Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 39
Kazuki casually held out his hand causing Verian, Selda, and Mashu to all grow nervous. The ever-watchful gazes of the nearby guards told them to not do anything rash. They knew this all too well but at the same time they knew it would be suspicious if they denied him a second time without a reasonable excuse.
Mashu pulled out his Divine weapon at this moment and held it out in front of Kazuki before showing him the hilt.
“Instead of plain old rocks Sir Borus, I would much rather we discuss that incredible technique of yours. Verian and I both suffered under your brutal attack yet you helped heal our souls which in turn helped repair our Divine Soul weapons. That is a rare gift indeed. I’m sure we would all rather hear about this mysterious ability of yours, that is if you don’t mind of course.”
Kazuki raised a brow before pushing the sword away.
“Is it really so difficult to see a simple rock? Would it not take but a single moment? Tell me, have I offended you all in some way just now?”
Kazuki wasn’t taking their hint. He did this purposefully. The so-called simple rock held some clue to the weird situation in this city. Without it, he had nothing else to really go off on.
Mashu and the others were not trying to offend Kauzki in any way but at the same time, the watcher was watching. They could only push things so far. Before they could say anything else, Kazuki stood up abruptly and hit them with a bit of snarkiness.
“Hmm, It seems like I am not as welcome as you’ve initially stated. Sorry, my small request was deemed too much…Goodbye.”
They once again exchanged a look with one another before Selda almost begged.
“Verian say something. Brother-in-law fix it!”
Mashu was left speechless. Things somehow out of nowhere took a turn. He did not realize Kazuki would all of a sudden become offended over this but it made sense. Up until this moment, things were fairly pleasant and they thought they knew him to a certain degree. Kazuki came off as understanding and rational and he had asked for something small such as seeing a supposedly ordinary rock. For them to have denied this request of theirs after he had saved Lana. It made them come off as incredibly rude.
Verian called out in a panic.
“Sir Borus wait!”
Kazuki though ignored him.
He walked toward the guards who welcomed his leaving. Mashu and Verian both rushed forward to try and catch up to him and discuss this but the guards quickly blocked their path. One of the guards spoke with a monotonous voice.
“It’s not safe after dark. Leaving now would be…Dangerous, and you could encounter…an ill fate.”
This threat was barely hidden but if one looked just beneath the surface of his words it was obvious what this guard meant.
Kazuki acted as if he were unaware as he left their estate and walked down the road. He pretended to be in a mood and everywhere he walked the people in his way parted. All the way until he left the city, there were eyes on him.
As he left the city, the gazes of nearly everyone who fell upon him began to remind him of the predator deep in the abyssal trench. The monster that hunted him and played with him as if he were a toy. Kazuki felt a chill run down his spine but he continued to keep a strong appearance until he was a few thousand miles away from the Satruss city.
He could not tell the strength of this hidden figure but just the fact that it had control of a city full of Gods left an uncomfortable feeling in his chest. Kazuki had confidence in his ability to flee but that was only up to a certain point. He now knew he could take on a God or two’s attacks but there were a shit ton of Gods in the city. If they were commanded to attack him all at once…The thought alone sent another shudder down his spine.
Kazuki took to the skies and flew far away from the city. He avoided using the Gauntlet and used his own speed. Kazuki did not wish to reveal all of his cards to this creepy watcher. After some time Arc told him the observer could no longer see him.
(You’re out of its range. For now, you’re safe.)
Kazuki did not let his guard down but he did feel somewhat relieved.
His aura began to stretch out until he located the lake Verian and the others spoke of. He then didn’t wait and flew straight toward it.
(Kazuki are you really going to try and help these people even though the danger is unknown? You are risking far too much for these strangers. What about the kids and what about finding our master?)
(I haven’t forgotten about either. Arc already said the kids are safe and both Kori and Marty are still with them. Kori can protect them and Marty is highly intelligent and has plenty of funds. They’ll most likely lie low for a while. They shouldn’t have received news of me being forced into Chaotic space. So they should still believe I am alive and well. Even if they hear I went into Chaotic space, Kosaru’s nose will let them know I am still among the living. They will wait for my return. Even if it takes a million years, those kids…As for your master, there is no need to rush. You have been separated for eons, a little more time will not harm you or Sword. I made a promise to you both and I will keep it no matter what. Believe in me.)
Sword danced around inside the Gauntlet’s inner space as if to say it had absolute faith in Kazuki. Codex though was still picking away as Kazuki’s decision.
(Still, why put yourself on the line for these people you barely know? I know you said they remind you of family but is that really enough reason to risk yourself, to risk all of us? Are you telling me every time someone approaches you with a sob story, you’re going to drop those who have supported you and basically put our needs above all of these foreign beings!?)
(I never said that. This, can you not see how strange this situation is? The circumstances demand special attention. Have you ever heard of a creature that could control a city full of Gods? Or even an Artifact with such an ability. Not only that this so-called ordinary rock or gem whatever that can ward off this hidden being. A being that can barely be sensed by Arc. Even if Arc has very little Origin energy, what being can evade its senses so well?)
(That doesn’t matter. This is still none of your concern, nor swords or mine. Doing all of this, acting and telling false tales, is only a waste of time and puts us all at unnecessary risk. You can’t be so blind that you don’t see it. I know you are no idiot. I know you think with logic as a priority, well most of the time at least. So then what am I missing here exactly? Why is this matter so important.)
At this time Kazuki arrived above the described lake and quickly sent out his aura and sensed it in its entirety.
(Codex, do you really not see why this is a real problem and why something must be done? Do I have to say it clearly for you to understand that this is much more than what you believe.)
(YES! Explain it to me. This literally has nothing to do with a Demigod like you. Interfering in whatever this thing’s plans are, trying to save these strangers, tell me. Tell me why you insist on this act of stupidity. Why is it your responsibility!?)
Kazuki quickly discovered the rocks Verian and his family had with them. With a thought, several hundred of these rocks began to spring up from the bottom of the lake.
(Codex, a being that can control a city of Gods. A being that can only be detected by a powerful artifact like Arc. So it can hide without being detected and can seemingly only be stopped by one thing, these dull-looking rocks. Answer this for me Codex, what is to stop this thing from infiltrating every aspect of society? Every city, and every God in this Higher Realm and any others. What is to stop such a being from taking control over every single God and every creature below them.?)
Codex suddenly became quiet as Kazuki continued.
(At this very moment, the only ones who seem to be aware of this thing’s presence and what it has done are a handful of people inside the city and most of them are already prisoners in their own homes. Then someone like me just so happens to come by. Someone who knows that this thing is secretly a threat. I already have a few clues about it and can escape its grasp. What are the chances of someone like me coming here? If things go a little further, maybe this thing really will spread and take over everything in its path. Are you seriously telling me I should step aside and let it? If not my responsibility then who’s?)
