Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 65

After learning about the many different Artifacts around the three Higher Realms, Kazuki was also interested in the happenings around him. To his surprise, there was already news about the incident in Satruss city. From the reports, there was an unidentified male who slaughtered everyone in Satruss city.

[A male with a strange power killed everyone in Satruss city. A few of this man’s cohorts were discovered trying to infiltrate other cities and were forcefully brought back to the scene of the crime and sentenced to death by the commander of the Crescent Knights, Lord Verius. The madman not only murdered everyone in Satruss but he also destroyed the city itself. He is an unidentified God of unknown origin. He holds at least two artifacts in his possession. One a Gauntlet and the other…

Kazuki was surprised by this report. All the details, those that were real and those that were fake could not be distinguished by any but Kazuki himself and the shadow who was there from start to finish. Those that arrived late would have a natural bias but to the outside world they were in the right and he the wrong.

Besides painting him as a criminal, they also already spread details about the Gauntlet he kept and some of the energy he had used. Inside the recording crystal, there was a thread of energy that was similar to his own. Anyone else who received this information, the moment Kazuki used any magic, they would be able to recognize it right away as the madman.

(Great, I knew I should keep my magic use to a minimum to stay low but the shadow really exposed my power to the public. I’ll have to be twice as careful now.)

(Twice as careful. Such a specific number but you’re both right and wrong Kazuki brat. This is information that requires a cost to know. Therefore the general public will be unaware of what your power feels like. At the same time, this does not mean you should move too openly. These Crescent Knights in the report from the looks of it the one leading them, Verius, most likely this man has been taken over by the shadow. Because of this, he will surely have spread information amongst those under his thumb. Back in Satruss, I don’t know if those millions of soldiers were his full army or a fraction. Either way, his resources run deep. Caution is best in this scenario. Anyone could be an agent of his. Even if they aren’t under him directly, those in the know would surely wish to reveal you for their own self-gain.)

(Arc you say this Verius is being possessed by the shadow but how can you know that for sure? Kazuki took us away from Satruss in a split second, surely the shadow flew before even we did.)

(Book you just saw the report as I did. Did you really miss the details within or were you just not paying attention?)

Arc was acting smug but it wasn’t just Codex that was confused. Kazuki as well had his suspicion that Verius was the shadow but he had no actual proof.

(Arc stop acting high and mighty and just spill it. Why do you think Verius is the shadow? This report doesn’t say anything so out of line does it?)

(Brat here I was thinking you were actually smart. Come now, did you really miss the part where the report claimed you held at least two Artifacts in your possession? Tell me, the moment you fled, how many Artifcats did you use in your escape.)

Kazuki’s eyes went wide a sit hit him.

(Right! I only used the Gauntlet to get away. The only other time any Artifacts used any power was during the battle. Specifically when you took control of the city’s defenses. The shadow slipped up. Only he was aware that another Artifact was used. Verius who had just arrived would have absolutely no knowledge of this. Arc, you’re amazing!)

(Hmph don’t try and butter me up with things I already know. I’m just surprised you overlooked this detail. The shadow gave itself away in a single sentence. This is good for us. We now know that the shadow inhabits this Verius fellow. Well going off the history of the shadow, this commander Verius is already dead in both mind and soul. The report said he is the commander of the Crescent Knights whatever those are. This sounds to me like he is not the leader of the group but someone second or third in command. I could sense Verius’s power before we departed, he was quite powerful already. If the shadow has a next move it will either lead it to seek out more power or it will be coming after you.)

Kazuki thought for a moment.

(More than likely it will choose both options. Rather one doesn’t necessarily stand in his way of achieving the other so to kill two birds with one stone, getting rid of someone that could topple him whilst also gaining more power…It only makes sense.)

(Kazuki this could be a good thing for us. Not the part where the shadow is after you but from what we overheard coming into this information guild, it seems the Crescent Knights are already at war or at the precipice of war with another force. Maybe trying to take you will actually be a challenge and he will be forced to be weary of you attacking him at any given place or time. If he is to play the role of this Verius commander, it could mean his moves will be severely restricted.)

Kazuki could see this.

(With the shadow busy with a possible war, playing a fake part, and worried about me attacking him in his sleep, this could be the perfect opportunity. I could sue the moment to flee, or even hide in the darkness and wait for him to mess up. I could potentially kill him when he least expects it.)

(Maybe or maybe you’ll end up being surrounded by an entire army under is control once again. We were lucky I got control of the city’s defenses. Do you honestly believe we will be so lucky a second time? He already knows that card ad may even expect it. Would you risk it knowing he knows this move? What if he attacks you outside of a city, what if he cuts you off with another barrier so you can’t tear open Chaotic space? Every plot you put forth, he is most likely already considering it.)

(What are you saying Arc? Do you want me to just flee? The shadow may have been cut off from using Mindstones but we don’t know how far his power may advance. What if he finds another way to take control over millions again, what if it’s billions or an infinite amount? We have to kill him before he has all the Realms after us. What scenario would you rather play out? Being surrounded by millions of Gods or an unending army of them. Both I absolutely despise but in the end, the choice is obvious.)

Arc sparked up with purple lightning.

(Fool, you are looking at the short term. I never said he should not be killed but you are forgetting what awaits us. Taking him on now may seem less risky but trust me you don’t want to go back into a fight like that. He has seen what you hold and he managed to live. He will come back harder and stronger, meanwhile, what will we have? You have basically hit a dead end with your growth. yes, your soul and magic can still expand further but your strength, your physical body. It has nearly reached the absolute limit. The energy you devour from CHaotic space is giving you no more improvements. Without reaching Divine Enlightenment and achieving Godhood, you will not be able to take on the shadow and his forces. You will lose.)

Kazuki said nothing. He knew his body well. What Arc said was true for the most part but there was something Arc was overlooking.

(What you say makes sense but it isn’t 100% accurate. My power can grow with a simple method and with this method, I have confidence I can kill a God without relying on Chaotic energy.)

Kazuki was about to say what it was when Arc chimed in and cut him off.

(Let me guess, a Divine Soul weapon?)

Kazuki smiled.

(See you already know. I still have yet to create my own Soul weapon. A weapon made from my very flesh, the power it would contain…Just thought of it sends chills down my spine. What terrifying power could I bring forth from a weapon that holds the toughness of my body and uses not Divine energy alone but Chaotic energy? Come on Arc, you have to admit, that would be a true force in the universe. How many would be capable of contending with such a monstrous weapon?)

Arc sighed.

(True, your flesh is tougher than almost any known material. You are only a Demigod but with Chaotic energy, you can even kill a God. Without a doubt a true marvel. A weapon made from you, it could possibly shatter reality itself…Unfortunately, a Divine Soul weapon of such magnitude, it is something that will never exist.)
