Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 90

Spacxzu laughed inwardly at the cheapness of these bastards before his ring lit up with a purple glow.

They all stood and waited for him to bring out his Vajra ship so they could fly to the suspicious black mountain but Specxzu seemed to be doing nothing. Carta huffed in exasperation.

“What are you waiting for Specxzu? We don’t have all day here.”

To her pestering, Specxzu wore a blank expression, rather one could not tell with his wasp-like features. He looked like he was just standing around.

Specxzu shook his hand as if it would help but still, nothing happened. He turned to Carta and the others with a question.

“Can any of you activate your storage items?”

The calmness in his voice mixed with the simple question caused a chill to run down their spines as they realized he couldn’t bring out his ship. Not just Carta and Dredinkar but everyone there began to try and activate their storage rings and other storage devices one by one but to their horror, nothing happened.

Kazuki had suspected something like this might be possible, seeing as how the energy in this place was off and the fact that the Arc’s missing pieces was in control of this place but he didn’t imagine it would be this powerful and this restrictive.

He too tried to activate his ring and felt several energies trying to block him. All of them he could counter with ease except one. It was the puppeteer and master of this place. This energy again was familiar yet unfamiliar. He could not tell exactly what type of energy it was but whatever it was it was quite powerful. Even he could not access his ring because of this power.

(Arc, this is your missing piece’s doing. I can’t get into my own ring. Is there anything you can do to block it or interfere with it in some way?)

Arc tried a few things without the others noticing before it came back with an answer.

(No, at least not alone. Attempting to sever the energy is costly but if we do it together we can overcome my missing piece. Anything on my own though is far too difficult. I didn’t think my missing piece would be at this level. Things may become complicated later.)

(Complicated how?)

(I don’t know yet but if things are already this troublesome, there’s no way it will be easy when the final stages come. It may really be a good idea to stick with these other Gods for now. At the very least, you can use them if things take a turn.)

Carta stomped her feet in anger.

“Damn damn damn! I can’t open my ring or my necklace. This place is screwing with the element of space too much.”

Dredinkar shook his head in disappointment.

“How can something have such control over the power of space that even us Gods can’t use our rings? With Divine energy scattered and sparse in this place and no access to our storage items and gravity being so extreme, it places us at a severe disadvantage. All travel will be much slower without a ship and our recovery in this place is lessened to a terrifying degree. We will have to conserve our energy for whatever we encounter or risk loss of life. Everyone be alert.”

Carta was now regretting her decision to fight Dredinkar earlier. She had already wasted some Divine energy and it was restoring frustratingly slowly. If she had to fight for real in this place it would be disastrous.

As they were all contemplating what to do the ground trembled and a loud roar echoed out in the distance.

*RAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!*

The sound was so powerful that a dense forest nearby shuddered and swayed so violently, it was as if it would uproot itself and flee at any moment in terror.

Carta shouted back at this roar.

“SILENCE!!!”

Unexpectedly the roar did go quiet and Carta nodded matter of factly.

“That’s what I thought.”

As soon as she said this as if to strike her with karma,t h ground began to tremble and quake as the sound of large footsteps began to pick up and head in their direction.

*RAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!*

This roar was several times louder and vibrated so hard and fast that it exploded in their ear drums. Blood flowed from everyone’s ears except Specxzu’s and Kazuki’s. Kazuki quickly released blood from his own eardrums faking an injury. Specxzu on the other hand was strong enough to withstand this sound attack with no damage. Most likely because he had no ears in the first place.

Near Carta and Drdinkar, the two Demigods they brought could not handle such a powerful soundwave attack and blood flowed from their eyes ears nose, and mouth. The two Demigods slumped over and hit the ground with a low thud. Both of them were dead before they ever hit the ground.

Carta grabbed her companion and held him in her arms. She could sense that every organ inside of him had been reduced to a nasty meat paste. Even the soul weapon her man clan member carried had shattered. She now realized once more she had made a graver mistake by provoking whatever this monster in the distance was.

Dredinkar as well looked at his companion with a saddened expression. He broke off all six of his companion’s hands and placed them in his pockets, shocking almost everyone who witnessed this act.

He stood up and glared at Carta and Carta felt his rage. She could not say anything or defend herself from his glare and just remained silent. Dredinkar then turned to Specxzu.

“We can’t stay here.”

Specxzu tilted his head slightly.

“Grey tree, are you really so afraid of one beast? I can crush if you can’t deal with it.”

Dredinkar shook his head.

“Am I afraid…no but a beast that can kill a Demigod with just a shout…Even we can do that but not in a place like this where we are so heavily restricted. Yet whatever that thing is, in this weird world, it can do this even within all of these limiting factors. Engaging this beast is not our number one priority nor is it worth it. Why waste energy that we do not have to spare?”

This time it was Kazuki who added.

“Dredinkar is right. Our competition will be here shortly. We need to move swiftly and avoid pointless fights and anything drawn out where we can.”

Specxzu couldn’t deny that.

“Well then, why are we still talking? Let’s move.”

Carta was saddened over her clan member but in the end, she could only leave him behind. She grit her teeth feeling a sense of shame. Standing up, she clenched her fist in anger and vowed.

(By the end of all this, I will kill that fucker.)

With no ship to fly and not wanting to waste more energy, they were forced to run across the ground. Even still, they were incredibly fast. Everywhere they passed a gale of wind was kicked up in their path. They left after images in their wake and to the world around them it was as if a herd was stampeding.

One would think the sound of something so large would intimidate the creatures in the vicinity but instead, Kazuki and their group’s every movement only seemed to attract the attention of the inhabitants of this world.

It did not take long for something to show up and attack them on sight. The very first thing was something they did not expect. A round ball of slimy flesh. It was a conglomerate of body parts. Legs, arms, stomachs, heads. You name it, it was a part of this creature. Some parts were from monsters, others from beasts and some even human. The ball of flesh was the size of a small hill and rolled along at a speed that made no sense.

Carta and her group were the first to try and fight it. She wished for a speck of redemption and to claim vengeance for her fallen comrade. She and her group launched a fury of physical attacks but this lump of morphed flesh took the beating with no damage. In return, this thing opened several mouths and spit out a foul-smelling acid.

The moment the acid hit the open air, the smell of shit and puss spread all around. Everyone could see that this fight would take longer if they just kept hitting it. Their soul weapons made an appearance and they tried to cut it but everything they cut regenerated. Stabbing it did nothing as well.

Everyone, not just Carta’s group began attacking it and they heard the unidentified beasts in the distance closing in on them. By the sounds of it, this mysterious creature would be upon them in a few minutes if they did not get out of this area as quickly as possible. In the end, they were forced to use magic attacks and finally, they reduced it to a puddle of liquid with fire and electricity.

As soon as they determined the nasty round creature was dead, they ran away as fast as possible.
