Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 44
“Hmm, did you just compliment me?”
(Don’t let it go to your head. I simply think on this occasion, your idea was not as stupid as others you’ve had in the past, that’s all.)
…
Kazuki sighed inwardly before getting back to the worms.
“I still can’t tell if these creatures are stupid or smart. To think they would smash my body to such an extent even after it seemed as if I was dead. Maybe that was just out of anger on their part though. Either way, the plan worked. Can you get me the dissolving liquid now so I can remove this.”
Kazuki pointed at his own head as he said this. Arc opened Kauzki’s ring and removed some of the sandworms dissolving agent. Kazuki used his ki to wrap around this dissolving liquid before pulling it into his face. sinking through his pores, past his muscle and flesh, the dissolving liquid was applied to Kazuki’s skull.
(Still, to think you would use the mucus on your skull and with it hardened they couldn’t crack your head and destroy your brain. Even if you were confident, that was a bit much, no?)
Kazuki shook his head.
(It was necessary. Without applying a thin layer of mucus to my skull, like you said they would have destroyed my head. I still am unsure how far or how much I could be missing up there before I will no longer regenerate. I had to do what needed to be done.)
(You’ve already gone past a certain point. The day I connected your mind and soul with Zephris’s inside of the Miasma. At that time you were being destroyed by the Miasma at a rapid rate and there was nearly nothing left of you before that connection. I’d say at this point, as long as your soul is intact, rebuilding the flesh is easy, so long as you can still use magic.)
Kazuki shook his head.
(My regeneration is something unimaginable to most but I don’t know for sure what the limit is. As you say if I can use magic, I know how to use alchemy and can remake a body but in this place where the magic runs thin at best, magic is not an option. Not only that but one needs ingredients for a new body, what could I rebuild it out of…a sandworm, heh. I don’t think so. Without a body, I would be no more than a soul floating around and we both know how well souls do in this world. I would be gobbled up in half a second at the latest.)
(True enough, this place is not one for a wandering soul. If you can’t disguise your soul with ki or with Origin energy like you and me, it becomes rather difficult for our lesser quite quickly.)
Kazuki didn’t know how to feel with Arc comparing Demigods as his lesser but at the same time, at least when it came to hiding one’s soul, Kazuki did have the advantage over the Demigods living in this place.
(Now that the other worms have gone, how are you going to deal with all of these paralyzed worms? I mean you kept them alive so that they could be put to use but with your strength, transporting them beyond that wall…well you already know the difficulty even without me explaining.)
Arc was right. Kazuki’s strength was plenty but there was no way that he could lift these sandworms. Well at least he could not lift the giant sand worms nor the regular-sized ones but the offspring were a different story. The smaller children were around 5-10 feet. They were still incredibly heavy to lift under the suppression of this world but Kazuki could still manage them. The bigger ones though were certainly a problem.
Kazuki walked over to a giant sandworm that was paralyzed nearby and he grabbed it by the tail and tried to pull it. Kazuki’s feet instantly sank into the ground and his muscles strained. With ki and aura strengthening, he could feel the worm move…not even an inch.
There was no way he could lift it. With it having a powerful soul, so long a sit was still alive, he could not cheat the system by trying to draw it in using his devouring ability. He had thought it over and wanted to activate the spinning void within for a split second just to move the worm and he would cut the power off a fraction of a second alter. In this way, he wished to move the giant’s body inch by inch but this plan was not feasible.
With the creature alive, and with its powerful soul, Kazuki could not devour it. Only if it was dead could he do this but if he simply killed it, the divine power trapped inside of it would be released and would slip from his grasp. No, he needed to keep them alive until they were close enough to Marty to transfer the power from one body to hers.
Kazuki walked over to a regular-sized sandworm and once again tugged on its tail. This time, as his feet began to sink into the ground, the body began to move forward ever so slowly. Inch by inch, he moved it but damn was this difficult.
(The giant ones are too heavy and the regular ones I can move but it will waste far too much time to move hundreds of them. I have to think a little differently.)
Kazuki held his sword in his hand and thought for a moment.
(If I could cut through them, fast enough, I could possibly move just the part of the body that…No, that’s dumb. I don’t know this creature’s full physiology. Removing a part of it here or there could easily end up killing it and wasting not only my time but precious resources. Still, my own hands won’t cut it.)
(Kazuki, these things won’t just get up and move themselves. You need to come up with something as time is ticking away.)
(I know that. What about you, instead of increasing the pressure, can’t you come up with an idea?)
Arc thought for a while but it couldn’t think of anything.
(There’s got to be someway. The situation though just isn’t ideal. Without magic, it just makes things out of reach. How did the humans on Earth move things again? They had all those big metal machines. Those don’t run on magic, and they wouldn’t be suppressed or restricted here. You should have packed one of those in your storage ring.)
Kazuki felt annoyed but at the same time, Arc wasn’t too off. Kazuki began to think about Earth. at first, there was only sadness but Kazuki knew now was not the time and pushed that hurt to the back of his mind.
(The people of Earth did not have magic, at least most of them did not possess it. Science reigned supreme there. With it came engineering and so on. Going back to the basics, before they had all of those metal machines, they used what they had in brilliant but simple ways.)
Kazuki looked at his surroundings. The only thing around were worms and debris. Holding the sword in his hand, he began thinking about tools and more.
(If I can’t lift them, is there really no other way to move them…Couldn’t I…)
A thought, simple enough, came to mind. Explaining it to Arc, Arc once again was surprised.
(Another dumb but effective method. It should work Kazuki.)
After that, Kazuki and Arc gathered as much mucus as possible from the hundreds of fallen sandworms before shaping them the way he wished. When all was said in done, Kazuki came up with something super easy. Underneath a giant sandworm, there were dozens upon dozens of logs, each one made of mucus. Two large bolts were hammered on either side of the giant’s large body. Attached to these bolts were humongous chains. Each link was about half the size of an average man.
These two chains came together at the end and were connected to a harness sized for Kazuki. All of this was made from hardened mucus.
Kazuki was especially proud of the chains he made.
(With how hard this mucus becomes, making a rope out of it just isn’t tenable. It would only become a pole at that point and I need both flexibility and maneuverability. With chains though I can get both. With the logs made of mucus, I can pull these fat bastards over them and the rolling with give me a huge boost. So how do you like it Arc? I have just made the immovable, movable.)
Kazuki smirked and Arc if it had eyes would be rolling them right now.
(Yes yes yes, you are incredible. is that what you wish to hear? Just hurry up and pull the chains and get this over with or have you forgotten that we are running out of time?)
Kazuki’s smirk only grew as he began to tow the giant sandworm toward the separating wall.
(Just admit it, this was a pretty great idea. Come on, admit it, admit it.)
Arc’s voice became dry and haughty.
(Hmph, I’ll admit nothing. At least not to one who takes so long to come up with a simple idea and then brags about it.)
Kazuki chuckeld inside.
“Damn, is there any way for you to loosen up and remove that stick from your ass? I guess for now it’s wedged too deeply but don’t worry, traveling with me, I’ll show you the ropes, Hahaha.”
