Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 85

The chaotic tear in front of them all soon changed shape and formed into a long tunnel. The walls of which were coated in both golden and purple light.

(Brat, I can feel my missing piece. It’s inside of there.)

It wasn’t just Arc but rather everyone that could feel a strong mysterious force deep within this newly formed and strange portal. Greed struck a few of them and Carta couldn’t help but grow excited as she shouted.

“It’s in there!”

Her shout was silent though as the barrier they were in moments ago was no more. They were in the dead silence of space but they could all read her lips with ease. Because of this, even without true confirmation, the overwhelming thrill of a possible Realm changing treasure caused these people to move forward without hesitation.

Carta and her group were the first to dive directly into the strange portal. Dredinkar’s eyes widened and he slapped his forehead in frustration before he signaled to his warriors and they too flew directly into this portal.

Specxzu and his group quickly followed but Kauzki did not.

Nala stood next to him and looked into the portal with curiosity.

(Master, are we not going in as well?)

Kazuki ignored her for half a second.

(Arc what do you think, is this portal dangerous?)

(Of course, it’s dangerous my missing piece created it. There is no end to the danger. The walls of this tunnel are all stabilized rifts but I can sense them moving all over. If you are not careful and you touch a section of the wall, well you can kiss that part of your body goodbye. The golden power as well contains elements of light as well as something else I can’t quite wrap my mind around. Most likely it contains a soul attack within.)

(Arc, I’m not talking about that. Is it safe for me to enter it yes or no?)

(Did you not just listen to my words? Just don’t touch the wall. Wall bad, tunnel good, understand?)

Kazuki sighed inwardly.

(Nala, Fleck, follow my lead and whatever you do, never touch the walls inside the tunnel.)

Kazuki entered the tunnel and so to did Fleck and Nala. The timing couldn’t have been better as the portal where they entered suddenly closed behind them. Now there was no going back even if they wanted to.

The rays of light condensed from both elements of space and light flowed around them at an incredible speed. There was a sort of pushing force that moved them forward. Kazuki tried to test this pushing force by resisting it with a bit of his own power but to his horror, there was no resistance. The forceful push instantly seized the moment he tried to defy it and in return, the end of the tunnel behind him moved forward and chased after his back.

The tunnel was actually collapsing from behind as it tried to catch up to Kazuki. Kazuki’s eyes went wide and he no longer tried to stop the elements from pushing him forward. As soon as he did this, the collapsing came to a quick halt.

(Damn it Kauzki stop playing games you almost gave me a shock!)

Kauzki was slightly embarrassed.

(How was I supposed to know the tunnel would react in this way? It’s like it’s alive or self-aware.)

(Kazuki its power comes from my missing piece. Meaning, my missing piece is aware of everything you’re doing.)

(If that’s the case tell it to come forth and rejoin with you. Why play these stupid games in the first place?)

Arc went silent for a moment before becoming sullen.

(Somethings wrong. For some reason, my piece is not answering my call. There must be a reason. The sooner we get to it, the sooner we can fix the problem. So no more wasting time with these useless tests.)

Kazuki had an ominous feeling. His mind went through many scenarios as to why Arc’s missing piece would not respond. Most of them pointed toward awful ends.

Kazuki kept his thoughts to himself and wondered.

(Will I really have to destroy Arc’s missing piece.)

This was not something he had discussed with Arc or rather when he brought the subject up, Arc shot it down immediately. In the forefront of Kazuki’s mind, there was the awful what if. What if Arc’s missing piece had no reason to rejoin? After all, the two had been separated for eons. To develop your own identity for countless years, to be your own individual being all this time with your own thoughts and personality.

To be told one day you are no longer allowed freedom, your thoughts would disappear and you yourself would no longer exist because you were to be made to rejoin something you cannot even remember.

(If that were me, I most certainly would not go quietly into the night. I would fight with every fiber of my being to stay alive, to…exist. What will Arc’s missing piece do.)

This only accounted for the missing pieces’ own ideals but there was still another piece of the puzzle that had yet to arrive. The shadow. A being that could take control of Gods and possess them.

(No matter what, I can’t allow the shadow to take Arc’s missing piece.)

Kazuki squeezed his fist and he began to wonder if he could even destroy an Artifact.

—————————————————————————-

Fleck and Nala stuck close to Kazuki’s side as they flew or were rather pulled through it at blinding speed. Even though they had all entered a few seconds after everyone else, it was only moments before they were all caught up with one another.

Carta was highly disappointed by this. She had risked herself and took the opportunity to dive in first but it seemed her jumping the gun did not matter as they all were placed near one another by the power flowing through the tunnel.

“Damn, to think me going first would count for nothing. I ought to crush this stupid oversized tunnel.”

Just as she said that. Kazuki thought about warning her. Before he could, one of her subordinates unwisely took the initiative. Whether out of absolute loyalty or to try and impress. A man with green scale-like skin and a dragon head rushed forward.

“Let me handle it, Lady Carta.”

This annoyed Carta but she was already too late to stop the man. He rushed to the side and punched the side of the tunnel trying to destroy it with a single blow.

Those with dragon blood running through their veins are some of the strongest creatures to exist. Even without taking the blow himself, Kazuki could sense a mighty strength contained in this punch. The tunnels did not move. Instead, the spot where the man punched darkened in an instant. The golden rays of light flipped and became pitch black. The bright purple became dark and they could all feel that same foul energy coming from the Black gate. Except it was coming from inside the tunnel.

Suddenly the man screamed in agony and flew away from the side of the tunnel.

*AHHHHHHHHHHH!*

He gripped his wrist in pain. Everyone watched a horrific scene play out. Some watched with morbid curiosity and some watched with disgust. The tough scales on the man’s hand flaked off and melted with a high-pitched hissing noise. Dark energy smoked upward as his hand melted more and more.

Blood spurted outward and vaporized before it could fall to the so-called ground. The bones to all of his fingers were exposed almost immediately and they began to turn to a foul-smelling paste as they rotted away. Very quickly the bones were then reduced to nothingness as well. In a matter of a few seconds, the man’s hand was entirely gone.

The dark energy continued to spread and seemed as if it wouldn’t stop until there was nothing left of this dragon born.

Carta moved faster than lightning. A gauntlet appeared on her right fist. Her arm cocked back like a ballista as she tightened her abs and back. With a twist of her waist, she threw out a powerful punch. The pressure alone from this punch destroyed the man’s forearm causing it to explode on contact.

The man huffed and puffed as he finally felt some form of relief. The infected energy ate away at him no more.

“Lady Carta, I made a grave mistake please forgive me.”

Dredinkar looked at the man as if he were a moron before he roared at him.

“A GRAVE MISTAKE! YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT ANY OF THIS IS AND YOUR FIRST THOUGHT IS TO PUNCH IT! IS THE BLAKE CLAN A CLAN OF IDIOTS AND BRUTES!”

Carta’s anger boiled in her chest but she knew they were in the wrong. Gnashing her teeth she was still going to at the very least stand up for her clan but one mistake had already followed another and the consequences had just now begun to rear their ugly head.
