Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 49

After giving her permission, Marty bombarded Kazuki with question after question. Kazuki felt like his ears would fall off at some point but thankfully she stopped and listened attentively, giving Kazuki small brief breaks in between.

Her questions mainly pertained to the way Kazuki used aura and how e was able to mimic the other elements. After giving an explanation, Marty still was unsure and wanted to take a look into Kazuki’s soul but she knew this would be too much so she relented.

“Still, I never knew aura could be manipulated in such a way. With this, you should be able to use regular magic with your aura instead.”

Kazuki nodded.

“True, and it would have helped greatly earlier but because of this world’s odd suppression and forceful weight, the results are pitiful. On basically any other world when I created that tornado and carried you off, I could have moved thousands of miles in a near instant and would have barely used a fraction of power. You saw though, the moment I caught you, I was just barely able to keep us both in the air.”

“That’s an interesting way of calling me fat, hehe.”

Kazuki shook his head.

“This world, if it was another, I’d be able to teleport us away but it’s so damn restricting. What would take me a fraction anywhere else is millions of times less effective. Even mimicking space I still can’t access my storage ring by myself let alone teleport anywhere.”

Marty nodded.

“Yes, ya can’t just think about your magic and physical body being suppressed but ya soul as well. All of these factors, I wondered for a long time what the cause is but now it makes sense. After what Arc and you mentioned, all of this weakness must be a direct result of the Ancient being. His soul still has enough potency to hold down all of us. Soon though we will no longer need to worry about that.”

“True, as long as we get to the core, Arc will handle the rest.”

“Thinking about it, if Arc is going to deal with the Ancient one’s soul, I can’t even begin to fathom just how powerful Arc is. Jentson, ya don’t know how lucky ya are.”

Kazuki simply nodded to this.

(Lucky, more like cursed.)

(Kazuki, you’d be blessed even if I were cursed. The power I can summon once I find my missing piece would be well worth it. At that point, I could easily take care of Sephra and anyone else you’ve ever held a grudge against. This is why we should fulfill my goal first and

(Arc! I told you I would help you find what you seek but first I will kill Sephra and anyone else that helped her. It must be through my own hands that the last breath is squeezed from her body. All the way until she goes limp and her soul is ground to dust.)

(You still think someone helped her, your grandfather?)

Kazuki was unsure himself. Orberus was his grandfather and Sephra was supposedly his prisoner and remained under his hand.

(Orberus should have known what she planned to do, after all, she was under his eye all this time. If he didn’t know, then…I just don’t believe he didn’t know.)

(So what does that mean exactly? Are you going to wage war not only against Sephra and whoever backs her but also against your own family? Sephra already is a God and yet she was your grandfather’s prisoner. A God that can control another God, just how powerful do you think he is? You know nothing of his capabilities nor how large his influence reaches. Most importantly, he also has the devouring ability. Even if he’s keeping it hidden, his strength will no doubt already have increased since the last time you two have met and it only continues to grow. Why go this solo route? Help me first and you will ultimately achieve what your heart so desires.)

Kazuki’s tone became cold in response to this.

(You presume to know what my heart desires. You think at the top of the list is vengeance. Even after seeing the most intimate of details within my memories. After knowing everything I’ve ever been through in my life, once again you show that you truly do not understand me.)

Arc thought for a moment. It felt it knew Kazuki even better than he knew himself in many regards but Kauzki’s words pricked Arc’s ego a bit before something occurred to it.

(Your family.)

This slipped from Arc and it realized it should not have mentioned it the moment it spoke and knew it crossed a line. Kazuki felt his rage rising and his heart started to thump like a war drum.

(DO…NOT…MENTION…THEM!)

Suddenly Kazuki felt Marty staring at him again and she asked.

“Jentson what’s wrong? It sounds like your heart is ready to explode from your chest and you’re ready to murder someone…Hopefully not me, hahaha.”

Kazuki’s ki began to circulate and his emotions calmed and his logic returned. Shaking his head he smiled.

“Sorry, I just have a lot on my mind. Ignore me.”

