Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 48
As the giant sandworms rampaged, no place seemed to be safe. Kazuki and Marty had climbed high onto some pillars and barely a few seconds passed before both of their pillars broke from the bottom up. The pair began to fall toward the sea of worms down below.
(USE YOUR AURA!)
Arc roared in Kazuki’s head. Kazuki didn’t hesitate. He used his aura to mimic the wind and he began to fly. Marty fell past him and he quickly swooped down and caught her. This was problematic. He could barely keep himself afloat with his own strength but now adding Marty’s weight, he could only sink at a fast rate.
“Kazuki forget me, just fly and get away from here!”
Kazuki shook his head.
“I’m not leaving, now shut up and let me concentrate.”
Kazuki’s aura moved like a storm as it began to rotate. Mimicking the wind, he artificially created air and turned it into a tornado. Their rapid descent was suddenly uplifted and the two began to rise little by little.
“Marty, the worms are ignoring us so we can use our aura’s for now.”
Marty understood and she dropped her barrier of ki and released her aura. Stretching it outward, she used it to push off the ground and keep herself in the air. She moved away from Kazuki and held her own.
“Thanks for that. Now let’s get away from these womr bastards.”
The world continued to shake and the worms continued to rampage like wild mindless beasts. Looking for a safe haven was hard fought. The worms spilled out like an endless river. Not only from the ground and the walls but there were some that even fell out from the ceiling up above. Kazuki and Marty had little choice and were forced to dodge the falling worms.
There was seemingly no safe place. Looking down at the constant flow, Kazuki got an idea.
“Marty come hide in a worm with me.”
Mary’s eyes went wide.
“What!?”
“Don’t worry. I’ve done it before, come along!”
Marty didn’t even have a chance to respond before Kazuki grabbed her arm and pulled her downward. He got a few dozen feet away from the river of worms and pulled out some needles.
(Since they don’t care about our presence right now, I can’t simply get one to open its mouth and swallow us.)
Kazuki looked for a juicy one before he found one that matched his idea. He already knew how to paralyze these worms now. His next objective wouldn’t be too difficult. With a target in sight, Kazuki bashed these needles forward with his paddle. The needles flew faster than most eyes could perceive before perfectly puncturing a giant sandworm in several spots.
The sandworm staggered momentarily before its mouth opened and then Kazuki launched another needle and paralyzed the creature completely.
“Ok let’s move!”
These words went nowhere because as soon as they moved, the other worms crawled over the top of the paralyzed sandworm causing it to be crushed completely.
“Damn it was crushed.”
“Jentson the worms can’t come to a standstill and have to keep moving or the results will be the same. You need to slow not just one but many at the same time. Also, the speed can’t be too slow or the ones in the back will quickly ride over top and crush those beneath.”
Kazuki nodded.
(Kazuki, don’t focus on a large area or encirclement. instead, focus on a few rows of them. That way there only affected by what’s directly behind them. If you slow an area of them it could cause the rest to go all over the place.)
Kazuki took both suggestions to heart. He and Marty flew away from the middle of the room and got as close to a wall as possible. Where they flew, the edges of this large room, the worms were being pressed more against the wall causing them to move closer to a straight line than the rest of the worms.
These worms were moving much more uniformly simply because they were forced to. This though made things easier for Kazuki. Kazuki tossed thousands of mucus needles into the air before slapping them with his strength. The needles flew with incredible accuracy as they hit dozens and dozens all at once. These needles hit perfectly and did not paralyze but instead caused the worms to slow down.
Their speed was decreased noticeably but not so much that they would be trampled beneath the others. Kazuki hit a nerve on a certain worm and its mouth opened without its control. Afterward, the pair dove down directly into the beast’s mouth before Kazuki withdrew his needles using his ki.
The jaws of the giant sand worm slammed shut and the two were left inside. Now they were in a moving worm and were simply along for the ride.
The movement inside was chaotic and the two were nearly tossed about but Kazuki pulled out his mucus chains and latched them around some of the beast’s jagged teeth making something similar to a swing. The pair climbed atop the chains and sat there in silence for a bit.
(Arc, what the fuck was that!? You said you could sense this entire world but your warning came way too late.)
(What did you expect? I told you before that my power was being depleted and I was running out but instead of supplying me with energy, you chose to give it to your little girlfriend here. Meanwhile, I’m expending energy telling you the location of your targets along with constantly activating your storage ring to move your shit. It is you who are failing me not the other way around.)
(Damn it all! Stop with the bullshit and start communicating, otherwise, our future will be nothing but darkness.)
(You told me to be more honest and state my opinion and you would take it seriously. You know there is little time left in this world, you know I need the energy left inside the core of this world and you knew I was running low on energy. I stated all of this but your priorities were askew. What more can I say to get it through to you? Do I have to dance like a monkey do I have to scream? You tell me Kazuki, what the fuck should I do to get you to listen?)
…
Kazuki went quiet. He didn’t know what to say to that. His thoughts were only on helping his friend and doing what’s right by her. In the end, he brushed aside all of Arc’s concerns. He was selfish in that regard and he knew it.
(Right…I understand.)
Kazuki knew he was to blame for that and took that in. He made a promise right then and there to be less close-minded in regards to Arc.
(Fine…What do you think we should do next? I’ll seriously take what you say into consideration so
(Stop, it’s the same things it’s always been. Get me to the core, plain and simple. From there I can do the rest. I’ll get us off of this dying heap so just do your part. Will you do that?)
Kazuki had no arguments or disagreements here. Marty was fine and there was nothing else needed to be done.
(Ok. The moment this rush of mad bulls settles, we’ll head straight to the core without delay.)
(Good.)
Kazuki was slightly annoyed but he said nothing else to Arc. With his head now quiet, he couldn’t help but notice a pair of eyes staring a hole through him. Marty had not averted her gaze since the moment they entered the worm.
“Why are you staring like that? Did something else happen to this handsome face of mine?”
Kazuki threw out a casual joke but Marty didn’t laugh at all. Instead, she spoke in a roundabout way.
“I couldn’t help but notice the way ya used your aura. It felt like the element of wind had gathered but it was entirely made up of aura. I’ve never seen something like this in all my years. I’ve always thought of aura as simple suppression and pressure. A force materialized from the soul to be a weapon more than a tool but the way ya used it leaned much heavier toward the tool side.”
“Is there a question somewhere in there?”
Marty shook her head.
“I said I wouldn’t ask any more questions. I said I would wait and if ya wanted to tell me, I’d gladly hear it out…so.”
“So?”
Marty looked as if she were on the edge of bursting. She had the same obsessive look she had when she held the weird piece of ancient junk tech.
“So…Is there anything ya want to tell me…Anything at all…I’m all ears…”
Kazuki sighed.
*Hah*
“Stop with the roundabout. If you wish to ask me something then just ask.”
“I don’t want to dive into your past or be nosy.”
“Forget it. If it’s something I feel like answering I’ll answer it, if it’s something I wish to leave off the table, I’ll just ask you to move on. So just ask and stop staring at me like I’m a freshly baked ham, it’s disturbing.”
Marty took a deep breath before she began to ask one thing after another nonstop. None of the questions pertained to his past but they were so constant, that Kazuki felt like his ears would fall off.
