credit for once.)

(Credit, what credit, all you did was something strange. Yes, you killed a lot of worms but aren’t you supposed to be saving them for your friend upstairs? If you were smarter you would have disabled the creatures.)

(Are you joking right now? If I didn’t kill these worms then when the other ones arri

*BANG!*

Speak of the devil and he shall appear. Several worms broke through the wall collapsing part of the stairs as they immediately attacked Kazuki.

(Dman, you said they were going to take longer.)

(I could only estimate based on their current speed. As you began your slaughter, they noticed and sped up.)

Kazuki dodged a worm smashing down atop him. He jumped toward a large chunk of ceiling falling down nearby. Grabbing hold of it he spun in the air and tossed it toward the closest worm.

(Why didn’t you tell me they were closing in and would be here at any moment.)

(I wanted to but you were losing yourself in the fight. It’s hard to get your attention in such times.)

The large chunk of ceiling shattered and knocked one of the worms back slightly. Kazuki ignored Arc before swinging his paddle once again. This time though was different. Earlier he didn’t aim and just took out as many opponents as possible. On this attack, he aimed precisely for the backs of the beasts.

Similar to other animals, these worms had a skeletal structure and with it came overdeveloped spinal columns. The needles pierced the worms back in several spots and Kazuki observed carefully, taking in the monster’s reaction.

The needles hit a particular spot and the worm suddenly collapsed. It twitched here and there but besides that, it could move no longer and posed no threat.

(So that’s the place to hit.)

(Whatever you’re stabbing within, that seems to paralyze them.)

(Oh really, I didn’t notice.)

This time it was Arc who was annoyed at Kazuki’s sarcastic tone. Kazuki had to change tactics for Marty’s sake. Instead of just killing indiscriminately, he would paralyze these beasts and then kill them near Marty so as to transfer the divine power trapped within them to her. Before all of that though, first, he needed to lead these creatures closer to the A.I. room. otherwise, he would have to drag these heavy sons of bitches up the steps and there was no way in hell he was doing that again and again.

Not only that, he didn’t even believe he could pull off such a feat. Combined with this dying world’s unique weight, there was no way he would be able to lift these heavy motherfuckers more than a few inches off the ground.

Kazuki stomped his feet and roared and shouted over and over again as he led the beasts up the steps. For miles, he did this until he came to the repaired wall separating them from Marty and the A.I. room. As soon as he got close enough to the wall, Kazuki turned on the beasts. Weapon in hand, the needles began flying with each smashing blow.

This time he aimed carefully before hitting the creatures in the back. Several beasts fell to the ground and moved no more. They emitted low cries of agony but besides that, they had no more fight in them.

*Bam*

The wall beside Kazuki was smashed as a tail flew right by his head. Kazuki tucked and rolled across the steps and jumped on top of another worm, a mucus needle in his hand he smashed it into the back of a worm with his hammer. As the woman fell, Kazuki used its momentum to jump to the ceiling. With a thought, Arc granted him his sword from his storage ring. With his blade in his hand, he instantly thrust it up above and anchored himself to the ceiling upside down like a bat.

Hanging upside down, he swung his paddle back and forth, launching needles at lightning speeds. Even under the suppression of this world, his hands moved in a blurred fashion as if they were vanishing before the eye. This manner of speed would leave Marty speechless and doubtful of Kazuki’s actual abilities. Becuase these skills were just far too above anything someone below the 6th stage should be capable of.

After taking care of 30 more worms, they grew wiser about what Kazuki was doing. Many of them backed up and some even turned in such a way that disallowed their back to face Kazuki. Some even dove into the walls and drilled above the ceiling causing it to start to collapse. Kazuki was forced off the ceiling as it fell. The worms again rushed at him, trying to swallow him or smash into him with their oversized bodies.

Kazuki use his ki to pull one of the falling boulder-sized chunks of the ceiling toward him and once his feet touched it, he kicked away, which launched him forward like a human dart. He leaped into one of the worm’s mouths and used its body like a big meat shield. Just like last time the worms began to pummel this host worm and once again Kazuki waited until its body was to open from these attacks.

The paddle did its job and needles dug into more worms. Even if he couldn’t hit their backs, he knew these needles really hurt and so he took advantage of this knowledge and struck many in the face and body with it. He avoided using too much strength and allowed these needles to penetrate only a few inches into the flesh. This way when the worms moved, the exposed needles would scrap against the ground and would tug at the insides of the worms. Which of course caused excruciating pain.

Roars of pain came out one after another and Kazuki just laughed like a wild man as he ran around these monsters as if it were a game. He never lowered his guard but it was obvious that this was no longer just something he was doing to help his friend. Kazuki was clearly having fun taking these worms down. He was losing himself in the hunt.

A giant worm dove beneath the steps before coming up right beneath Kazuki’s feet. Kazuki switched to his hammer and smashed it down with all of his might.

*BANG!*

The worm’s face dented inward slightly as bones were crushed. The worm though was determined and continued rushing upward but this was its mistake. Kazuki could swing this hammer several thousand times in a split second.

*BAM BANG BAM BANG BANG BANG!*

The worm’s face broke and blood spurted out like a fountain. Kazuki was covered in foul blood but he didn’t stop. He ran ahead ready for more. The worms could tell something was wrong and several of them stop trying to close the distance. Instead, they opened their mouths and began firing mucus at him. This mucus cut through the air and hardened almost instantly. Kazuki switched to the sword once more and slashed downward at a projectile that had more face-to-face.

With all his might he cut downward. The projectile was cleaved in half and one half whizzed past his face and cut his cheek. Before the blood could spill down to his chin, it suddenly retreated upward back into his face and healed. The cut disappeared as if it were never there.

“GOOD TRY, MY TURN!”

Kazuki rushed forward as hundreds of projectiles flew at him. he weaved around them as if they were moving in slow motion. In actuality, they moved at high speed. He though was just a fraction faster. This fraction of difference was all he needed to come out unscathed. Kazuki jumped on one of the hairs attached to the worm and used it as a platform. Jumping from one hair to the other, he dragged his blade across the worm’s body like a brush. Instead of paint though…he only drew blood.
