Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 98

Dredinkar’s outburst only made Kazuki even more interested in that blank white card. Still, it was only a secondary matter. His first priority was Arc’s missing piece. Until it was obtained, nothing else was of concern. Kazuki chuckled before shrugging.

“Fine fine fine. I can see that card is special to you. I won’t ask for it anymore. As for dealing with the snake, I don’t think you need to worry. After all, it will come after me long before it comes for you.”

Dredinkar was still worried.

“How can you be so sure? I am its enemy just the same as you are. Not only that but I still have o protect Carta which makes me a much easier target. If you can take care of it I would greatly appreciate it. I cannot give you this card of mine but I will owe you greatly. How about this instead, come find me later and I will give you something that will not disappoint.”

Dredinkar bowed and tried to gain this favor but Kazuki was unconvinced.

“Forget it. I doubt there is anything you can offer. More than that, the snake really more than likely will leave you be. Think about it. You and Carta are not too difficult to deal with but it won’t know that I am not too far away from you. In this place where our senses are so heavily affected, it’s hard to say when or where someone will appear from. Besides he’s injured. I can’t say how long it will take the snake to recover in this place but surely it won’t be any time soon. When it comes down to it, the snake hates me the most. I destroyed its self-image. A being that is obsessed with its looks and I trampled it into the ground and have temporarily disfigured it. If it really seeks revenge it will be aimed at my neck…not yours.”

Kazuki’s voice began to grow louder as he added.

“Besides, if the Snake REALLY DOES SHOW UP I’LL KNOW RIGHT AWAY. I CAN TRACK ALL OF ITS MOVEMENTS.”

With his voice booming by the end of it all, the snake deep underground would hear all of it. Dredinkar picked up on this as well and was actually thankful. By doing this, Kazuki was taking the burden off of Dredinkar and placing it onto his shoulders.

This was obviously a bluff but the snake underground would not know this. It would have to be cautious just leaving this hole now. Taking revenge against someone that so harshly beat you, would be a fool’s errand to attack right away. No, this would require time to gather one’s thoughts, heal and recover, and planning.

Kazuki couldn’t be 100% certain the snake would react in this way but he was more than a little confident.

Dredinkar was grateful.

“Thank you sir Medatte. I won’t wait around any longer. You have places to be and I wish to leave this place as soon as possible. I’ll say my goodbyes here so please don’t think of me as rude.”

Kazuki didn’t really care but he was still curious about one thing.

“By the way…How exactly do you even plan on leaving this place? After all, the spot we entered vanished. The exit…I can’t even begin to guess where one might find it.”

Dredinkar pointed one of his six hands up.

“Straight up. True we entered this world through that strange tunnel but this world is directly inside the Black gate. Which means as long as I go up, eventually I will reach the edge of this world and the boundary between this world and the Black gate.”

Kazuki raised a brow.

“I know what your thinking Medatte. How will I deal with the foul dark energy that makes up the Black gate? I won’t need to deal with it. As soon as I get to the boundary of this world, I should no longer be affected by this world’s strange power. At that time I’ll open my ring and jump on my ship. With my ship’s speed and power, I should be able to escape the Black gates pull and my barrier should hold out long enough for me and Carta to get away.”

Kazuki was doubtful this would actually work.

(He’s assuming this world’s strange power only affects this world and this world alone. He’s not even considering if this power still holds sway at said boundary. I won’t interfere as this no longer concerns me.)

Kazuki nodded as he glanced once more at the blank card in Dredinkar’s hand.

“Safe travles Dredinkar.”

Dredinkar sensed something was odd about Kauzki’s farewell but he was in a rush to leave and had no reason to question it.

Dredinkar didn’t bother with anything else. With Carta in his arms, he jumped as high as he possibly could before activating his Divine energy and flying as fast as possible. Ascending above the clouds in a moment, he quickly disappeared out of sight.

“You two, it’s time we move.”

Nala and Fleck stood up and prepared to leave when Kazuki heard something and paused in his tracks.

*Bzzz*

The sound of something small and bussing sounded out nearby. Fleck as well hear dit and pulled his long bow in front of him.

“Master something is nearby!”

Kazuki blocked Fleck’s bow with a hand and lowered it.

“I know. I heard it as well.”

The sound came from the ground. Kazuki could sense the source and knew it held no ill intent. Though he was surprised by what it was.

Taking a few steps to the left of him, he stood over the pile of black powder. It was the remains of what used to be Specxzu. Kazuki leaned down before sticking his hand into this small pile of black powder.

Nala and Fleck called out almost simultaneously in horror.

“MASTER!”
“MASTER PLEASE NO!”

Kazuki ignored them before pulling something small from the black powder. Nala and Fleck felt a roller coaster of emotion seeing that Kauzki was fine. The two still did not know much about the snake monster’s special attack and had no clue if the leftover black powder contained any hidden dangers.

Seeing Kazuki reach in and pull something out, they felt relief that he was ok.

*Bzzz*

Once again they heard this buzzing sound. This time Nala heard it as well and came over to Kauzki’s side.

“Master, what is that?”

Kazuki opened his hand and revealed a tiny insect. The insect looked exactly like Specxzu except it was the size of a coin and its body was entirely green. It looked up at Kazuki with its many wasp eyes and clicked its tiny mandibles.

Nala found it to be absolutely adorable and began to pet it with one of her fingers when it pinched her with its mandibles.

Nala’s eyes went wide and she smiled.

“Hahahaha. Master this thing is so cute. Look at it trying to hug me.”

Nala found the tiny insect to be completely adorable.

In reality, it was trying to sever the offensive petting finger. Of course, this was an impossibility. Nala was a God a strong one at that. The tiny insect though, its power was barely at the 4th stage.

“It’s not trying to play with or hug you. it wants to kill you.”

Fleck chimed in and laughed at the misunderstanding. Nala brushed him off and continued to pet the insect.

Kazuki could tell right away that it was a miniature Specxzu and was somewhat surprised.

“This is Specxzu…I think.”

Fleck and Nala were both taken aback.

“Master, are you saying this little fiend is Specxzu? You mean he actually survived that snake monster’s special ability? I didn’t even dare to get close to that snake but even in the background, I could feel just how dangerous and deadly that white beam of his was. How could Specxzu survive that!?”

Kazuki peeled the miniature pinching Specxzu off of Nala’s finger and held it at eye level. At this range and with this little bug now no longer a God, Kazuki could easily read its soul and he quickly found out exactly what kind of technique Specxzu used to escape death. He read every memory and every experience in an instant. Not much was useful nor was the life of a loyal soldier wasp very unusual. Still, he added a little more knowledge to his own.

“It’s a special ability Gods of this species of his have. It’s a reincarnation type of ability. At the cost of most of his power and even a large portion of his soul, he can be reborn. It seems the moment he was about to die he pulled this move out of his ass. He concentrated all of his power and managed to disperse his soul in such a way that it avoided the snake’s attack entirely. Now, most of his memories and cultivation are gone. To give up so much just to live…There’s a bit of admiration in that”

The wasps clicked its mandibles in disbelief. All of its secrets had been spilled and there was nothing it could do.
