Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 66

The ship soared through the air like a shooting star. Its speed was comparable to Marty’s glider but its maneuverability was obviously less. Where it surpassed the glider was in its features. Kazuki was surprised to see people walking to and fro atop the Vajra ship’s deck. There was artificial gravity to keep everyone and everything on the ship. This prevented people from falling overboard.

Walking to the side of the ship, Kazuki looked past the edge and could see and sense a thin layer of energy. Samuel followed his sight.

“Sir Jentson are you curious about my ship?”

“Yes, As I said I’ve come from the Lower Realms, there are no ships like this down there. If you want to get from place to place you have to use your own power for the most part.”

Samuel nodded along.

“Father said the Lower Realms are a backwater place so it makes sense you all would not have such fine craftsmanship dow

Samuel’s words stopped as Kazuki glanced at him.

“Er, I didn’t mean that Sir is a backwater type of person. I just mea

“It’s fine, I know what you meant. Continue.”

“Father said that down in the Lower Realms, it’s much easier to travel around. There is no chaotic space in the Lower Realms so everyone can travel almost instantly to any place they choose. Sometimes I envy that fact. Up here everything takes a long time to get to unless you are allowed to use a stargate.”

Kazuki didn’t correct the boy. When it came to traveling in a Lower Realm only those with enough power could teleport and for that, they either needed to know how to manipulate space or needed a magic tool that could do it for them. Kazuki wondered if there was a tool in these Higher Realms that could do the same and just so happen to glance at Arc.

“Your father seems quite knowledgable. Makes sense since he’s a merchant, knowing a multitude of things can only be an advantage.”

Samuel nodded proudly before he became a bit sad.

“Father knows many things because he devotes a lot of time to learning new things and his businesses. He’s…very busy.”

“I’m sure he is. Especially since he sent his son to help him take care of business in another city.”

Once more Samuel smiled.

“This is a big responsibility. I’ll be taking over a branch of our business there. It’s one of the biggest merchant stores in the city, our rivals are always trying to interfere and push us out. Since father is so busy, he needed someone he can trust to take care of things there while he deals with other important things. That’s why I can’t mess things up. I have to make sure everything goes well and make father proud.”

Samuel went quiet and looked out into the distance. Kazuki sense a lot of turmoil in the boy’s soul. Excitement, worry, fear, pride, all of it was there.

Kazuki pointed at the thin energy covering the entire ship and changed the topic back.

“So you were going to tell me about this ship. I see it has a barrier protecting it but in that case, how were you attacked in the first place?”

Samuel shook his head.

“Some ships have weak barriers that can only deflect creatures and other beings below the 7th stage. Ours can block not only 7th stage beings but it can also handle several attacks from a Demigod before it fails but something went wrong. My ship just stopped working for some strange reason and the barriers even fell after only a few attacks by those scum bags. It’s really strange. That’s why even though you got us up and running, I would really like to send my ship in to be looked at. Not that I don’t trust your skills Sir Jentson, I just have to make sure so another incident like this one doesn’t happen again. This was way too close.”

“It’s fine, I would want to know as well. So tell me more about this ship. Besides you and Simmons, who else can operate the ship?”

“Besides us two no one. This ship was a gift from father. His power is tied to it so it can only be operated by those he gave permission. After father, if one wants to access anything else they need my permission or Simmons and still, these people can not fly the ship or things like that.”

“Hmm, it seems like this thing has plenty of security features.”

“Yep. Father made sure that nothing would happen to me. That’s why I don’t understand how this could have happened.”

“Hmm, that is odd. Not only did your ship stop flying but its barrier also failed. Add the fact that your ship remained in the air so only the flying aspect and the barrier were affected. On top of that, an enemy just so happened to be near and they attacked you. In this world where it takes weeks, months, or even years to travel from one city to another, and they just so happened to run into you, Strange. My friend Marty warned me the moment we arrived in this world. She told me that no matter what, we should not mess with nor get in the way of anyone who owns a Vajra ship because they would most likely be big shots. That’s common knowledge around these parts yet the people who attacked you didn’t hesitate to do so. You could have had a Demigod on board or several Demigods or even a God yet they attacked with some fighters and a single demigod. What would your enemy have done then, why risk it? It really is strange is it not?”

As Kazuki went on and on, Samuel’s expression quickly began to change as things weren’t adding up. Suddenly his voice lowered and he asked.

“Sir Jentson, when you put it like that… these many things add up to something foul, at the very least it’s suspicious. Are you saying…sabotage?”

“I’m not saying it is but I’m also not saying it isn’t. Tell me, why did your father send you to this city, what was the problem with the business?”

Samuel went quiet.

“Maybe that’s too much. You probably have secrets or other things you don’t wish t divulge and that’s fine. I have a theory though if you’d like to hear it.”

Samuel nodded before getting closer to Kazuki. Kazuki was about to speak when he could see many eyes on his back.

“Before that, I haven’t had much in the ways of food or drink since arriving. As your guest, surely you wouldn’t let me go hungry.”

Samuel was a little confused at first. Kazuki was obviously at the 7th stage so he should no longer require food or drink. Only now did Samuel notice looks peering over and he quickly got the hint.

“Of course, You are my guest even if you don’t need food and things like that, delicious food is something anyone would still enjoy. I have lots of different things you can’t find in the Lower Realms, come Sir Jentson, Lady Marty.”

Marty wasn’t even paying attention and was studying the ship and comparing it to her glider with a somewhat smug expression when Samuel called out to her. She was about to just ignore the kid but Kazuki called out through her mind.

(Marty, come join us. We need to discuss a few things.)

“Sure, It’s been so long since I’ve last eaten food, I feel like I’ve forgotten the taste.”

The three of them headed inside a private cabin and Simmons quickly followed after them. Samuel thought nothing of it but then Kazuki stopped him.

“Don’t you need to fly the ship?”

Simmons looked at Samuel for some support but Samuel sensed something from Kazuki’s tone and ushered Simmons away.

“Simmons I’ve to entertain my guest, you stay out here and make sure nothing else goes wrong.”

“But young master, we don’t know these people. I can fly the ship without eyes. Shouldn’t I accompany you just in case?”

“In case what, these two saved us and they are stronger than anyone here. If they wanted to do something they already could have. Where did your trust suddenly go? it was you who invited them in the first place. Noe wait out here, that’s final.”

Simmons could only bow respectfully before the doors shut in his face. once again Kazuki felt malice from Simmon’s soul.

“So Sir Jentson what is

Before Samuel could finish his sentence, Kazuki held a finger over his own lips and Samuel went quiet. Kazuki released his aura along with his aura breath and a layer of ki into the surroundings, creating many layers of a barrier. With his aura breath, he would be able to suppress weaker opponents soul’s and magic and with his aura, he would be able to easily sense anyone trying to listen in. Finally, with his ki, he could disrupt their magic without the other knowing what he had done.

In this way, he cut off any outsider that wasn’t a powerful demigod or above. Marty could feel her own soul being affected slightly and she was surprised that Kazuki had another secret she didn’t know about. She understood something was up though and waited for him to speak.

“Now that we are truly alone, I will just say it. I believe your man Simmons is a traitor.”
