Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 98
The very next day. A loud banging on the shop’s barrier drew everyone’s attention. Marty and Kazuki took a look before lifting the barrier. The door to the shop swung open and Viz walked in followed by his snake-headed servant Gider.
Kazuki and Marty were both seated at a table in the center of the shop. Now that all of the goods had been sold, the interior of the shop was basically empty so they put a table in the middle of the room because Marty wanted snacks.
“Hmm, Has no one ever taught you to stand in the presence of a God?”
Marty and Kazuki practically jumped to their feet and Viz started to laugh at their show.
“I’m kidding. I don’t care about such ceremonial bullshit. Well, most of the time I don’t. Since I decided to become partners with you lot, things would become annoying relatively fast if every time I enter a room you stand for me. Just treat me as an equal and things will go far smoother from here on out.”
Viz walked over to the small table and took a seat. Without asking he fixed himself a cup of tea and started eating the small snacks Chaka had prepared. Kazuki and Marty glanced at one another before sitting down.
Chaka and Bersik found this behavior to be overly rude but neither could say a word against a God.
After downing a cup of tea, Viz looked toward the stairs.
“I’ve come all the way over and the boy is still not come down to greet me. Is he still not over his father’s passing?”
Chaka was pissed and wanted to smash a platter over Viz’s head but before she could even make a move, Gider glared at her. His snake eyes seemed to hypnotize and instill fear causing Chaka to collapse to her ass. In return, Kazuki released some of his aura and pressed Gider to the ground.
Viz sighed before he waved his hand.
“Enough.”
Kazuki felt his aura was forcefully pushed back into his soul world and sealed. His eyes widened in shock.
(A God can even do this!)
At the same time, Gider was pressed even harder into the ground by Viz.
“Gider, stop making trouble and go busy yourself with more important matters. Be gone!”
Gider was lifted into the air and was thrown out of the shop. The door slammed behind him and locked. With a thought, a chair materialized and Chaka was scooped up and placed in the chair without harm.
“My servant has made a mistake but it seems the boy’s servants are just as easily riled. We both grant them too much leeway, no?”
Viz smiled and it seemed genuine. Chaka realized her mistake and practically leaped out of the chair and fell to her knees and began to bow repeatedly.
“I have made a mistake. Forgive me, Lord!”
Viz shook his head.
“That wasn’t a threat. I’m merely saying that my servant and Samuels have such freedoms that they can express their opinions up to a certain point before they cross the line. Simply do not cross said line and we will be fine. The most someone like you can do is annoy me but even annoyances are better off squashed than put on the back burner where they will continue to hiss in my ear.”
Chaka was confused and lost. She didn’t know if this was a threat or some odd saying but either way, she would restrain herself from now on while in front of Viz. That she swore to herself.
“Chaka, get up and go take care of some work I’ve left on my desk.”
At this time, Samuel came down the steps in a clean and sharp outfit. his eyes were a little red but he had a determined look in his eye. Walking with a straight back, he carried himself with confidence. Kazuki could read his soul from there and felt a mature composure coming from the boy. There was still that deep sadness from his father’s passing but more than that there was a fire in his belly. A rich, deep desire to build something. To form his own path and drown out any troubles that may come.
Kazuki was surprised. He thought the boy may need a long time to grieve and wondered if he would be able to do what must be done but he no longer needed to wonder. The boy had buried the tragedy and was ready to move forward.
(This kid has a strong will and determination. He’s using his father’s death as fuel for his future. Good. This makes things that much simpler.)
“Yes, Young Master!”
Chaka jumped up and ran past her master and up the steps, disappearing into the second floor.
Making his way to the table, he did not speak of what took place yesterday. Instead, he took a seat and went right into it.
“Viz, since you are now a part of the business, there are a few things you must understand.”
Viz gave a curious nod.
“First, the business is mine. I own the majority of it all and even if you take the remaining shares from Lady Marty or Sir Jentson, I will still own the majority. Please do not forget that.
“This I already know.”
“Good, beyond that, I’ll tell you right now, if I die, my remaining shares will be split amongst a few Factions that are hostile to you.”
Viz’s eyes widened and he shouted.
“WHAT!?”
Even though he shouted, Viz perfectly controlled his power. It wasn’t enough to kill Samuel but it was more than enough to intimidate him and send fear running down his spine. To the contrary though, Samuel did not look scared at all. He remained calm and focused on the outside but everyone could tell from his rapid heartbeat how terrified he really was.
“Heh, you put on a brave face boy but that is just a mask. beneath the veil, you are ready to jump out of your own skin are you not?”
“You’re not wrong, but I realized something. Even if I’m afraid, even if I am shocked, it does nothing for me and in actuality it only hinders me. So I made a decision, even if something horrifies me, even if my heart is ready to explode, I’ll stick to my path and continue moving forward one step at a time. Because at least if I’m taking a step, it’s my step and my path…no one elses. So now, do you want to keep wasting time like this or do you want to hear the rest of what I have to say?”
Viz stared wide-eyed. Never has a small brat no stronger than the 4th stage dared to resist his intimidation tactic. Viz couldn’t help but grow interested in the boy.
“Sure but first, I want to hear why. Why would you purposefully give your shares to my competitors in the case of your death.”
“Simple, I wish for you to do your utmost to protect me.”
“Kid I already said the business and therefore you and these two weaklings are under my protection. Is that not enough already?”
Samuel shook his head.
“It’s not. With my things now going to your enemies in the case where I die, you may not lose out but your enemies would gain tremendously whilst your allies dwindle. In this way, in order to keep your enemies without, you would try harder to make sure I keep my head.”
“Do they already know about this clause? Wouldn’t they make them wish to try and kill you even harder?”
“That is precisely why they do not know. So I suggest it remains a secret for all of our sakes. As for the other things, we need to set up a Faction as quickly as possible. The person in charge of it should naturally be me.”
This time it was Kazuki and Marty who gave Samuel a certain look but Samuel was not wavering.
“The business is mostly mine and therefore the investment for the Faction would of course mostly be from my share. That is only one reason why I should be in charge though. You two are only temporary until things are built. Once things are in place, you two are leaving right. Say you were in charge, the moment it’s time to hand over the reins to me, the new members would not accept a 3rd stage kid to take over. There will be chaos and infighting the moment you two leave. However, if I am the leader from the beginning then when you two decide to take off, the power will still remain with me. Nothing will have changed.”
“Heh, this kid. You sure sound confident but who says that I am joining your little faction?”
Samuel shook his head.
“Sorry, Viz but I never mentioned you joining.”
Viz’s eyes widened. He felt insulted and at the same time foolish.
“And what exactly is wrong with me joining?”
“If you join, I’m afraid we’ll never fill up our ranks. Lord Viz, when it comes to others, people are afraid of you.”
