Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 64
After hearing Kazuki’s tale of accidentally entering a negative zone and being flung out to who knows where Samuel and everyone else were left speechless.
“You see, it’s a hard story to believe but it is the truth. I’m particularly lucky actually. I could have ended up anywhere but thankfully I ended up in a place where I met Marty. Thanks to her kindness, I have managed up until now.”
Marty nodded along, backing up his claims.
“Jentson is definitely lucky. I could have taken advantage of him in several ways hehe but seeing his old weathered face, I couldn’t bring myself to mistreat him and we ended up becoming friends.”
Simmons was surprised by how generous Marty was.
“To have a demigod by his side to help him out, what a great friendship you two must have.”
Marty punched Kazuki in the arm.
“Hanging around this guy, I’ve found him to be quite entertaining. It would be too boring to leave him alone.”
“So Jentson you are from the Lower Realms then you miss Marty is from the Higher Realms then?”
Marty nodded.
“I am from a star path called Ebulas and inside that cluster of stars and planets I am from a planet called New Agius.”
“Ah, I have heard of New Agius. The Grantius Library is located there. They are said to have some of the wisest scholars there. You actually originate from such a world. You must know some of the famous masters there?”
Marty shook her head.
“Only in name. I was no more than a poor cultivator there when I was a child. Only after I left a long time ago did I reach the demigod stage. Back then though, I never even came across an of the scholars, we were in separate worlds so to speak.”
Marty wore a bit of a bitter expression. Samuel elbowed Simmons in the side.
“You see what your casual words have done, you’ve upset her. Don’t worry miss Marty, I’ll discipline my man here.”
Marty shook her head.
“That’s not necessary. I just remembered some things I’d rather not remember right now, that’s all. I wouldn’t hold a grudge over something so trivial, Simmons did nothing wrong.”
Simmons was already bowing when Kazuki stopped him.
“Forget it, she already said her peace.”
Simmons glanced at Samuel and Samuel nodded and gestured for him to stop.
“Let’s forget about such things and get back to the main topic. Sir Jentson, lady Marty, about the deal I proposed earlier. Will you accept it?”
Samuel still had the divine crystal in his hand. Kazuki pretended to think before he pointed at a bracelet Samuel was wearing on his wrist.
“I think it can be acceptable but the down payment needs to be swapped. I’ll take that bracelet there in place of the divine crystals for the first part of the reward.”
Samuel was a bit confused and Simmons became nervous and was about to say something when Samuel stopped him with a gesture once more.
“Could I ask as to the reason you want this particular bracelet when I have several other things that are of equal value or are worth even greater?”
Kazuki shrugged.
“Some things are indeed worth more than others but I have a feeling that this bracelet means something to you.”
Arc could sense two separate energies dwelling within this bracelet. One was a bit of Origin energy while the other was a Godly aura. Arc could sense that the Godly aura was similar to the boy’s own soul. Knowing this, Arc put two and two together and guessed the one who gave the bracelet to Samuel was of relation in some way shape, or form. With this information, it was not unreasonable to suggest that this was given to Samuel by someone who cared for him and therefore it might have sentimental value.
Arc simply wanted this bracelet for the origin energy within and would have just taken it if Kazuki and Marty were willing to kill these witnesses. Since the pair would not though, it meant if Arc simply stole the energy inside, the other party would be aware and they could become enemies. Since Arc was not sure of how powerful their backing was, Arc decided not to make such enemies easily.
Kazuki understood this and decided to use the information in a different way.
“If it does mean something to you, then you would most likely be wanting it back at some point. Since I don’t know you or your family and can’t take your word then holding onto something of yours that holds meaning, I will most likely get my actual payment later.
Samuel nodded before taking the bracelet off and tossing it to Kazuki.
“Young Master you can’t. The Lord will not be happy.”
Samuel glared at Simmons causing him to cease his blabbering mouth.
Nodding away, Samuels just went ahead and told the pair.
“Your right, this was a gift given to me by my father. It means a great deal to me as it is the only gift I have ever received from him so yes, it is precious to me. For now, though, it shall be a down payment. When we reach the city, I will give the two of you your reward in full and I will be expecting my property back unmolested and undamaged.”
Kazuki took a look at the bracelet. It seemed normal on the surface. A single piece of gold with no decoration or anything else fancy. With his soul reading ability he could sense the two energies within along with a powerful barrier of protection.
(If I were to wear this bracelet without the owner’s permission the godly aura within would strike at and destroy my soul. Now that is deceptively cool.)
Kazuki stored the bracelet away in his ring before extending a hand.
“We have a deal.”
Samuel shook his hand and gave a nod.
“So shall we set out now or do you two need to rest after the battle.”
A few people aboard felt bitter hearing this from their young master. The deal that was struck was one where only the three involved parties would be able to leave. This meant, they as servants would have to stay behind or fly themselves. To stay behind would mean they would possibly have to endure other attacks by any scum who saw them as an easy target. The other option which was worse would involve them trying to get to the city with their own power.
Depending on the distance and their speed, it could take them months or even years to travel the distance and reach the city. This also included fighting whatever they encountered on the way there. Beasts, monsters, more bandits. Going out into the wilds by themselves, was not an option.
Just as they felt sour on the idea of being left behind, Kazuki spoke up.
“We can leave but first let’s fix this ship.”
All ears perked up hearing his including Marty.
Even Kazuki who said it didn’t say t with much confidence, instead it was Arc who convinced him to say it.
“Sir Jentson, you can fix my Vajra ship? I thought we would have to take lady Marty’s glider.”
“I can’t guarantee it but at least I’ll give it a shot.”
Hearing this, the hope these servants had were dashed as a few whispered amongst themselves.
“Of course, he can’t just fix it, and here I was getting hopeful.”
“We don’t know it yet, maybe he really can fix it. Let’s stay on the positive side.”
“What a joke. These Vajra ships take expert craftsmen coming together to build. It takes them tens of years just to build and that’s when they have everything they need and are in the right environment. Out in the wilds away from a city, there’s no shot.”
Disappointment began to spread around the ship once again.
“Simmons, show Sir Jentson to the core and give him access to whatever he needs. I don’t know if you can fix my ship or not but if you can I will further your reward without question.”
Kazuki nodded before Simmons with a doubtful expression escorted Kazuki to a certain room below deck.
Simmons waved his hand and the wall opened up revealing another room. The room was small and only held a core that was embedded in a platform that rose from the ground.
“Sir I don’t know if you really can fix it but we would all be grateful if you could.”
Kazuki looked around and he had no clue what to do.
(Arc, now what? You told me to say all that fixing bullshit, what are you going to do? I mean do you even know anything about this stuff?)
Arc chuckled inwardly.
(Kazuki, My knowledge is quite extensive. The moment I connected with that so-called piece of junk that teleported us here, my mind was filled with knowledge. That ancient tech is actually in many ways more advanced than this ship.)
Arc accessed Kazuki’s ring and several pieces of ancient tech fell out. Removing the core from the platform, Arc sensed its inner workings and found the problem immediately.
(Hmm, that’s odd. Several chains or rather lines of inscriptions have been ruined.)
Arc combined several pieces of ancient tech and they formed a half-open box. Placing the damaged core inside, a light appeared and scanned the core. A moment later, Arc removed the damaged core and just stored it inside Kazuki’s ring, then Arc took a core from the mountain of recovered tech they brought with them and placed it in the strange device. Once more, light filled the box and seemed to scan the core.
Arc stored the newly built box of scrap and took this new core and placed it back in the platform.
(Kazuki that should do it.)
Kazuki just looked like he was confused.
(Wait, what do you mean that should do it, what did you even do?)
