Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 74
Later on, Marty was chatting happily with the rest of the crew while Kazuki was sitting in a corner by himself, his thoughts were his alone. He was thinking about his previous fights. He went over the short-lived battle and looked for any mistakes he may have made as well as what he should have done.
Kazuki had amazing powers and the last fight was easy but his battle with the Sand King was anything but. He could rely on his own strength only up to a certain point. Beyond that, he needed to get creative. He needed to think outside the box to defeat opponents that could not be defeated. One thing he realized while going over the previous hardships, one major factor was his mobility.
When he felt like he couldn’t fight, the next best option would be to flee. Kazuki did not see this as a cowardly act. In a universe where the enemy can destroy you with a wave of a hand, it’s only natural to retreat. Kazuki’s problem though was how would he escape those that could decide his fate with that wave.
Kazuki opened his storage ring and his Vajra ship appeared before him. It was shaped like a large sword and contained a divine core with divine energy.
(If I face other opponents that I can’t deal with, this will be another lifeline for me. I need to make sure this will actually be a benefit and not a curse.)
As Samuel’s ship was flying at high speed, Kazuki could not just fly along next to it with his own Vajra sword ship. The reason being was simple, this sword was not as fast as Samuele’s ship.
(That Demigod fled with everything he had but Marty was able to catch up to this sword with her glider and her glider isn’t necessarily faster than Samuel’s ship. I would have liked to read our enemy’s memories to see learn more about Vajra ships but there was simply no time. Not to mention he most likely would have self-destructed rather than allow me to witness the details of his soul. I need to practice with this ship as well as find a way to move even faster. If I could get a hold of a Vajra ship that was faster than even a God, I would never need to fear anyone.)
Arc was annoyed.
(Your thoughts are too simple. These ships are not just something anyone can obtain. Not only that but to get hold of something that can move even faster than a God, heh, good luck with that dream. Besides once I have my missing piece, there will be nothing that can compete with me. You won’t need to run.)
(Do you mind staying out of my head? Your constant invasion is annoying. More than that, you keep talking really big but you don’t even have a single clue where this missing piece of yours is located. Not only that why are you so sure that once you recover it you will be this crazy unstoppable force?)
(I would gladly stay out of your head if that was a possibility at this point but your childish thoughts are so damn loud, that it is almost impossible for e to not hear them. Yes I don’t currently have a clue where my missing piece is but I’ve said it before, the more Origin energy I absorb, the more my knowledge grows. Eventually, it shall be revealed. As for the last part, well, I have my own secrets and you need not know.)
Kazuki smirked.
(Secrets you say…Sure. More like you yourself don’t really know. Your missing piece could in fact be something that seals you away or destroys you entirely. Have you not thought about why you were separated from this missing piece of yours and why you hold no memories of it? You have no idea what it even looks like. Everything you know could be false.)
Arc didn’t respond after that and Kazuki felt he had struck a nerve but he didn’t really care at this point.
He took a look inward and inspected his soul. His soul had healed a fraction more after killing another demigod. The axe wielder was weak and so too was his soul. Because of this, even though he was a demigod, Kazuki barely benefitted from it. His soul was still damaged but at the same time, it was still improving. He could sense that it was on the verge of a transformation. All he needed was a final push but a few demigods here and there would not get him over the edge. He needed something more.
(How much more do I need?)
Kazuki thought about the mountain of ancient tech he had received from the ancient ones decaying eye. He thought more about how to remove the soul mark from the devices he had picked up. Arc had shared some knowledge on how to do such a thing but Kazuki was still unsure if it was possible for him.
(Arc. If I can remove the soul from a demigod’s divine energy, could I then use that divine energy?)
Arc was quiet for a moment before he asked curiously.
(And for what reason would you even want to do that?)
Kazuki shrugged.
(I don’t know how long or even what I will need to finish repairing the last part of my soul and step into the demigod stage. Because of that, I thought it may be useful to continue growing my strength in different aspects. For example. Say I got a hold of a demigod’s soul weapon. If I could destroy their soul before they self-destructed, in theory, shouldn’t I be able to take control of said weapon? I would fill it with my own aura and control it. To have a soul weapon, my powers would climb by a wide margin, and at that point, I would have a weapon to go against other divine soul weapons.)
(Do you think it is that easy? Have you already forgotten your last fight on this very deck? Your opponent was filled with your needles and he struck many of your needles with his soul weapon. When that happened your aura controlling the needles was destroyed. Your soul is stronger in many regards but weaker in other areas. Because of this, their soul weapon could still end your life with a single scratch. You having a Soul weapon would be of no help in the end. Their divine soul would simply crush yours. Your aura may be able to compete with some of their auras but in simple terms that is merely a type of pressure from the soul. What they use is the actual dagger so to speak.)
Kazuki was disappointed to hear this.
(Not only that but Soul weapons are special. Most of them are made from a person’s own soul and flesh. Yes, some are made by expert craftsmen but the vast majority are personal. A weapon that is made up of a soul, how do you think you would be able to be rid of that soul without destroying the weapon that’s materials consist of a soul? I haven’t personally tried it as I’ve never even thought of it but if I did, I predict the soul weapon would fall apart and disintegrate shortly after a soul is destroyed or removed from it. Replacing it with your own thereafter would most likely also not work. It would be like an organ transplant. The soul weapon would recognize that you were not the original owner and it would reject you. All around it is an interesting but at the same time stupid idea.)
(Didn’t ask for that extra part but I get it, bad idea.)
Kazuki went back to ignoring Arc.
Kazuki gave up on the idea and half a moment later, Samuel stepped out of his room and came over.
Sir Jentson, Lady Marty, could I please have a word?
Kazuki gave a nod and Marty wrapped up her chat with the crew and they went back into his room. Sitting down, Samuel just came right out and said it.
“Sir Jentson, Lady Marty, I need your help. Please, help me crush my enemies and rescue Simmon’s family.”
Kazuki and Marty shared a look.
“Crush your enemies. We were hired to escort you safely to the city and no more. Asking for more, especially when we don’t even know the environment and what we’re exactly getting into. That is a lot to ask, no?”
Samuel nodded.
“You are right, what I’m asking is a lot but the rewards would be even greater.”
Marty shook her head.
“Ain’t everything about a reward. The more we go along with this the more we’d be dragged into. It’s one thing fighting out here in the wilds, where there are no rules and no laws but going into a city is completely different. There are laws and rulers enforcing those laws. You asked us to crush your enemies but in a city with enforcers and factions, we can’t just do whatever we wish. What your asking for isn’t something we can just simply accept.”
