Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 50

After killing both Verian and Selda in a single move, Kauzki appeared before Lana in a flash. He towered above her and his aura spilled out like a never-ending black ocean. Lana was completely overwhelmed and fear took over her body.

“The strong crush the weak, right?”

Having her words thrown right back in her face. Lana couldn’t help but collapse and fall straight on her ass. She shook uncontrollably as she realized she was doomed. One moment she still had the upper hand and the very next, her allies were no more and she was all alone. Her mistake was believing she had the advantage and then on top of that she made clear-cut threats against Kazuki.

Lana trembled and she could hardly breathe.

“What’s wrong little one? I thought you were going to take control of me, use me as your puppet. How quickly things change.”

Kazuki held out a hand in front of Lana and prepared to kill her when her pet wolf Sofie roared in defiance and jumped in between the two. She went from the size of one’s palm to the size of a tiger in an instant. Bearing her fangs and claws she emitted killing intent at Kazuki.

Kazuki took a step forward and Sofie overcame her fear and bit down with all her strength. Her jaws locked on Kazuki’s shoulder but they could only penetrate his clothes. Beyond that, her teeth hit his skin and they shattered upon contact. Not a mark was left on Kazuki but Sofie was still trying to bite him. Even with shattered teeth and dozens of cuts from the chipped teeth, Sofie desperately held on.

At the same time, something snapped in Lana. Sanity was not driving her as she jumped up and brandished her Mind stone.

“HOLD HIM SOFIE!”

As Sofie’s mouth bled all over the place, Kazuki simply shook his head. With a wave of his finger, he cut through the air and broke Lana’s Mind stone, splitting it cleanly down the middle.

Lana fell to the ground and Sofie was pained by this. She released saddened roars through mouthfuls of blood.

“You poor animal. Your memories were real. Even now you still don’t understand what’s going on. You defend Lana with all your might but the real Lana…that child died long ago.”

Kazuki’s aura drilled into Sofie’s body and in an instant, he transferred what he had learned about the situation. The memory of when the Golden sealed wall was discovered at the bottom of the lake and when it was broken. The moment when 5 beings broke free from it and the moment when one of these entities dove directly into Lana’s body and took control of her.

The moment Sofie learned of this, tears filled her beast eyes.

“Sofie your mine. Borus is lying, he’s playing a trick on you. he killed papa and mama, uncle Mashu. He’s trying to kill me. I’m your Lana ad you’re my Sofie. Please…Help me.”

More tears streamed down Sofies face but it was clear from her expression that she understood the truth.

She suddenly released a terrible cry and the air shook. She then turned and leaped directly at Lana and without another thought, Sofie detonated her own Magical Beats core and self-destructed.

Lana who was still below the 5th stage in that body had no way of defending herself against this explosion and she and Sofie died just like that. There was no room to bargain and no room for escape. In the end, Lana and her family were no more, though, in truth, the real thems had been dead and gone since long ago.

Lana and her family…all of their Mind stones, and they as well had been completely and thoroughly destroyed.

The moment Lana was dead and gone all of the Gods in the city released a loud roaring cheer in unison.

The entire city shook as countless Gods cried out all at once with thunderous roars of joy. All of these celebratory calls though were not of their own volition but rather came from the hidden figure who controlled them all still.

As these God’s laughed out loud and came together, out of nowhere, in the center of the city, a bright beam of light suddenly erupted as the city’s Stargate activated. Within a split second, it pulsed with unmatched energy.

Kazuki could sense a few Gods had used it. These were the same Gods he had sensed the first time he came to Saturss. They were the only Gods he sensed that did not wear false smiles and weren’t under the effects of Mind-soul energy. The last of the free-willed so to speak.

Kazuki was surprised to see them escape or rather the fact that they could escape in the first place. After all, the Gods still being controlled in the city had raised the city’s barrier. Kazuki was unaware that one could take a Stargate through a city’s defenses. Not only that but the hidden figure allowed them to escape.

(Did this hidden shadow allow them out freely or was it simply not paying attention since all of its enemies had been defeated?)

(I don’t know brat but does it even matter at this point? Look around, these Gods are still fully under the watcher’s control. It may just see those folks that left as a loose end or something else entirely. Either way, this is still shady is it not?)

Kauzki and the others were now fine with communicating under the observer’s gaze. Now that they two could manipulate mind-soul energy, they had no fear of an outsider reading their thoughts.

Instead of answering Arc, Kazuki scanned the entire city and searched it from top to bottom with his senses. In a moment he quickly discovered what he was looking for. A tiny figure moved unnoticed in the crowd and Kauzki turned his attention to the west side of the city.

Even though the fighting was done, Kauzki had yet to lower his aura. Instead, at this moment he began to raise it even more. All of the Gods or rather puppets promptly took notice of this and the celebrating roars died abruptly. They all zeroed in on Kauzki with razor-sharp focus.

Kazuki’s chest rose as he spoke in the direction of the hidden observer.

“Now that your enemies have been slain, why are you still in hiding!? Why are these people still under your control!?”

(Brat be careful. This being’s presence just dissappe…ON YOUR RIGHT SIDE!)

As soon as Kazuki finished speaking he felt exactly what Arc felt. The hidden presence on the west side of the city vanished and with Arc’s warning the presence suddenly reappeared on his back right side. Kazuki snapped around in an instant just in case and the presence vanished once again. Before reappearing behind him again.

(Arc my senses are too slow and too dull, I need yours right now!)

(Right brat! Use them well)

Arc shared its senses with Kazuki and everything suddenly became ever so clear. Heightened to a degree beyond human, passing his own limits, Kazuki caught a glance of something passing around him. He focused on his surroundings and with both his aura and Arc’s senses, Kauzki caught the shadow moving extremely fast all around him.

To his surprise, he saw the shadowy figure moving from one God’s body to the next as if they were doorways or miniature rifts. He was teleporting from one body to the next. As the shadowy figure moved to and fro, all of the Gods erupted in wild laughter. Kazuki found this creepy and was expecting an attack at any moment but it never came.

“I know you were trapped against your will for eons. I know that when Lana and her family wanted to flee it was also you who stopped them. Knowing what the Mindstones are capable of. One could say you did the Realms a huge favor by delaying them from leaving for so long. They could have caused havoc and mayhem on levels never before seen in the Realms but instead, thanks to you they were trapped here. Even though I know these things. I still do not know who you are. Does the being who stopped the plight from spreading across all the Realms have a name or would you rather play around all day?”

As soon as he said the last part, Kauzki’s eyes suddenly shot toward the body the shadowy figure inhabited. The shadowy figure was surprised for but a moment before brushing it off as a coincidence and then teleporting to the very next body. However, as soon as entered a new body, Kauzki’s eyes were already upon it, watching him as he watched back.

The shadowy figure stopped for a moment and watched Kauzki carefully before teleporting to another body but just the same, Kazuki’s eyes tracked him every single time as if he knew beforehand.

Kazuki lifted his hand and pointed directly at the shadowy figure hiding in another body.

“Are you really going to hide even though it’s pointless?

The very next moment, the vast city that was filled with uproarious laughter, as if someone flipped a switch, the entire city fell completely silent.
