Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 88
After passing a random alley, Kazuki suddenly felt eyes watching him from the shadows. He took a look but found no one nearby.
(Arc, was there someone watching us just now?)
(Yes, however the moment this person took notice of me they ran away like a coward.)
(Was it a God, what did they want?)
Kazuki felt the hairs on the back of his neck raise. A hidden expert that avoided his senses and was curious about him, could not be considered a good thing.
(Now how would I know what they want? I cannot read minds, well I can’t read other minds besides yours. As for whether or not they were a God, I didn’t get a chance to find out. They left rather quickly. For them to vanish the moment I take notice, most likely they were of that caliber.)
“Jentson what’s wrong? ya just stopped in the middle of the road like a weirdo.”
Kazuki shook his head.
“It…It was nothing. Let’s get to the arena and earn our fortune.”
Marty shrugged before the three continued heading deeper into the city.
As they walked, once more a curious pair of eyes followed their backs.

Further into the city, in the biggest castle and in the tallest tower, a tall man sat in a meditative position. A single great sword orbited around him and gave off a terrifying aura.
The man was in his own thoughts when a voice came in through the other side of the door.
“Master, I have news.”
The large great sword disappeared and the man’s eyes snapped open.
“Enter.”
The door opened and a man with a snake’s head walked in. He kneeled before this large man.
“Master it’s about the Cortail’s fourth son.”
The snake servant held out a small crystal orb in front of him but did not get up to his feet until his master allowed it.
The large man slowly stood up and he towered over his servant. Walking to a chair, he sat down and lifted a hand. The orb flew to his hand and hovered above it before it began to glow and showed him what had happened outside of the Cortail’s merchant shop along with the weird sales that took place.
“Hmm, so it really is about the fourth son and not the father. I suppose his duel with Adigus is still ongoing.”
As this man watched the fight between Kazuki and the two female Demigods, the large man raised a brow.
“This little human is at the 7th stage but his strength goes well beyond that. He’s not normal. The woman standing behind him though, she seems to be above average in regards to Demigods but not too far out of the norm. These two are the boy’s new guards huh?”
“Yes, Master. From the old crew that Samuel employed, it seems along their journey their ship broke down and they were ambushed. The Demigod goes by the name Marty and the 7th stage man goes by Jentson. These two saved the fourth son Samuel and even found the traitor among the crew.”
The snake servant went on and on as he relayed everything he had learned. The large man nodded at the end.
“So the business is no longer just the boys. Although none of that matters if they do not get anything in writing.”
“Master, just before I reached here, the two were seen entering the merchant guild. After inquiring, they did indeed get it all verified. The business is split between the fourth son and the two bodyguards.”
“Could this be due to duress?”
“No Master. The boy seems to be under no threats, rather he seemed excited to be working with the two guards out of his own free will.”
“You checked his soul?”
“No master, that could not be done with my power without notice from the guards. Forgive this useless one.”
“Forget it. If things have come this far, it’s useless to sit on our thumbs. Anyway, what about the new weapon? Is it true or was it deemed a false rumor?”
“Still unconfirmed, unfortunately. I have my people looking into it but nothing so far. All the crew that quit heard about it from the fourth son plenty of times but none have ever witnessed it. This whole duel between the Cortail Patriarch and Adigus revolves around this supposed weapon in some way or another but without actual proof it exists, it could all be a front for another game that they’re playing.”
“I don’t believe they would waste precious time and resources for bullshit. If this really is about a new item in a shop, it will damage reputations greatly if word got out that it wasn’t real and that the heads of family are fighting over nothing. No, this supposed weapon most likely exists and when it does, things may become chaotic in not just Gauldriss but even further. I plan to take full advantage when it does.”
“Master, shall I retrieve the fourth son and kill the two guards.”
The large man shook his head.
“No, that would be pointless right now. If they have already deemed their ownership of the shop goes to someone else once they die, It could simply bring in an outside source. Right now those three own this shop. If the weapon is real then that would mean the other three sons also have this weapon and can sell it. I wish to get my hands in the pot before the entire market is taken over and run fully by the Cortails. I need to grow further and expand more. I can not be tied to this forsaken city for all of eternity. This is a golden opportunity.”
“Master, what will you have me do?”
“It depends, where are the three at now?”
—————————————————————————-
Walking into the arena, it was similar to many coliseums. There were multiple flat platforms made of something that looked like flat grey stone but Kazuki could tell right away that this stone was in fact not stone but something else. The material was incredibly tough and durable. There was divine energy running throughout all of it and Kazuki could see many inscriptions for powerful barriers embedded in it.
(No doubt those barriers would lock opponents inside while protecting outsiders from any blowback.)
(Yes, those barriers aren’t half bad. They could even take a blow or two from an actual God before collapsing entirely.)
Kazuki didn’t expect them to be that strong and was surprised by Arc’s comment.
Kazuki, Marty, and Samuel walked up to a counter. Standing behind it or rather floating behind it was a tall slim woman with pink skin and red-colored eyes. When she saw Samuel she rolled her eyes.
“Kid this is no place for children. This for registering fighters, not boys who’ve yet to grow hair on their balls.”
Samuel’s face flushed red and he didn’t know what to say.
Kazuki stepped in front of him and spoke coldly.
“Is your job to harass others or serve!?”
The woman furrowed her brows.
“Look I was just
Before she continued Kazuki cut her off.
“Seems you’re hearing is failing you. I didn’t ask for an excuse. Just do your fucking job.”
The woman wanted to explode. She was tired of dealing with assholes like Kazuki. She felt she had done nothing wrong but give a warning to a child. This may be true but Kazuki did not like others who had no tact. The woman didn’t even listen to the reason why they were there and just assumed Samuel was here for something he was not. This annoyed Kazuki, maybe more than it should have but he also had another purpose.
As their commotion grew, it attracted the eyes of others. Fairly quickly people were bad-mouthing Kazuki for being rude to the receptionist. This was exactly what Kazuki wanted. He began to act arrogantly and slapped the counter with a loud thud.
“Woman, hurry up and register me as a fighter. I’ve recently entered the 7th stage and can already tell everyone around here is way too weak to compete with me. I could kill them all with a single swing of this sword.”
Kazuki pointed to the infinity blade at his waste with confidence. The sword from an outsider’s point of view was indeed mysterious but not enough for them to think there was any merit to his words. Suddenly Kazuki had many enemies.
The woman grit her teeth hearing all this but then her expression changed and she started to smile.
(This little bastard. Do you know how I am? One word from me and I can make it so you face the toughest opponents on your very first match. Fucking with me, I’ll make sure you don’t come out of the arena alive.)
“Sure sir. Let me register you right away. We’ll get you into a match as soon as possible. What’s your name?”
“You can call me Jentson.”
“Jentson is it. Very good, let me handle this and I’ll be right back with you in a moment.”
The pink woman disappeared into a back room and Kazuki continued creating a show and bragging very loudly in front of any and all who passed by. He was acting like a jackass and being annoying as fuck but this was all part of the show.
