Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 53
The shadow saw where Kazuki was heading and snapped out of its rage.
“So that’s your play. Trying to destroy the wall and the barrier along with it.”
Kazuki was in fact heading straight for the city’s wall. If he could destroy it, then the barrier covering the entire city would of course collapse allowing him to escape.
As Kazuki raced ahead toward the city walls, the shadow took notice and smiled creepily. Its golden eyes glowing dangerously it laughed.
“You think I’ll let what’s already been claimed by me escape? Foolish!”
Several thousand Gods, under the shadows, command made a move. A tremendous amount of power was fueled by them directly into the walls of the city. With it, the wall’s defenses were activated. Billions of inscriptions lit up within the wall and 10’s of thousands of ports opened up from the wall. With these openings, the heads of cannons stuck out and pointed inward toward the city, or rather every single one was aimed at one person and one person only.
(Kazuki, those cannons contain all of the magic of several Gods. If you are hit with that force, you will no doubt be destroyed. Be careful.)
Kazuki grinned.
(Don’t worry Codex, I know what must be done.)
The Gauntlet artifact Kazuki used allowed him to move at extreme speeds but only in a straight line. Any diversion from a straight path and the force would tear him apart. The speed was simply too much. This was the real weakness of the Gauntlet and it was one of the main reasons that led to Adigus’s downfall. To pivot or turn in mid-flight was almost an impossibility or at least in doing so, one would most certainly be ripped to shreds.
With all of the cannons aimed at him, flying in one straight line was definitely not optimal and guaranteed his own death if he continued. Kazuki though was no fool.
After running through another God and knocking a few more out of the way, Kazuki could feel the magic cannons were ready.
His senses were on fire and he felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up.
(BRAT MOVE!)
Even without Arc yelling at him, he was already well aware. He activated his aura strengthening and changed the gravity around him. With this new pull of force, he kicked off the air and a torrent of wind and blazing blue and white flames burst forth from beneath him. His acceleration changed as he deactivated his Gauntlet and activated his magic. His body vanished as if he were never there as powerful beams of magic shot at the spot where he had just stood.
*BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!*
Part of the city exploded and as the beam continued, everything in the danger zone was vaporized in an instant. The force rocked the entire city and a large chunk of Satruss city was just gone as it had been wiped off the face of the map. Several Gods even under the shadow’s control could not move out of the way in time and had been completely obliterated. Not a shred remained, on body of flesh, no spirit of Divine weapon, nothing.
Kazuki was just about to land on the edge of a rooftop when he felt several thousand more incoming beams of cannon fire. He changed gravity around him once more but at the same time, tens of thousands of Gods used their own gravity magic to try and hold him down.
Kazuki though could no longer be contained by simple magic like this. His mastery over basic magic like gravity gave him more flexibility when it came to the lesser magics. With a thought, Kazuki, codex, sword, and arc all severed most of the gravity magic holding him in place. They also severed the many aura’s chaining and slowing him down.
Once more he activated the Gauntlet and flew straight in one direction. Because he had just turned a moment ago, his new path brought him out of the way of the beams flying overhead.
Like this, he had to stop for a split second use his magic to dodge and then stop once more before activating the Gauntlet’s silver wings. He was zig-zagging in an odd and unpredictable way and though it took him longer to reach the wall, he was still approaching it rapidly.
Kazuki, Arc, Codex, and Sword were working flawlessly with one another. They had been through many trials and errors together and had shared countless memories back and forth. The Artifacts had witnessed every single fight and battle Kazuki had gone through and were picking up on his way of fighting in a way. Kazuki was still unpredictable but the way he moved it was as if he was guiding them along. Where he moved, they understood and followed.
“DAMN THESE PUPPETS!”
The shadow roared before diving directly into one of the God’s bodies nearby. After that, it teleported across the city and exited another Gods body near the city wall.
Touching the wall, there was a clear change in the magic cannons. The muzzle of each cannon warped. Some became more flat-faced and others narrowed. Kazuki could sense a different kind of danger and alarm bells rang in his head.
Kazuki didn’t hesitate to dive down into the ground. He drilled beneath the city instantly and following that, the cannons roared to the heavens in a mad cry that ripped the city apart. Some of the beams split off from one another and formed a strange net of volatile energy while some became small enough to thread a needle.
The bigger beams widened and spread out across the entire city while the smaller ones were more concentrated and lasted much longer and held more force. Lasers cut across the sky and pillars of divine power drilled millions of holes into the ground.
The ones that pierced the ground became homing beams and chased after Kazuki while the ones above ground continued to fire and formed a new barrier. This barrier was inside the city barrier and contained deadly magical energy that was ready to reduce Kazuki to ash.
(Brat he’s trying to surround you and reel you in. Break through it!)
(I KNOW!)
Kazuki stomped hard upon the foundations of the city causing everything above him to quake. With this stomp, he tried to physically break the city walls but the first barrier held up and everything stabilized. Kazuki flew back to the surface and out of the ground. As soon as he made it up he was taken aback for a split second. he could sense the changes on the surface but seeing it firsthand left an impression.
The entire city had been ruined in a single move by the shadow. Part of the ground was molten lava while other parts were now glass. Frozen pillars of ice stretched up high toward the closed-off sky and there were thousands of spots where gravity wells had formed causing debris to fly back and forth, as well as up and down in a chaotic and random way.
More Gods had died but not enough to make a dent in their numbers. At the same time, the second barrier was still closing. Kazuki left all the nonsense in the back of his mind and he moved. he raced toward the second barrier made up of divine power and tried to devour it but this energy was still being used by living Gods. Since he was still not at their level, he could not absorb their energy while they were still among the living.
Kazuki raced toward the second barrier and he and the other Artifacts tried to sever the energy but a problem formed immediately. Since Kazuki was not a God and the Artifacts had no Origin energy, they could only cut through a small section in the barrier, a tiny hole no bigger than a fist.
(Damn, the gap isn’t big enough. If I go through it like this, my body and soul will be destroyed immediately.)
(Kazuki the barrier is closing fats. Think of something before it’s too late.)
Codex’s words were no help but Kazuki still had no fear. He reached out and grabbed at the open air and tried to rip open Chaotic space but he failed immediately. he tried once more before he looked at the first barrier from the wall.
(The first barrier protecting the city won’t allow anything in or out. This includes opening up Chaotic space. To think the barrier is that strong to keep even Chaotic space from opening here.)
(Brat the energy of 10’s of thousands of Gods is fueling that barrier of course they can keep Chaotic space from being torn open here. That damn barrier means we also can’t just teleport away.)
Kazuki looked toward the center of the city. While all buildings had been destroyed, one still stood. A large tower where the city’s Stargate lie. Using it though was tossed away as soon as the thought formed.
(That Stargate may allow one to leave even through a barrier but I don’t have a fortune of Divine crystals on me at the moment.)
Kazuki looked around for something else, anything else and the city wall came back into sight. The gears in his mind started to turn at a million miles an hour as a new idea came to him.
(Arc, I need you to take the walls!)
