Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 96

Viz disappeared into the distance. With him, he took Kazuki, Marty and Samuel before any could protest.

The very next moment, they appeared in front of a certain building and Kazuki was signing over basically every ounce of the business he had received from Samuel. Samuel and Marty didn’t like this at all but could not go against it. Instead, Marty willingly split her shares in half and gave one half to Kazuki whilst keeping the other.

“You would do this for me?”

Marty punched him in the arm.

“Ya act like ya wouldn’t do the same for me. I didn’t even come into this expecting to get anything but with your negotiating ya got this much for me and all I did was basically show up to take part. As far as I look at it, this is more yours than mine anyway but I’m still keeping half, hehe.”

Kazuki was touched by this and he didn’t hesitate or stand on ceremony as he gladly excepted. If this was any other time, he would have forgone the shares but he needed money. He needed more information about the Higher Realms and he needed to build a Faction. In the previous situation, with the threat of God’s, he did not expect them to be so overwhelming and because of that, he nearly lost everything. Now though, he had Viz, or at least Viz made it public that the Cortail Merchant Shop was under his wings.

Now the ownership was split from one to three to now four. Anything more in Samuel’s eyes and he would start to cry. Thankfully he still had majority ownership. Marty and Samuel were left reeling after hearing the agreement between Kazuki and Viz but at the same time, they were excited. With a God looking over the shop it meant someone in their corner who could block the harsh rain. Maybe not all of the downpour but enough that they could hopefully establish a foundation of sorts.

“Since we’re at the guild, shall we create our Faction now?”

Samuel asked in earnest.

Kazuki and Marty found no problem with it.

“We minus well, what do ya say Jentson?”

“The sooner we establish our own Faction the quicker we can recruit and build up our forces.”

Viz looked at the three with questioning eyes.

“You three wish to create a Faction, with only this much power. I understand a Demigod starting one, even then that’s pretty sad but at least out in the wilds you can stand a small chance but a 7th stage and a child just off his mother’s milk. Do you all think that is wise? Don’t get me wrong, if any of you die, that opens up good and bad things for me but we just became partners it would look bad on my part if you three suddenly fall into…dangerous territory.”

All three gave Viz a troubled look.

“What, why are you three giving me such weird looks.”

A gust of wind arrived nearby and a man with the head of a snake stepped out of it before kneeling before Viz.

“Master, may I speak?”

“Gider, you’ve just arrived huh? You recognize the three near me. I have gone into business with them as of today.”

Gider nodded but did not say a word until Viz gave him a knowing nod.

“Master, I bring news of…

He paused up to here and glanced at Samuel.

“Speak already.”

“Master, the duel between Adigus and the Cortial Patriarch Terinus has reached its conclusion. After much back and forth, the duel has come to a draw. Both are highly injured. Adigus has retreated to his territory but Terinus was ambushed on the way back. He is…no more.”

Samuel heard this and felt his whole body grow weak as he crumbled to the ground. Marty quickly caught him as he stared in shock.

“Lies, father, father can’t be…dead. You must be mistaken, tell me the truth, tell me what really happened right now!”

Even with a shaky and devastating voice, there was still a bit of strength and anger in Samuel’s tone. Giger’s snake tongue flicked as he hissed at Samuel. He did not like being talked down to, especially some weak child he could eat in a single bite. Kazuki stepped in front of Samuel and glared at Gider but this did not stop Gider’s hiss.

“Enough Gider. How are you going to lose your temper over the words of a child? What kind of Demigod are you?”

Gider stopped at his master’s command and was apologetic to Viz.

“Forgive me Master, I should have restrained myself more.”

“No more of it you hear me. As I said these three are now my partners, any disrespect you show them is a slap in my face, understood?”

“Understood Master. It shall not happen twice.”

“Forget it, back to the aftermath. Who killed Terinus, was it Adigus, did he ambush him after the fight.”

Gider shook his snake head.

“Without being there personally and tasting the leftover magic, I can only go off what the sources said. They claimed a third party came out and attacked both Adigus and Terinus the moment their guards were lowered and they were weakened and injured after the fight. From the looks of things. Adigus had no part in it and nearly lost his life entirely.”

Samuel held back tears hearing this.

“What of my father’s body…his divine weapon?”

Gider shook his snake head once more.

“During the ambush, there was a chain reaction and a cluster of stars exploded. Chaotic space was torn open and your father…vanished”

Samuel’s eyes widened.

“Father…He could still be alive! We must hurry and get to his last known location and look. Maybe…Maybe

Even before he finished, Samuel realized how insane his words sounded.

Gider shook his head and felt like rubbing it in as he spoke.

“The chances of surviving in Chaotic space, it’s far too slim. To live through that, it’s infinitely closer to zero than it is to one. Maybe if he got out right away since he’s a God it would be possible to survive but your father was already severely injured and weakkkkkkk. There’s no way he made it out alive.”

A soft smile spread across Gider’s face as he spoke. Viz glared at him.

“Enough, Leave!”

Gider felt a chill run down his spine and bowed once more before disappearing into a gust of wind. Samuel was completely devastated. No matter how much of a brave face he put on, in the end, he was still a kid. Tears began to spill from his face and he broke down right there. Marty held him close and comforted him.

“Jentson… let’s return for now.”

Kazuki glanced at Viz and Viz just shrugged.

“The boy is still a boy. He still has a chance to step out of this world and maybe live a normal life. Heed my words, don’t get attached, it will cost you everything.”

Viz then vanished as well. His voice lingered slightly as he added.

“I’ll come by the shop tomorrow, we still need to discuss business.”

His words were clear. Even though Samuel just found out his father had died, Viz held no sympathy and only gave a day for Samuel to grieve before it would be back to business as usual. Kazuki could feel the coldness from here but he understood Viz’s reasoning. Why would a God give two shits about some mortal’s misfortune?

At the same time, losing someone, a father, Kazuki could relate. The three returned to the shop without establishing a Faction. On the way, once again, Kazuki felt someone’s eyes on his back. He was about to turn around to try and catch whoever it was in the act when Arc called out to him.

(Don’t turn around! A God has you in his sights.)

(What!? What should I do, no why is there a God watching, is this the same being as before?)

(Too many questions! Just keep your head down and get back to the shop. There’s something strange coming from this God. For now, these eyes are only curious. If you turn around and let him know that you know he’s watching, this curiosity may grow like Listerious’s or Sasha’s. Move forward the same way as before and pay no attention.)

Kazuki did just that. he circulated his ki to keep himself calm and keep his heart rate from climbing and after a few more minutes they had all arrived safely at the shop. Opening the barrier, the moment they entered the shop Kazuki closed it as fast as possible and heaved a sigh of relief.

The eyes had given him a cold feeling. it was almost like death was upon him. Having a God simply stare at you, it was a dreadful feeling. Knowing they could kill someone like him with a mere thought…Terror was not enough to define what it felt like.

(Arc, just what in the world is going on? Who is the bastard that keeps looking at me like they wish to kill me?)
