Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 52

“Time for another meal.”

Right after Resadez said this, the giant king sandworm began to unfurl itself and rise up.

Kazuki and Marty continued rushing forward while the king sandworm opened its humongous jaws. A large suction force aimed upward as it tried to devour Arc’s energy but just as it looked like Arc would be devoured, a small barrier appeared around Arc and repelled the giant king’s power.

“This barrier, how. You should not be able to put up a fight. Stop struggling and get eaten!”

Resadez’s soul began to change shape and millions of tendrils formed all around its previous shapeless form. These tendrils were sharpened at the end and came stabbing slashing and piercing toward Arc but the barrier held firm. Now that Arc was close enough and witnessing both the worm’s power and Resadez’s power firsthand, something clicked.

“So this was your game Resadez. All this time I thought you were being consumed by the worm but being this close It’s obvious now. You and this worm, you two are actually one. This worm is actually being inhabited by you. It’s not eating your power but rather your slowly transferring the rest of your soul into its body to take it over. Now it makes sense, you agreed so fast it was suspicious and the false anger you displayed toward the worm king, all of it a ploy to get to me.”

Resadez didn’t even deny it.

“So I’ve been caught. Yes, I crushed the mind of this stupid worm long ago and for countless years I have been slowly but surely transferring my essence over. The worm is already a part of me. Then you show up. A juicy little snack. Once I absorb your all, I will have a further advantage. I’ve waited this long and bided my time so that I could be reborn, taking you for myself, It will jump-start my new foundation and I will be that much closer to completely regaining everything that was lost.”

Kazuki watched this all in shock.

(Now it makes sense. The reason the worms began to go wild on the surface, was all to get to Arc. Afterward, Resadez needed us to come to it so it must have acted as if it was losing power and made Arc believe this world was doomed. In the end, it would disappear but only because Resadez was planning to move the rest of its soul into that giant worm.)

“So what you mean to tell me is that this body of yours has the remaining bits of your soul. So if the you up here is destroyed and the you that is the worm is destroyed, that means you will be no more. Understood.”

Resadez suddenly realized that he had said too much.

(Kazuki, you heard this fool, destroy the worm.)

(What about you aren’t you in danger? We have to get you out and th

Arc quickly interrupted Kazuki.

(Wrong, I fear nothing here. Instead, you should be worried about yourself. If things don’t go well, you will die, for me though, I will simply flee. Now kill the worm and leave this bastard’s soul to me.)

Kauzki gave Maryt a look.

“We’re destroying the worm king.”

“What about the Resadez’s soul!?”

“Arc will handle him from here. If we destroy the worm, Resadez will not survive.”

Marty had her concerns but Arc and Jentson she trusted.

“Well, what are we waiting for?”

The two raced ahead, weapons in hand.

Resadez saw the two tiny beings rushing forward and couldn’t help but laugh.

“I was wondering why you showed no fear but to think it was because of these tiny beings. A seventh stage and a Demigod. I’ll eliminate them in a single move.”

Resadez began to glow with radiant light before a roar echoed out from him.

“DIE!”

With this one word the world shook and it contained enough energy to destroy thousands of Lower Realms. With it, Kazuki and Marty would be wiped from the face of the world but before it made it to the two, Arc made a move. Arc gathered its energy and called out.

“Third Form, SEVERING TEMPEST!”

To Kauzki’s disbelief, a blade of energy ripped out and cut through Resadez’s attack, severing all of the energy contained within and with it, saving both Kazuki and Marty.

Marty had no clue what just happened but understood that Arc had done something to protect them while Kazuki was stunned.

(Kazuki, did you think I wouldn’t pick up some tricks after witnessing your memories countless times?)

(No, I just didn’t expect this. You can already destroy other’s souls so I thought you would just destroy his soul and win.”

Arc wanted to slap Kazuki at this moment.

(You fool. I can do that to a simple tool or magic device not directly toward being as powerful as Resadez, not in this weakened state. For his actual attack, I needed something that requires less energy consumption and is much easier to use. With your brother’s sword forms, and Resadez using soul attacks I can sever any of his attacks that come after you two. If he still had magic, the tables would completely flip and we would all be decimated in an instant. Now stop dawdling and destroy the physical flesh. The longer this draws out, the weaker we both get. As the fight continues, I can’t predict who will run dry of power first SO GO!)

“What was that attack? What did you do to my power? For a moment it felt as if a part of me was cut away and a fragment of my soul was destroyed.”

Arc began to pulse with power.

“Do you think I would sit here and explain everything like a good little pet? It’s my turn!”

Arc’s energy began to slash outward and the air began to roar as if an actual thunderstorm was rocking the world. The sound of thunder rolled out continuously and everything rumbled and shook without stopping.

Slashing sword forms began severing pieces of Resadez soul here and there and he was enraged and shocked. His millions of arms stabbed out but Resadez was immediately on the defensive as his arms were being destroyed rapidly.

“NOOO! I WILL NOT LOSE, NOT AFTER COMING SO FAR!”

Down below, the Worm king’s eyes glowed and the ocean of worms responded in kind. Suddenly thousands upon thousands keeled over and died for seemingly no reason. In actuality, the king worm had killed them with a thought. Suddenly a wave of power rose from the corpses of thousands of worms and rushed up above joining Resadez.

The arms they were being chopped and slashed apart by the tens of thousands, suddenly they all grew and expanded. They became thicker and held denser energy. Now Arc’s sword forms were having difficulty cutting through them in one swing. Arms surrounded Arc and attacked from every angle. Arc cut through as many as possible but it was overwhelming. Arc was being bombarded from every side but the barrier held firm.

A desperate struggle played out in the air above between two extraordinary beings while down below, Kazuki and Marty had finally arrived in front of the worm king.

The two attacked at the same time, Kazuki with his sword and Marty with her hammer.

*Clang Bang!*

The two were easily repelled and were shocked to see that neither of them had left a single mark, a single scratch.

Both felt a heavy vibration ripple through their hands and up their arms.

“So damn tough. Jentson, how are we supposed to get thorugh this thing’s flesh!?”

Just as Marty said this, the fin atop the king worm’s head snapped in their direction and it opened its mouth, trying to devour their souls. It only took a half second to understand that it could not detect their souls and changed tactics. It rose up high into the air, stretching itself up for miles. Once it was as extended as possible, it proceeded to come slamming down like a godly meteor.

“MOVE!”

It took Marty every ounce of strength to get out of the way of its incoming body and Kazuki as well had to push himself a bit before they just got out of the way.

*BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!*

The ground instantly caved in and suddenly everything was falling. Kazuki, Marty, the worm king along with hundreds of thousands of worms. All of them fell further and further down. With their current weight and the acceleration they picked up as they fell, very quickly they were falling at a dangerous speed.

Kazuki and Marty both used their ki to reach out toward the wall and grab on.

“With Kazuki’s weight much less compared to Marty and his ki being stronger, he was able to cling to the wall without trouble but Marty had just barely taken hold of the wall when a chunk of the wall was ripped out by her and she continued to fall down faster and faster.
