Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 107
Verius aimed his scarab amulet directly at Gardius’s soul. His artifact lit up with brilliant light. Gardius still had his eyes closed and was concentrating on closing the seal over the green world. A few more seconds at most and he would complete his task.
Verius did not wait. This opportunity was a once in a lifetime, if he did not kill Gardius here and now, the possibility to destroy him and claim the treasure of the Black gate would basically be an impossibility.
The blue beetle in the center of his amulet closed its wings before opening once again as if it was blinking. When its wings reopened they went from transparent to a multitude of colors. Verius did not hesitate and used his Artifact to shoot this beam of light right into Gardius’s soul.
The light entered Gardius’s soul with no resistance whatsoever. A power unlike anything he had ever felt drilled deep into the recesses of his soul and a terrifying force started to destroy his soul as if it were melting.
Gardius’s eyes snapped open and Verius knew he had failed but he could not stop here. Verius’s spear was already in his hand and before Gardius could say a word, he was already thrusting it forward with every ounce of power he could bring forth. A dark light emanated from the tip of his spear as he forced it at Gardiu’s chest.
Gardius however was no powerless fawn. His movements were slower than usual but he still moved faster than Verius. His hand caught the blade of the spear just as the tip of it had pierced his chest.
He groaned and snarled.
“So you really aren’t Verius. WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU!?”
Verius smiled as he unleashed all of the power in his body through his spear and emptied it into Gardius’s chest cavity.
Gardiu’s chest expanded one good time before he trembled and coughed up a mouthful of blood.
“Who I am is no concern for a dead man. Though it’s surprising you figured out I wasn’t really your subordinate. Unfortunately, you figured it out too slowly. Now, close those eyes and return to the infinite VOID!”
The amulet in Verius’s other hand glowed once again and he shot another beam directly into Gardius’s soul.
Gardiu’s red eyes widened as they filled up with blood making them even more crimson. More blood spilled out of his mouth and his head slumped down.
Verius smiled as if he were on top of the world.
“My disguise was perfect but this Supreme God actually managed to see through it to some degree. Still, he was too late, hehe. With Gardius out of the way, I can start to pick off all others one by one. Even that man has come here. I will have to pay him back for my last loss.”
Verius was refering to Kazuki. His senses had covered a large portion of this planet and he knew Kazuki was here. He could not sense the same energy Kauzki used back in Satruss city but he could sense the same energy Arc had used.
(It’s strange though. I can sense that same energy from his Artifact but at the same time, there is another energy that feels almost exactly the same as it. The Artifact’s energy is coming from somewhere around that Black mountain but that similar energy is coming from the depths of the mountain. The power in that mountain…I’ve never sensed a power that strong. The only comparison can equate it to is the chaotic energy I sense from within Chaotic space.)
The shadow quickly guessed that if the first energy it sensed came from the Artifact that Kauzki carried then the mysterious energy from deep within the mountain that carried similar energy. Must in fact be the treasure of the Black gate. With the amount of power he could sense, he could only conclude that it was the Artifact he was searching for.
As he thought about how he would soon rule the universe, he noticed something strange. The seal in the sky…It was still closing. That should be impossible if Gardius was dead. Once his soul was destroyed, surely his control over the Artifact ring he wore would stop but to his disbelief, it was still forming a powerful seal over the entire world.
He tried to retrieve his spear that was still stuck in Gardius’s chest but he found that he could not remove it, rather he could not free it from Gardius’s grip that still held it in place.
Gardius lifted his head slowly and laughed demonically.
“Hehehehehe.”
Verius felt fear crawl all over his body.
“This isn’t possible. My senses are above all. I should have felt your power still intact. How did you hide your energy from
Before he finished his sentence, Gadius showed off his ring. A foolish feeling and fear washed over the shadow as Gardius’s cold voice brushed over him.
“Have you forgotten what my ring can do? You may have better senses when it comes to energy but with my ring, I can control it. Your soul attack was quite nasty. If I didn’t have my ring, my soul would have been obliterated and I really have returned to the void.”
Verius took a step back. The amulet flashed in his hand but Gardius was faster. His ring responded to Verius’s and it shined no more. Whatever energy was inside was sealed.
“NO. This is my world I did not return from the abyss to lose here and now.”
Gardius shook his head hearing this and he slowly raised his finger and pointed at Verius.
“That was your mistake. This is not your story but mine. Now, how did you put it…Return to the void…”
Gardius didn’t even need to use his ring for this. He simply used his overwhelming Divine power. A tiny ball of energy no bigger than a seed collected at the tip of his finger and in an instant it became a beam of energy and shot directly into Verius’s head before exiting out the back where it flew far into the distance and hit a different mountain.
Verius’s body and spear exploded into nothingness and so too did half the mountain in the distance. The world trembled from this power of his and he smiled.
“Another weak one has fallen.”
As he said this, several figures entered this world and his seal finished closing. He sensed the surrounding area and could not find a hint of Verius. The only thing he could sense was a single creature hiding in a nearby tunnel deep underground. He could tell this creature was injured and since it had not made a single move during this entire event, Gardius could only see it as another weak cowardly thing.
The entire exchange between Gardius and Verius was a mere three seconds at most. With the world sealed and a traitorous dog put down, Gardius had no need to stick around here. His goal was singular. He looked at the Black mountain in the distance and with blood still spilling from his mouth and chin, he took to the skies.
His speed was somewhat slow but that was an easy fix. His ring began to glow once more and the energy around him changed. He easily opened one of his storage rings and began to absorb a substantial amount of energy from his stash of Divine crystals.
His special ring had stopped the soul damage he received from Verius’s amulet a moment after it started but it still inflicted a heavy wound on his soul. He was overconfident about his own soul and looked down on Verous’s Artifact. Though he would not admit this mistake on his part, he simply felt rage for letting a weaker opponent cause him any type of harm. Healing his soul would take some time but he was confident.
Just as he started to regain some power, he noticed 9 other Supreme Gods following him.
He wanted to fix himself instantly with his power as he did not like appearing so raged in front of others. However, as soon as he saw how eager they were to chase him, and considering the strange conditions and restrictions of this world, he suddenly had a diabolical thought.
(So they wish to kill me because of how I look. How the world would mock if a single weakened Supreme God turned the tables on 9 Supreme Gods? This truly is my story.)
Gardius began to laugh inwardly while rapidly healing all of his internal wounds. At the same time, he kept his outward appearance sloppy. Even if it was against his own ideals to look like this, the chance to kill this many Supreme Gods at once rarely ever came along. He even slowed his speed so that they could catch up to a certain extent.
(None of them can open their rings. They will run out of energy eventually and be open for slaughter. This…This will be entertaining. Once I kill these foolish bastards, I’ll claim my rightful place as ruler of the Three Higher Realms and everything below them.)
