Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 99

Kazuki was highly interested in Specxzu’s reincarnation technique but it required a completely different body. Specifically speaking, he would need to modify his physique to fit a certain species of insect. So although he was interested in the reincarnation technique it was not something he would use. After all, his current body was unbelievably strong. He could even overwhelm many Gods in pure physical strength alone.

To trade what he currently has for something lesser, well the choice was obviously a no.

Disappointing as it was, Kazuki got over it rather quickly. His goal was still the same.

“Fleck, Nala lets go. We need to investigate that black mountain before others arrive.”

Fleck followed after Kazuki and Nala set the tiny Specxzu on the ground before turning to leave. Specxzu began clicking his mandibles in a panic before his wings unfurled and he flew in front of Kazuki.

He buzzed and flew around Kauzki’s head in an annoying fashion. Even without words, Kazuki could now read his soul and knew exactly what the insect wanted.

“You want me to restore your power… Why would I do that?”

Specxzu quickly flew back to the pile of black powder and dove into it. Half a second later he flew out of the pile with a ring in tow.

It was his storage ring. Kazuki had already seen Specxzu’s memories when he peered into his soul world so he knew the exact contents of the ring.

Kazuki thought the ring had been destroyed along with Specxzu’s original body but it had managed to survive the snake’s blast as well. Seeing this ring, Kazuki’s eyes lit up for in this ring was that same special nectar Specxzu had given them during their initial meeting. This nectar could help improve one’s soul and with it, their power would grow.

It hadn’t done much for Kauzki but still, there was an improvement to his soul even if the effects were small.

Inside the ring, Kauzki knew there was a small jar containing a few gallons worth of nectar.

The two were allies but if things continued they would have naturally become enemies and would fight for the Artifact. Now that Specxzu had lost nearly all of his power, he was no longer a threat. Restoring his power for this special nectar, was an easy decision. To keep him contained, Kazuki would simply not restore all of his power.

He snatched the ring out of the tiny wasp’s grasp and smiled.

“Deal.”

(With this source of special nectar, I may be able to figure out how to recreate it with alchemy. If I can do it, I might be able to find a way to increase the boundaries and limits of my soul by severalfold. The potential reward just to help Specxzu is well worth it in the long run.)

Kazuki extended a single finger and touched the small wasp’s head. With it his power connected to Specxzu’s soul world. An influx of powerful pure energy rushed into Specxzu. Under Kazuki’s supervision and guidance, he restored Sepcxzu’s power all the way up to the point Specxzu became a Demigod.

As this power flowed in, Specxzu’s body rapidly grew until he was once more his original size. Layer after layer of shell broke apart and fell away as a new even tougher exoskeleton grew and covered his body.

His color also changed darker and darker until he was as black as the night. As soon as he got to this point, Kazuki stopped the transfer of power and Specxzu grew no further. His mandibles clicked in confusion as he could now once again speak properly.

“Medatte…Why have you stopped? I’m only a Demigod currently. I need more power if I am to step into Godhood. Continue.”

Kazuki shook his head and placed Specxu’z ring on one of his empty fingers.

“No, I don’t think I will.”

Specxzu’s many eyes held confusion and then anger.

“We had a deal! Are you really so petty as to renege on what you have promised? Where is your honor!?”

Kazuki did not take any of this to heart and chuckled.

“If I make you a God, how does that benefit me in any way shape, or form? Instead, it only causes my burdens to increase as I’ll have to constantly look over my shoulder waiting for you to place a dagger in my back. As for going back on the deal…Since when did I do so? I said I would restore your powers and so it shall be done but it was you who failed to specify a time or place. Don’t express your anger at me when you are the one who messed up. As for when. so long as you keep running that mouth It may take a few eons to keep my word.”

Specxzu felt tricked but what could he say? He really did fail to say exactly when he wished to become a God. Kazuki laughed before patting Specxzu’s spiked shoulder.

“Just stay out of the way and don’t…bug me. So long as you do this…the moment we leave the Black gate I will instantly restore the rest of your power.”

Specxzu squeezed his fist shut tightly before he slowly opened it with a heavy sigh.

“I understand. Here I thought it was the grey tree Dredinkar who was the most cunning amongst us. Instead, it’s a man with too many mysteries surrounding him to count. Medatte, it seems it’s my loss. I won’t get in your way but please keep your word.”

Kazuki gave a nod.

“If I say I’ll do it you just have to wait and it will get done. Now, It’s time we leave.”

Kazuki said nothing else before he took off in the direction of the black mountain.

Fleck and Nala were right on his tail and Specxzu who was now only a Demigod followed at the back.

The four were moving at high speed and left after images in their wake. Even with the massive gravitational pull, they still managed to keep a good pace across this strange world. To both Fleck and Nala’s surprise, Specxzu was keeping up with them just fine. The gravitation on this world had actually grown as time passed and it was trillions of times stronger than most places in the three Higher Realms.

Specxzu who was only a Demigod should not be able to keep pace yet he seemed to be doing it easily. Fleck was curious and asked.

“How is it that you can keep up with us? Your power and this gravity, you should move at a snail’s pace if not become crushed paste under this pressure.”

“Your right, under normal circumstances my body would already have been crushed but this place is anything but normal. The gravitation changed the moment I was reborn. When I was small it was only a few thousand times stronger than normal but I noticed that as I grew stronger, the gravity increased exponentially as well.”

Felck and Nala were both surprised. Kazuki didn’t even look back as he spoke.

“This place is conscious or rather whatever controls this place is. The inside of the Black gate is taking our power into consideration when it restricts us it seems.”

Specxzu’s mandibles clicked as he asked.

“If it takes our power into consideration then how is it you are so fast? When Dredinkar and Carta began to have it out, you managed to move far faster than what a God should be able to. At that moment you stepped in between them even though you were the furthest away. Moving so fast that none of us could even see the edge of your clothes. It’s almost like this place isn’t restricting you like it is the rest of us Gods.”

Nala was pissed as Specxzu’s tone was accusatory.

“My master saves you and you speak to him like this. Such disrespect will not be tolerated. Do it again and I’ll squish you like the insect you are.”

Fleck laughed before waving at the open air.

“Now Nala why step on him when you can simply sway him away.”

Fleck’s expression changed and his voice turned cold as he continued.

“After all, those that talk out of their ass about master should not be stepped on as they will leave a stain and be a reminder. Best to smack them and send them flying away like an aimless meteor that will never be seen or heard from again.”

Specxzu said nothing. He knew going any further would only upset Nala and Fleck. Kazuki seemed fine to speak with but his servants had fangs when it came to those who spoke ill of their master.

(Stepping on toes here would only lead to my demise. I’ll keep silent for now. An opportunity will come. That or I will simply make an opportunity.)

Specxzu’s thoughts were his own but since he was still a Demigod and weaker than Kazuki, of course, Kazuki could still read his soul and knew every thought that passed through Specxzu’s insect mind.

He couldn’t help but smile knowing Specxzu was plotting.

(Just another fool who does not know a second chance when it is presented. Let me see what you can do insect.)
