Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 56

Millions of Gods had stepped out of the Stargate and witnessed Kazuki crush a Mindstone. The moment he did this, the remaining Gods the shadow controlled fell out of the sky lifelessly. The timing could not have been any worse and Kazuki realized what this looked like.

Kazuki turned to see the Shadow vanish into thin air. Looking back at the newly arrived Gods, Kazuki could tell none of them had noticed the shadow and its disappearance. He realized that if he gave chase, from an outsider’s point of view it would appear as if it were he that was fleeing the scene of a crime.

(Damn, did that shadow predict this would happen.)

Kazuki tried to explain but before he could speak a word a Man wrapped in white armor pointed at Kazuki and shouted.

“WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!”

A spear taller than he appeared in the man’s hands and he did not hesitate to brandish it at Kazuki.

The man gathered power in the tip of his spear and a frozen beam of silver-blue light shot forward.

Not just him but the other Gods followed his lead and immediately fired out powerful magic. The sky tore open and Chatoic space was once again unleashed but these Gods did not seem to care. Several powerful barriers appeared out of nowhere and protected them.

(Kazuki these people. Are you going to fight or run, the choice is yours but you’d best make it quick!)

Kazuki had no quarrel with these people and he understood why they attacked him. In their eyes, he must look like a disaster. A city wiped off the face of the map, Gods falling from the sky the moment they appear, all blame and indication is pointed precisely on Kazuki’s frame. If he could explain, maybe things could be smoothed over but not under these current conditions.

The silver wings atop his Gauntlet pulsed and he turned and fled at his highest speed. One moment he was there, the very next he was gone.

After a moment Chaotic space closed and the air cleared. Everyone ahd witnessed Kazuki’s astonishing speed and even though they knew they could not catch up they prepared to give chase when the man wielding the spear stopped them.

“Do not chase.”

A man who appeared to be a guard asked the spear wielder in confusion.

“Lord Verius, shouldn’t we pursue that man? Look at what he’s done.”

The one who carried a spear, Lord Verius shook his head.

“You saw his speed. Catching him is something none of you can do. It’s best to find him later and corner him like a bug.”

“A bug master?”

Verius went quiet for a moment before adjusting his way of speaking slightly.

“Forget that, for now, bring forth the ones from before.”

The guard saluted before making his way into the crowd. Moments later, he brought several Gods forward. These were the Gods who had managed to escape the city just when Kazuki and the shadow’s fight began. These Gods did not know why they were called forward. They had already given all the information they had over to Lord Verius.

Still, they did not dare show an ounce of disrespect. Looking at the white armor Verius wore, there was a symbol of a crescent moon with a single star over it.

The Gods instantly bowed before Verius and one of them nervously spoke up.

“Lord Verius, commander of the crescent knights. Is…Is there something else you wish from us?”

Verius took a step forward before smiling at them cruelly. Before another word could be spoken, he swung his spear in a wide swathe in front of him. These Gods could not resist his power and in one motion they were all divided into two. Instantly after their flesh was split apart, their soul weapons tried to flee but with a second swing, these Divine Soul weapons were all destroyed as well.

Just like that the witnesses had been dealt with.

The guard and the other Gods who came with Lord Verius were dumbfounded but they did not ask or question it. Still, lord Verius spoke up and announced.

“These people dared trick us the Crescent Knights. They brought us here under false pretenses. Just now I looked into their souls and found that they were colluding with that man to try and bring us here and sacrifice us. They were not counting on this many of us showing up and completely underestimated our strength. When we did arrive though that man who fled was their leader. He saw how strong we were and ran away like a scattering skittering bug under the light of a torch. They meant to lead us here as a sacrifice of sorts but now with their leader gone, their plots are no more.”

Some found this hard to believe while others had not a doubt in their mind. Their leader said it so it must be true.

In the end, Lord Verius placed the destruction of the city and the death of everyone here solely on Kazuki’s shoulders.

“Now we don’t know who that man was but his energy is unique. You all sensed it before he fled right. With this, we’ll spread this information to every corner of the Realms. If anyone ever feels that unique energy and disaster strikes, it can only be he who’s responsible. Remember this day and never forget what that bastard did to the innocent lives of Satruss city.”

These soldiers roared in unison. Some had family in this city, others friends or acquaintances. Satrusss city was no more and with it was any instance that Kazuki was innocent.

As the soldiers were roaring in both rage and bitterness, Lord Verius smiled with a demonic grin. His eyes glowed with a faint golden light. Gripping his spear he thought.

(You fool. You thought simply crushing my Mind stone would end things. I have long since conquered mind-soul energy. Taking a new body with my powers alone is a simple feat. To think you would put up this much of a fight though, heh. I didn’t lose out too badly though. I wanted your body, your strength but this Verious is quite powerful as well. To think, he was hiding an artifact as well. My luck never ceases to amaze even me.)

Kazuki flew away faster than the speed of light and was already trillions of miles away. Only after he was well out of range of the once tall city Satruss, did he slow down and stop.

Only after he fled did he sense mind-soul energy moving and knew it was the shadow.

(Damn that bastard played me. He acted as if he had run but in actuality, he took that knight’s body.)

(True enough brat. At the same time, none of us could have foreseen that he did not even need a Mindstone to possess a body. The Mindstone only amplified his power and allowed him to take control over nearly everyone in the city. In the end, his comprehension and abilities are above our own when it comes to mind-soul energy. It took all of us to counter his mind-soul energy but I wonder how things would go if we had Oriing energy or if you were a God. Things would most certainly not play out the same.)

(Arc is right Kazuki. Although things did not go as initially planned in the end you are still among the living and since you destroyed the Mindstones back at the lake, along with the last of the others, I believe he won’t be able to take over more than one body. So at the very least one could say that’s a bright spot.)

(Brat don’t let it get to you. Today can be counted as a win of sorts. In this way, the shadow can not take over the Realms in his current state. What you did today, no what we did, with no one but us knowing it, we technically prevented the end of the Realms. You should feel proud.)

Kazuki couldn’t feel proud.

(We didn’t stop him, we simply delayed him for now. The Mindstones may be destroyed but they came from that sacred wall in that fallen temple. There could be more out there. If he was capable of controlling Millions with a single Mindstone, what happens if he finds a completely intact wall of them? Things are not finished between us. I know it and for sure that bitch knows it as well. For now, I have to walk away but I will return and when I do, I won’t stop until I completely destroy that Shadow.)

Kazuki once again activated his Gauntlet and flew off at high speed, leaving a stream of silver light in his wake.

(Kazuki where are we headed now? To the kids maybe?)

(Yes, I have to make sure they’re safe. After that, I’ll take them back to a Lower Realm and hide them away until things are safe. We’ll go and find some Origin energy and work on finding Arc’s missing piece.)

Arc who should be happy hearing this spoke up.

(I don’t think that’s such a good idea.)
