Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 91

(Arc, how far would you go to protect the ones you care about?)

(What kind of stupid question are you asking me Kazuki?)

(I’m serious. What would you do, how far would you go to protect those you care for?)

(To this stupid question, I can only say I would not make a single move. I care for no one but myself. That should be obvious to you by now.)

Kazuki expected this answer to some degree.

(Even though you’ve saved me multiple times already.)

(Saving you is different. In order to achieve my goals, I need a being that I can rely on to help me find my missing piece. Basically, you are glorified transportation and not much more. If I didn’t need you, do you honestly think I would put up with your crap?)

Kazuki smirked.

(I don’t know if I believe you. You seemed kind of desperate and willing to sacrifice yourself back on the decaying eye world.)

(WHAT!?)

Kazuki shrugged.

(Maybe I misunderstood then but from my perspective, it seemed as if you cared just a tiny bit, heh.)

Arc’s lightning shot up Kazuki’s arm but Kazuki smiled. Without using Origin energy, this lightning was little more than a tickle.

(Did I strike a nerve little Arc? Afraid to show you care?)

(SILENCE BOY! I NEED NO ONE AND I AM ABOVE ALL. I AM THE BEGINNING AND THE END OF ALL THINGS AND YOU

Kazuki began to hum a simple tune in his head to block out Arc’s insesstent blabbing. At the same time, he, along with Marty and Samuel headed for his assigned platform. His fight was about to begin.

Very quickly they found the right way and came out to a large open area. In front of them, there was a flat platform made of something colored similar to stone. There was an ancient power flowing within this stage. Kazuki took a step forth and touched the stage. With a slight squeeze, he was surprised at how easily the stage broke. However a fraction of a moment later, the stage repaired itself as if were brand new.

(The stage, it not only self repaired but the material is now tougher than before.)

Kazuki gave the stage another squeeze using the exact same amount of strength and this time it didn’t crumble away.

Samuel was excited and ran over and touched the stage as well.

“I never thought I would ever be so close to the fighting stage and now here I am touching it with my own hands. This day couldn’t get any better.”

Marty as well touched the stage, however, she did not care about it in the same way Samuel did. Instead, she was studying it with a curious eye.

“This material, it has qualities similar to Orcan stone and there are tiny fibers of Macryles metal running throughout it. This stage can adapt to a fighter’s power.”

“Adapt?”

Marty gave a nod.

“Yes, Jentson. This stage has properties that will allow it to adapt to a fighter’s power. For example, if ya throw a ball of fire at it, after receiving the first attack it will self-repair and then become slightly heat resistant. If you cut at it with a blade, once again it will repair before becoming more ressitant to slashing and piercing type weapons.”

Kazuki found this very interesting. Not just him but Samuel as well took note of this as he lovingly stroked the stage.

“Incredible isn’t it? If one could take this material and apply it to a person’s armor, how amazing would it be?”

Marty shook her head.

“There are far too many flaws that lie within it. One of them is the amount of power this thing eats up. If you’re in a true fight, this things adaptive nature would consume most of your power in no time. For here though its power is supplied by Gods so it’s basically free to them but to us, one or two real attacks and it would have drained all of our power.”

After Marty said this, it got Samuel’s spirit fired up and the two began to passionately talk about weapons and armor and theories on how to make such equipment more efficient so that one day regualr folk could use such equipment.

Meanwhile, the three were surrounded by not only other platforms but also hundreds of thousands of filled seats. Some of these people were watching other fights that were currently taking place. The constant roar of cheers and boos filled the arena and it was a surprise at all that Samuel and Marty could even hear one another speak, even though they were only a few feet away from one another.

Some had their eyes on the other ongoing fights but there were other eyes watching Kazuki and his little group. They found it odd, that his group was touching all over the stage and rubbing it here and there and wondered if they were even supposed to be there. Some laughed while others just stared in confusion.

At the same time, there were hundreds of private boxes either attached to the arena or floating in the sky above it. Inside one of these private boxes, a large man was sitting in his chair, watching a few fights take place down below with a rather bored expression.

“Master, as I said, the one called Marty and Jentson came here along with the Cortail boy. Only the old man Jentson has registered and he will soon be participating in his first fight.”

The bored expression on this man’s face changed slightly. The servant looked down at a certain stage and his master’s eyes followed. Immediately, he saw Kazuki and the others but most importantly he saw the mysterious new weapon on Kazuki’s waist.

“So that’s the weapon?”

This man’s eyes scanned over the weapon and immediately he lifted a brow.

“The power of space, huh, and I detect a fragment of time. The number of masters and experts that can just barely control time is a rarety one might not see in a lifetime, even an endless lifetime such as mine. Yet it turns out that there is actually an expert that can place the element of time into a weapon. The power of time is an ability that none have mastered, at least none that I have heard of. For someone to just place it in a weapon, do they have no fear or are they ignorant of the consequences? What I find odd is that this fragment of time keeps disappearing one moment before reappearing deeper within the blade. Almost like it is falling infinitely into the void, how strange.”

“Master, should I make contact with them or wait?”

The man thought for a moment before shaking his head.

“I still do not know the depths of this weapon’s power. So long as the Cortail’s patriarch still lives I cannot simply act rashly. We shall wait for now. The woman is slightly above average but the man I can tell holds many mysteries. I want to see what he is capable of, along with that blade before I make any real moves. For now, continue to observe.”

The servant bowed and took a step back.

“Understood master.”

Just as the man was focusing in on Kazuki and the infinity blade at his waist, his eyes shifted to the ring on Kazuki’s finger…to Arc. The moment his eyes laid upon Arc, he felt a tremendous power for a split second before a loud voice called out to him and his attention was taken away.

“VIZ! Here to watch a few matches are you?”

Viz rolled his eyes when he heard this voice. Suddenly a shadow appeared in his private room before the shadow transformed into a tall beautiful woman. The woman had long black hair all braided. Her eyes were sharp and also black. She had thin lips with a narrow nose. She smiled at Viz after entering his private viewing room.

“Had I known you were coming Viz, I would have welcomed you personally.”

This woman smiled lustfully at Viz but he did not return the pleasantries. Instead, he looked at her with a dull expression.

“Sasha. I don’t recall sending you an invitation to my room. Why have you come without permission? Hopefully not just to bug me.”

Sasha’s smile playfully changed into a pouty expression before she turned into a shadow once more before reappearing right next to Viz and was wrapped around him in a onesided hug.

“Now now Viz, you know I own this arena. I can go anywhere I please. I need permission from no one. As for bugging you, does my presence offend you so much? Can’t a girl have what she wishes when she wishes? otherwise what’s the point of all of this money and power, hehe.”

“Since when do you own the entire arena? Your other two partners and their factions would not like the way you talk. They might come to think you are planning to push them out and take what’s theirs. As for you having whatever you wish…”

Viz shook his head before his body filled with dangerous power. Sasha was forced away into her shadowy smoke-like form and she quickly retreated backward several steps before reappearing in the flesh.

“No matter how much crystal you have, no matter how much power you wield, I will never belong to you, understand?”

Sasha laughed and smiled wickedly. She once again transformed into a shadow of smoke and left to who knows where. Her voice lingered in Viz’s ear.

“We shall see Viz. One day, even you shall kneel beneath me and serve my every whim.”
