Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 68

Kazuki was almost curious enough to ask about whatever incident this woman was referring to but he had more important business.

“I’m here to buy.”

The woman nodded.

“Yes sir and what are you interested in? We have plenty of beastmen, halfbreeds of part monster part humanoid. Insect folk and more. We are recently out of any form of draconic beings and all other rare races are reserved for other clients but if you need the basic plain human we have them in excess. What shall it be?”

“You said I can buy in bulk right?”

“Yes sir.”

“How many slaves do you currently have for sale at this time?”

“Please give me a moment sir.”

The woman found his question odd but since Kazuki was a potential customer, she quickly sank her power into a bracelet she wore. The crystal embedded in its center lit up and a display appeared in front of her. Scrolling through it she found the relevant information in a swift manner.

“As of today at this time we have just over 52,174 slaves in our holdings. This includes those already reserved for other clients.”

“Minus those reserved?”

The woman tapped the display and confirmed the number.

“Subtracting those already set aside, Sir you are looking at 49, 812 slaves that can be purchased at any time. We have a variety of stock. Is there something you’re looking for in particular?”

He was somewhat interested in these so-called rare slaves but again he had other things to do.

“No, nothing in particular. Instead, I wish to purchase everything I can get my hands on.”

“Yes, nothing in particular… Wait…What did you just say, sir?”

The woman looked at Kazuki with a dumbfounded expression. She thought she had misheard Kauzki but Kazuki couldn’t be any clearer.

“Your slaves…I will be buying all of them. I don’t care about price or their strength or power. I’m saying I am buying everything that isn’t already claimed by others. You can handle this for me can’t you?”

The woman almost jumped and she began to nod profusely.

“Absolutely sir but I…I have to get permission. Such an enormous deal must go through my branch manager first and foremost. Please wait right here. Er, no please come to the second floor. We have a nice waiting room already prepared for VIPS.”

The woman shouted at an old man with a hunched back to escort Kauzki to the waiting room before she ran off to locate her so-called branch manager.

The old man was only at the 4th stage and looked decrepit. The old man was also a slave. He wondered why a God would keep an old man like him around as a slave. The woman a moment ago had told Kazuki that they don’t even buy slaves around this stage because they were supposedly useless.

(Why keep someone at this level around? Why not upgrade their power and give them a longer lifespan? Would that not make having a slave more…worth it.)

(Brat why are you so nonchalant about slaves? I remember a time when you would cut down a person if you thought they were ill-intent. Involving yourself in the slave trade again, is this not one of the most immoral acts a person can do to another?)

(Yes…It is one of the most terrible acts one can commit I can answer that honestly. At the same time, these people are already slaves. With another owner, their lives are basically guaranteed to be horrendous. Harsh heavy labor, beatings, and torture, the horrors they would be subjected to are endless. With me though

Before Kazuki could finish his sentence Arc cut him off.

(With you what… their lives will be better? I know why you’re buying them. They will simply be fodder and meat shields for you. You will be facing an army when dealing with the shadow. With all these bodies on your side, you wish to rebalance the scales of war. Even if at the cost of sinking to something below human to do so.)

Kazuki did not deny it.

(You act like you care Arc but I know you. If it’s not yourself, or someone that will help you achieve your goals, they are less than dirt to you. So why spout this nonsense at me?)

(Is it nonsense or rather a simple observation?)

Kazuki wasn’t impressed with Arc’s so-called observation.

(Yes, these people will be sacrificed for me. They will most likely die so that I may live but at the same time, that is not a guarantee. More than that they will not be mistreated under me. Beyond that though, this life whether they survive it or not will not be their end. What they suffer now, they shall receive the greatest reward I can offer them when everything is over.)

(A reward…and what is it you think you can possibly offer them after sending them to the front lines to die?)

(New life.)

Arc paused for half a second before asking.

(New life…What are you talking about?)

(Those that I take in under me, If they die I will take their soul and store it away in a new tiny world. When everything is over I will take their souls and place them in new bodies if they so choose and settle them all across many Lower Realms where there is peace. Not only that, if they had someone they were close to that they wish to be revived, you will help me find their souls and we will collect them and restore their loved ones as well. If there are any who survive to the end with me…I shall grant them wealth beyond their imagination, give them enough power to hold onto it, and gift them their freedom back. Again, if they wish to have someone close to them revived and their souls are out there, you will help me. In this way, their servitude will be paid back in full and then some.)

(Hmph, you act as if I’ve already agreed to help you. What’s in it for me?)

(Arc…come now, let’s stop playing these pointless games. The more strength we have now, the better chances I survive long enough to find your missing piece.)

(I’m not talking about that. I’m saying you don’t have to do anything for these people afterward. They are slaves remember.)

Kazuki arrived at the VIP room and sat down. It was a little fancy for his taste but it wasn’t enough to bug him.

(Arc it doesn’t matter if they are slaves or not. Those that help me, even if they are forced to do so by my own hand, I will always repay. In the end, I wish there was such a deal for me. If someone offered me my freedom, ridiculous riches, and the chance to reunite with my loved ones who’ve passed and all I had to do was sacrifice my life and fight. Until I was ash and bones, I would gladly take it every single time.)

Arc agreed.

(Fair point but remember my powers are my own. If you act as if you own them…It makes me want to rip you limb from limb. Simply put, ask next time you little asshole.)

Kazuki smirked.

(Noted.)

A moment later a short man fatter than a boulder waddled into the room. The man was a Demigod like Kazuki but had a terrible appearance. Even though he was a Demigod and could manipulate his image, he looked like a pig walking on its hind legs. As soon as the man entered the room, Kauzki could read his soul and knew instantly why he looked like this.

Apparently, the God who owned this place had a weird and nasty habit and mistreated everyone in this place. It was a proclivity of theirs. No one was allowed to look better than the God who owned this place. Anyone that had looked better then them was instantly disfigured in one way or another.

“Sir forgive this appearance. I was in a rush when I heard someone wished to buy all of our slaves. Is this true?”

Kazuki raised a brow.

“Do you doubt me?”

The fat slob of a man quickly shook his pig-like head.

“No sir it’s not that! It’s just that you are a stranger to our establishment. If we had some sort of previous business relationship in the past, we would not question it. But sir, you must understand, at the end of the day this place is still a business and we can’t simply rely on the worlds of a stranger now can we?”

“So what is it you want exactly? Spit it out and stop wasting my time!”

The man wiped the sweat from his brow but remained professional even now.

“Sir I’ve calculated the cost. The amount you’re asking for…well please take a look at this number. If you are serious, I would need the full amount on the day of purchase. Holding off on selling our inventory on the word of a stranger. Well, you can see why that puts our business in a predicament.”

A small piece of paper floated into the air and hovered in front of Kazuki. Seeing the price, Kauzki waved his hand and Arc lit up. Suddenly a small hill of Divine crystal fell to the ground, pilling up halfway to the ceiling.

Kauzki cracked a wide grin.

“Tell me…after witnessing this are you still in a predicament?”