“Ignore ya. Were sitting hip to hip on this swing riding the inside of a giant sandworm. I can try but ya see how impossible of a task that can be right. How about ya talk about it? I may not be a good listener but I’m better than a wall.”

Kazuki laughed before jumping off of the chains.

“Thanks but it seems we’ve come to a stop. The stampede must be over. Let’s hurry to the core and finish this.”

Marty shrugged before following.

Once they left the beast’s mouth, they were greeted by tens of thousands of sandworms lying around here and there. It seems like whatever drove them away was no longer a concern. They were inside a large cavern. It seemed to stretch as far as the eye could see in this pitch-black area. The moment they stepped out, Marty swallowed hard. She wondered if she could still talk in the presence of these worms without them turning on her.

Standing perfectly still, she used her ki to pick up a nearby rock and with a thought, the rock was launched and hit the ground with a thud before shattering.

Nothing. No roars, no movement of any kind, even the fins atop their heads laid flat and still. She was relieved. To be in the middle of tens of thousands of an enemy that’s chased and hunted you for too many cycles to count, it was intense. Knowing she had some leeway, she spoke but only in a light whisper.

“Hey, before we go anywhere, there will most likely be more worms, so I’d like to make a request of ya.”

After a few moments, Marty was equipped with a freshly made helmet made from mucus along with a hammer and two chains. Tapping the helmet on her head, it made a low resounding thud noise which left her with a satisfied smile.

“Thanks but also why not give me a sword instead of a hammer and chains? I mean I’m grateful and all but a sword would be much better, no?”

Kazuki took out some needles and tossed them at a sandworm paralyzing it just in case. He then tossed his sword over to her and pointed at the worm.

“Try and stab it. I promise I won’t laugh.”

Marty was confused for a moment before she thrust the mucus blade forward with all of her strength. The blade bounced off the tough flesh and she stumbled backward a few steps.

“How?”

“You didn’t think it was because of these weapons alone that I could defeat them. You should have noticed by now my actual strength is well above yours.”

Kazuki curled his finger and the blade flew out of Marty’s hand and landed back in his. Kazuki stood next to the worm and held the sword in both hands. His ki and aura strengthening increased his strength by several fold before he stabbed his blade.

*CHk*

His sword pierced nearly up to his hand now. Kazuki was satisfied seeing this. Just a few hours ago he could only get it a little over halfway in but after devouring multiple worms before Marty awoke, his strength had continued to improve. Only now did he get to test it out again and he enjoyed the increase greatly.

Marty as well knew there was something strange with his strength and this only added to the mystery of who and what exactly was the old young Jentson.

“Ok, I’ll admit defeat on this front but why the hammer and chains?”

Kazuki said nothing again and simply pointed at the worm. Marty sighed before taking the hammer and swinging it at the worm with all her strength along with her ki.

*Bang*

The force of this blow sent the worm backward by nearly 30 feet. She was slightly shocked by the difference between the sword and the hammer.

“Now try the whip.”

She then looked at the chain and she made the connection with Kauzki’s words and she used it like an actual whip.

*Whchh*

The chain flew out and whipped. The very end snapped forward and hit the side of the worm. A huge laceration opened up across the beast’s body and it let out a roar filled with anguish. Marty looked down at the chain and hammer and was surprised.

“You lack strength but it isn’t the worst in the world. You may not be able to kill them straight on but with the hammer, you can knock back anything that you deem is too close and with the chains, you can whip them from a distance while really hurting them. Even if there still able to fight, will they want to reengage when they know you’ll whip the shit out of them and break their faces, I don’t think so?”

Marty’s eyes widened and she began to laugh like a maniac. With a helmet to protect her head and useful weapons, she felt she could actually stand toe to toe and no longer needed to fear them as much.

“Finally, it’s my turn to return what they’ve dished out all this time. Time for me to play, hehe.”

Kazuki just stared at Marty with a look that just said ok. He shook his head before heading off. Marty stopped her laughing halfway and chased after Kazuki.

“Jentson! Wait for me will ya!”
