Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 64

While these hidden Gods thought they were undiscovered in actuality Kazuki knew exactly where they were the entire time. Cracking a smile he walked to a room at the end of the hall. The man wearing a cloak escorted him in before leaving without another word.

The room itself was simple. There was nothing inside of it besides a single black mirror and a chair. NO windows of any kind nor any other furniture. Even the Gods who were outside remained outside and from the inscriptions embedded in the walls of the room, Kauzki could tell no one could observe anything inside of it.

Kazuki didn’t quite know what to do from here but Codex had his back.

(Kazuki just take a seat in front of the mirror and then asks whatever question you want. If they have the information they’ll ask for the fee immediately. If not, the mirror will simply remain black.)

(Thanks.)

Taking a seat Kazuki asked his first question.

“Do you have any information on the location of any Artifacts?”

The mirror changed from black to silver and several options appeared on the mirror. Suddenly a voice came from within the mirror. It sounded rhythmic and soft.

“Yes. In the three Higher Realms there are 1370 known artifacts. Detailed information regarding them will cost you depending on what you wish to know.”

On the mirror, a list of every single Artifact known throughout the three Higher Realms was displayed. Next to each Artifact besides the name of the Artifact, there were several fees displayed next to them. These fees were required to learn anything about them.

Kazuki saw the list of artifacts and couldn’t help but think.

(How can there be so little? I’ve barely gone anywhere and have come across multiple Artifacts yet this mirror says there are barely a thousand. In all the Starpaths on all the worlds how can there be so few?)

(Kazuki is it really so strange when you think about it? An Artifact is a rarity beyond rarity. Where we come from I do not know but we are not something one can just pick up from the corner market along with some green veggies and a basket of eggs.)

(Yeah I get that but still, isn’t this number simply too low?)

Codex looked over the list and pointed out several missing potentials.

(Well it’s obvious this list is incomplete. Your right we are rare but there should definitely be much more but if you just look at the Realms you’ll easily understand why. These Realms are a place governed not by the pen or words but rather by the fist of the almighty ones. A place ruled and regulated by strength and domination. In such a place of constant warring, if you had an Artifact how many would you tell? How many would you let know of something that can give you the edge over others? The answer is of course Zero.)

(The book is correct Kazuki. We Artifacts have strange and mysterious powers from an outsider’s perspective. If wielded correctly, we can change the shape of the universe around us and bend reality. Those that possess Artifacts and know how to properly utilize them can gain a power untold. A being with that much power, a Supreme God…Now that is a power hard matched. Just look back at Adigus. He was incompetent in handling the Gauntlet yet he cornered you and several other Gods who were experts. Imagine if he actually knew how to manipulate the Gauntlet properly. Your story would have already ended during that final fight. Now which God would leak information on themselves and risk the possibility of losing their edge?)

Kazuki understood this. It made complete sense. The list was incomplete because it would be foolish for Gods or Supreme Gods to purposefully unveil their trump cards.

With this now known, Kazuki went ahead and paid the fee. Not for one but for all information on every single Artifact currently known through the three Higher Realms.

The information for a single artifact was in the billions and the further down the list one went, the more secretive and more expensive the information was. To learn of all of them, the cost was astronomical but to Kazuki, it was chump change.

He pressed his hand upon the mirror and poured in countless Divine crystals. The very next moment the voice spoke.

“Thank you for your purchase. Now processing your query.”

*DING!*

Kazuki was a little surprised by this ding. not that it was shocking or anything rather he just didn’t expect something so normal from a place like this in a Higher Realm. It was like the oven had just gone off telling him the cookies were done. It was just unexpected.

After the ding noise, the surface of the mirror became a liquid state and a single white crystal was pushed out from its center.

(Kazuki that recording crystal should have all the information regarding the Artifacts you requested.)

Kazuki picked up the crystal and sank some of his aura inside. The very next second there was a tug at his consciousness as all the information from within it came flooding into him. Instantly he absorbed all of the knowledge about the known Artifacts. What types there were what some did and did not do, the last known location or last known owner, and so on. There was even information about the Artifacts he would not have thought of or asked for.

Some of it was useless and some of it beneficial. Kazuki was pleasantly surprised.

A fraction of a second later the crystal shattered and was reduced to a fine powder.

(Don’t be alarmed Kazuki, these crystals are supposed to self-destruct. This way the information can only be looked at a single time.)

(Really, how do they deal with others sharing memories from their soul? Seems like a pretty flawed system if you ask me.)

Arc laughed.

(Heh, Brat it’s not as flawed as one would think, rather we few are the bizarre ones. To nearly everyone else a soul is a sacred private thing. Someinthg you would never allow others to peer into, as it would be far too easy to learn one’s strengths and weaknesses in that way. Others don’t share such intimate things. We on the other hand don’t care too much about that.)

(The way you say it Arc it sounds creepy and perverted.)

(Bah, how can you say speak such shit at this point. Facts are facts. We have seen your memories time and time again. At the same time, we have a different way of thinking compared to those born of flesh and bone. To us, looking into your mind is like looking into the mind of a pet of ours, hehe.)

(A pet you say. Last I checked you needed this so-called pet to help you find shit you lost. If anything your incompetence and haughty attitude makes you seem like a cat to me. In this situation, who would you say is the pet, and whos the one holding the leash, hehehe.)

Arc flared up with purple lightning while Codex laughed hard.

(Bwahahaha, that’s right, Arc you are just like a cat. Perfect absolutely perfect Kauzki, hahahahaha!)

Kazuki raised a brow.

(I don’t know why you think you can laugh Codex. If Arc is a cat with an attitude then you are like a chattering monkey. Always on our backs talking too much for your own good.)

This time it was Arc who broke out into laughter. At the same time, Sword began dancing within Gauntlet’s inner space in excitement as if it were asking to do me do me next! So Kazuki obliged.

(For you Sword, I’d say you’re like a loyal puppy.)

Sword stopped in place for a moment and Kazuki wondered if Sword was upset but the very next moment Sword started slashing and dancing with giddiness and absolute joy.

Sword loved being called a puppy and more than anything being called loyal. Sword danced and slashed wobbled and flexed as if it were made of rubber. Seeing this, the anger Arc and Codex felt shifted and they along with Kazuki couldn’t help but laugh out loud in this situation.

At the same time, Kazuki was cackling like a madman, his voice boomed and actually penetrated into the hallway. This caused the Gods hidden away in the building to all strain their necks as they turned them in the direction Kauzki was and wonder just what exactly Kazauki had looked up for him to lose it like this. Since they could not pierce through the room with their sense, they were left curious and bothered.

After a good while the three stopped laughing.

(With this information, Arc you, and the others will soon have your fill of Oriing energy.)

(Good. I’m looking forward to it. Enough about us, I’m sure there are a few other things you’re still interested in knowing. Hurry up so we can be on our way.)
