Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 96

Specxzu’s mandibles clicked in frustration and he said a single word.

“Please.”

With the go-ahead, Kazuki grabbed one of Specxzu’s arms and spun like a tornado on the spot. Using the centrifugal force, he released Specxzu at the perfect time sending him speeding after the snake monster.

Specxzu felt the G’s pull on his body as he was thrown forward at an increased velocity.

The snake could not see Specxzu due to its eyes being ruined by Kazuki and Fleck’s attacks but he could hear and smell the change in the air. The snake’s arms flicked out more and more webs and tried to pin Specxzu down but Kazuki was already on top of this or rather he already had Fleck on the job.

Fleck’s pulled his bowstring back. Attached to his arrows were more of the alchemical mixture Kazuki had prepared.

With a thunk of his bow, the arrows came raining down on every single one of these webs with precise accuracy.

Just before these webs hit Specxzu. Fleck’s arrows intercepted them and turned them into orange smoke and vapors.

A puff of this orange smoke appeared in front of SPecxzu and he broke through the other side and landed directly upon the snake’s large head.

His hand met the hilt of his sword and he gripped it with everything he had so as not to lose it again.

The snake felt a chill run down its spine as it knew what would come next.

Specxzu used his feet to gain leverage atop the snake’s head before pulling his blade with everything he had.

The snake knew that as soon as the blade was dislodged from its skull, Specxzu would unleash an onslaught. If this was earlier, it would be unafraid of Specxzu but now things were different.

Specxzu and everyone else here knew exactly where to poke and prod to get past his defenses. His eyes were already gone and he had a few gaping wounds on his head. His haw was fucked and he had used a large amount of his power from before. His mind was woozy and his body unsteady from Kazuki’s alchemical attack.

An up-close battle here and now would leave him severely at a disadvantage and would even allow the rest of his enemies to catch up.

As soon as Specxzu pulled at his blade, the snake monster did not resist in the slightest. Instead, he twisted his head and rotated it at a rapid rate. To everyone’s shock, his head was ripped away from his own body.

The moment this happened, Kazuki shouted at Specxzu.

“GET AWAY FROM HIM!!!!”

It was already too late. The snake’s torso expanded and bulged outward unnaturally. The very next instant.

*KA-BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!*

Whatever energy remained inside his body, the snake used it to detonate himself like a bomb. As for the snake’s head. after tearing itself away from its own body, it dove into the ground, and using its spinning force it drilled its way into the ground and disappeared.

The explosion was devastating and quite cruel. The snake had focused so it did not explode in every direction, rather it was perfectly aimed so that the majority of the explosive force directly impacted Specxzu.

The sky lit up with that same white energy the snake monster kept blasting from his mouth. Kazuki and everyone else were fine because they weren’t within range of this explosion but Specxzu took it head-on and up close. When the light faded from the sky, it was obvious this attack had been effective.

Specxzu’s entire body was black and his wings had completely vanished. He fell out of the sky like a stone and crashed into the ground with a low thud. His blackened body, just like everyone else who had been touched by the snake’s blast, was reduced to black powder.

That was all that was left, a pile of black powder and nothing more. Dredinkar sighed before he quickly went back to retrieve Carta’s unconscious body.

After a few moments, Dredinkar landed nearby Kazuki and the remaining Fleck and Nala. They all stood near a small pile of black powder that was once Specxzu. A few feet away was the hole the snake had drilled out and disappeared into.

Dredinkar saw Kazuki place an odd-looking slimy liquid near the entrance of the hole but did not feel like questioning it. He was in no mood. He had lost all of his companions in the very first encounter within the Black gate. He might have been happy that Carta and Specxzu lost dearly, especially Specxzu but he found no joy in this situation.

He was technically their leader. Even if none of this was his fault, he still felt he bore some of the blame. He did not like seeing so much death of people he felt were innocent. Even if he didn’t like them or particularly get along with them, it still was not a good sight to see so many go out the way they did.

“Medatte, so you were a master of alchemy as well. It seems you are filled with mysteries.”

Kazuki shrugged.

“The more one knows about the natural world, the more possibilities open before them. Not that it necessarily means one will achieve these possibilities but at the very least more doors are opened.”

“So you used your alchemy to affect his species? You mentioned snake and spider earlier.”

“Yes. I have knowledge of countless different animals and other creatures including flora and fauna. In this place where our powers are affected so heavily, we tend to rely on our bodies more. This encapsulates some of our defining features whether we like it or not. These features can include what we are made of in regard to our species. I simply created a concoction that heavily affects the senses of both spiders and snakes. With a few special hallucinogens, chemicals that block nerve receptors and poisons, it helped take away some of that things advantages.”

Dredinkar was amazed.

“To think a being that powerful could be affected by poisons and hallucinogens.”

“If it was just that it would have not done much but because this snake creature was obsessed with its looks I also gave it a psychological blow. The moment it tried to attack me, it was covered in the smelly orange rain I created. I created an ice mirror and bent the light around the snake creating some simple illusions so that when it saw its reflection, it got quite the shock. It looked absolutely ridiculous and smelled awful. With its mind already affected, the blow became that much greater. Its self-image was shattered at that moment.”

Dredinkar’s eyes widened in shock.

“That’s…crazy. Not only did you break its self-image but the very next moment you and Fleck destroyed its eyes. This means the last image it will have seen is the ugly reflection in the mirror. The damage you’ve done to that snake’s psyche…All I can say is that is quite terrifying. I would not want to be your enemy.”

Kazuki did not respond to that. Dredinkar was after the Artifact. That meant he was already set to be Kazuki’s enemy.

“Anyway, why do you still have her with you?”

Kazuki pointed at Carta with his chin.

Dredinkar sighed.

“I have seen what lies ahead for me here. I’ve already lost too much and we’ve barely just arrived. If I continue forward, only death awaits. As for Carta… I know her family. Though we are not close, her grandparents care for her greatly. I would surely be rewarded tremendously for her safe return. As she is, the only way she can leave this place alive is with help.”

Kazuki was a little taken aback. Dredinkar was declaring defeat.

He placed a hand over Carta’s head and sensed her soul. She had received a devastating blow. The snake’s corrosive webs had damaged her gauntlets to a grim degree. If she was by herself, there’s no way she would make it out of this place alive.

As Kazuki did this he felt Origin energy coming from the bracelet Carta wore on her wrist. Without hesitation, he snatched it off of her wrist. Dredinkar became alarmed and leaped backward with a shout.

“WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING!”

Kazuki shook his head.

“Clam yourself Dredinkar. I have no intention of harming Carta.”

Kazuki held up the bracelet with a smile.

“This bracelet…I will be taking it as compensation.”

Dredinkar had no clue what Kazuki was talking about.

“Compensation what compensation, you are merely robbing an unconscious girl. I thought you had morales but to think you were a

Before Dreidnkar finished his sentence Kauzki’s aura came flooding out with such pressure it forced Dredinkar down on one knee.

Dredinkar looked at Kauzki in shock.

“Watch what you are about to say to me. I am robbing no one.”

Kazuki had both Arc and Codex work together and overcome the strange space element in this place to open his storage ring. As soon as they did this, a large pile of Divine crystals came flooding out with a crescendo.

Dredinkar’s mouth nearly fell open and he was dumbfounded.
